In Alltrades Abbey. Lookin' for the Abbot now.

Trouble is, I'm playing Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey during the day and DQIX at night before I go to bed so I am making slooooow progress.

I absolutely think DQIX is one of the best DS games ever. A great RPG considering ALL portables and consoles. And, I am loving every last second I am playing it. It's just that Strange Journey is a fantastic, fantastic game too. If I stop playing it now to play DQ, I'll probably NEVER go back to it and that would be a CRIME! YES, it's that good!

I try to never play two RPG's at once, but these two are exceptional in EVERY sense of the word!

______________

Hey, Egg. Playing with a Thief in your party seems to yield a lot of those drops you are looking for using the Two Inch (?) skill (I think that's the name!)...

...and also devoting Skill Points to the Job Specific Skills makes the game easier in general, I believe. I am probably going to eat my words soon, but the Ragin' Contagion, for example, gave me no trouble at all! I think the secret to this game is all in the skill allocation!

I have put about 50 hours into Strange Journey! Excellent, excellent game!

I thought, at first, after playing Nocturne, the DS wouldn't be able to do the series/demons justice. I was totally wrong!

Of course they aren't beautifully cell-shaded like the PS2 game, but the sheer number of them, the fact that they still include the profile blurbs for each and ALLLLL the skills they have... Plus the Fusions... Plus the Special Fusions...

The game plays extremely well. It has an auto-map on the top-screen so you can avoid that typical "I am sooo lost" first-person RPG trap.

It has Nuetral, Chaotic and Lawful specific fights and story-line events...

Just like DQIX is a full-fledged entry in ITS series on a portable, so to is Strange Journey!

I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE 3DS VERSION IS GOING TO BE LIKE!

Hey guys, I have another question, sorry Sad.  Ok, I just got my first fygg.  It was the one that dealt with the tower of trades.  I got it but I am not sure what to do next?  Where do I need to go for the next one?  And do I HAVE to change my trade or whatever?  I don't really want to.

You do not have to change your job, but as time goes on there are benefits in doing so. You'll advance faster in level and accumulate skill points quicker. If you pick the right jobs you can get some of the weapon skills up very high very early in the game. For instance if you start the game as a Ministrel and work on your Fan skill, at some point you can switch to a Martial Artist and continue raising your fan skill with that job as well.  That's the kind of thinking you need to do to effectively switch classes.  But until you're past level 20 there's really no rush to do so.

One last note to changing jobs, be careful when you do it and never change more than 1 or 2 memebers' jobs at a time.  You need to have some stronger characters to help fight and protect the members with new jobs as they'll start at level 1 again.  Having 4 characters at level one is tough fighting and you won't be able to progress quickly enough to really benefit from switching.

As far as where to go next, head south. You'll find a small fishing village there.  You'll figure out to do once you get there.

Before I realised what you were talking about the first paragraph was beautiful.

I'm now what would probably be considered the 3rd Act of the game. I've retrieved all of the Fyggs and now the storyline has shifted to me looking for a very hard to reach city that another fallen Celestial once lived or still is living in. Not entirely sure that's actually what I'm doing, as the story segments for this have been told in bits and pieces and not everything is entirely clear yet.

As far as the characters goes, I have unlocked all of the hidden classes. I'm a little disappointed there's not a few more but I suppose 10 is enough.  I was still hoping for something more along the lines of DQ VII which had one of the greatest class systems of all time.  I am a little confused on what to do with 2 of my characters though, since I sort of developed them on a very linear path and it's a little hard to decide what to do with them next.

I. Love. This. Game.

It is not my favorite game in the series, but it's pretty damn high up on the list.

This is the first game in over a decade I've bought the strategy guide for...mainly because I don't want to miss a thing....or at least I will miss as little as possible(any multiplayer extras there may be I'm essentially boned).  I will say this in regards to changing classes at least early on: change a class, then run to Quarantomb and hunt down metal slimes.  It's a pretty good way to get that character back up with the rest of your group.

I saw the strategy guide for the game this weekend, and even though it shouldn't have it surprised me. That thing was huge. It weighed a ton and the text was small. It's almost so much that it's impossible to use as just a reference. For you to find anything in it, you almost have to actually use it only as a guide and follow it page for page while you play. Just looking for that one occasional tip just doesn't work due to its size.

As for my own progress I believe I'm at the final level of the game. There was a nice little swerve towards the end that really changes the entire story up so that was kind of cool.  Still not in a hurry to finish it up though.  My team is a little weak still so I'm going to spend some extra time grinding and see if I can't get a few more high end weapons from the alchemy pot.

Don't ask me why, but I've started a "Second Save File" for DQIX.

One game, I'll be playing as I've always played DQ: leveling my characters, focusing on getting the best weapons and armors, building a "staple" RPG team of Hero, Priest, Mage and Thief.

The OTHER one, I'll be playing as I've always WANTED to play: Hero is using Fans. Got a Warrior, Thief and Marital Artist with Claws. I'm planning on totally going nuts with vocation changes, exploring ones I normally would not. I'm going for brute force over strategy to see if it is feasible. I want to see the Coup de Graces of the other classes. I want to see what the other abilities are. I was starting off nervous as to how I would beat the Ragin' Contagion without Insulation, but already my Hero has a Fan Skill that blows Breath attacks BACK at the breather! All in all this should be fun!

In my main game I am just around the Heights of Loneliness. I just earned the Ranger Job and made my Thief one just to check it out...

Just curious... Can you get Monsters to join you? It seems by the description you can...!?

I know, I know I am hours and hours behind everyone else. Circumstances have prevented me from playing much, but I'm getting back into it slowly but surely...

PS! HEY GEMINI!

I haven't spent much time with the Ranger class. The job specific quests for them are some of the hardest ones I've come across.  From what I did play though they aren't able to recruit monsters, but they can control them somewhat in battle. They can calm them out of rages, make weaker ones leave the battle, stuff like that.

Yeah the guide is a beast, but really all I want it for(which some might say was a waste of money) is all the side stuff and all the alchemy recipes.  I refuse to so much as even glance at the plot line stuff as I don't want the story ruined.  I will say I have this sneaking suspicion that I know who the big bad guy is...can't wait to see if I am right!

Ventured into my first grotto as well and met some grotto boss named Equinox....it didn't go well.  At all.

@leo:  HI!!!

Equinox is a nasty bitch. The good news is he's actually quite easy compared to the later bosses you'll find in other grottos. They get much much worse. Wait till you fight Nemean. . .

Oh by the way, while it's important to check out DQVC every day, make sure you also stay at Erinn's Inn everyday too. A few days ago Princess Alena from DQIV was staying there and I got to meet her.  She even gave me a rare (but frankly worthless) piece of armor just for being her friend.  What a needy chick.

sorry i been zoning out and haven't been on  in a while
i haven't been progressing in the story been working on questing and grinding i worked a llot with a hunter you can't get monsters  but hunts have some important moves and  the hardest  class quests  the first one isn't hard as evil making the player enrage and then derage 20 enemies  sadly enraging enemies isn't easy and i can seem to only do it   on bosses easy
rangers are one of my fav classes i have got sofar
