Remember when we had to pay for the alternate costumes for SFIV which was already on the disc? You know how developers do this sometimes. Even first day DLC can be bad even though it's not on the disc.

But Square-Enix takes selling DLC already in the game to a whole new level of disgust!

Gyromancer came out today on XBL. And I was excited about it, but after seeing
what they're doing, I'm not very excited anymore.

Check this out:

Gyromancer is already 1200pts. Now there's already first day DLC for an
additional 240pts which is three more stages. But when you look at the
download size, it's like only 220.02KB, which means that we have to pay
to unlock content already in the game! The game is almost $20!

Seriously, this is disappointing even for retail games but for a downloadable game?!

What the hell, Square-Enix!!!

It is certainly a test case -- just as the CE version of Doom3 was (for $60 games).

Yeah, they will keep trying to see where the limit is. I think it will keep getting worse until customers refuse to buy the games.

^Which you know will never happen, we're junkies.

No, we have evolved. We are hobos now. That Punch-Out for €30,- looks mighty tasty right now!

All DLC that requires me to pay pisses me off. IMO, DLC should be a free extra for buying the game.

I didn't pay for it. I got it for free!

DLC should come only 6 months later that would give some assurance that it wasn't already prepped and left out of the disc release.

People will pay it.

SE has has a ton of success with it, and it won't be changing anytime soon.  It starting with My Life As A King.  The main game was $15, but if you wanted to unlock the extra quests, costume changes, extra character races, etc. you'd may the micro-transaction fees. If you bought them all the total price of the game went up to about $35 -$40.

Then they did it again with the Final Fantasy IV sequel though they were even nastier with that.  Main story was $8, but it wasn't even really the main story. It was the first half of the main story. You actually had to buy the final chapters. And there was still a bunch of middle/filler chapters.  All of that combined brought the game up to $35 or so.
