What I said originally still holds true about the Working Designs feel to the whole presentation. Very colorful, totally witty and humorous...
It IS very linear and there's a lot of old-school sensibility to it -- Go to the castle to save the princess, get sidetracked looking for a crystal, get sent to a different world, try to find your way home by going through another castle, get sidetracked by an evil syndicate, fight a boss to get the item to allow you to return home, return home only to find a larger conspiracy going on, princess decides to join the fight...
Throw it all together with different themes to each world...
[Japanesee World, Elf-World (Complete with Homosexual Desert Cats!), Wild West world where a downed StarCruiser starts the whole plot]
...mash it all up with giant combat mech robots [based on the best Anime Japan has to offer], a cast of characters that's instantly likable, a storyline that keeps you intrigued as much as it keeps you confused, but all the while entertained...
...and a battle system that combines Tales, Valkyrie Profile and Marvel vs. Capcom...
...This game is just a joy to play!
I really wish WDesigns hadn't closed down; we just DON'T get games like this anymore!
I am sooo attached to these characters already, I find myself wishing for this to become a franchise and to see them in more games... barely a dozen hours in!
