The direct is surpassing my expectations. There are multiple games shown that seem interesting so far.

I liked how most games had release dates and most out before July.

I missed the montage. Anything interesting?

+1

As someone who owns only a Switch2 as a current gen machine, that was a solid showing.  Orbital was cool, as was Tokyo scramble.  Graphics of current gen games looked as good as you could realistically expect them to.  Excited to play Indiana Jones.

Bit disappointed with how slow they are with the demo releases and Hollowknight update. Thought it would be active as soon as the direct ended but no.

Loving the 3rd party Bananza of games.

Thought it was an “ok” myself. Quite a few good games were shown:

  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  • Pragmata
  • Resident Evil Requiem
  • Adventures of Elliot
  • Granblue Fantasy Relink
  • Monster Hunter Stories 3
  • Indiana Jones and The Great Circle
  • Oblivion Remastered

Most of those I will play on another system though or have played before. I might get the Final Fantasy VII games on the Switch 2 as well though. The first party Directs are more for me but it’s still nice to see strong third party support for the Switch 2 regardless.

Was Fallout 4 anniversary a version of a ps3 game that was ported and released on ps4 originally? The graphics looked quite old. No DLSS, shimmering lines in the back, static faces.

Edit: wow it was a ps4 game. Looks gross on sw2

Oblivion looks dodgy too, the amount of noise in the background is unreal.

Also Switch 2 has a hair problem I'm getting tired of. Cant developers see how bad it looks? Cant they modify the hair models for a cleaner look?

I'm not even sure re9 has dlss enabled in that video, the jaggies when they zoomed close on objects was unreal.

Tried the Pragmata demo.

Looked okay graphically. Resolution seems lower but it kinda looks blurry on any version. The hair is the most obvious weird part, it moves weirdly and is quite stiff.

The hacking is so simple it doesnt really bother me. Otherwise feels like a bog standard shooter in an enclosed environment.

The motion controls when playing with split joycon have you using the left joycon. That's weird AF but I guess I could use the controller grip.

I also used the oled to boost the colours.

Also tried Monster Hunter Stories 3, much better.

Very beautiful art style and lighting. Lovely Japanese rpg anime feel. The framerate needs a slight polish, but its nothing egregious. Characters are endearing.

The turn based battles...hmm. doesnt seem bad but it will take a while to click with me.

Played the Pragmata demo on the PS5 and really enjoyed it. Really dig the gameplay with the hacking of enemies. Going to be a day one purchase for me.

Watching comparison videos for Pragmata and Indiana Jones is so weird.

You would expect switch 2 to look worse on most or all aspects but then you ser the side by sides and some aspects look better on Switch.

Pragmata on Series S is really bad, grainy and tons of jaggies. Its the RE engine so it's a bit similar to the results in that game. Switch 2 vs PS5, DLSS actually shows up more texture detail on switch 2.

But switch 2 lacks a depth of field effect and I guess sub surface scattering so it actually looks more detailed in some.instances. But the lighting is worse and the hair is a shit show.

Indiana Jones is weird. Compared to series X, DLSS actually makes background elements sharper and more detailed and even in some close ups the vegetation looks better on Switch 2. But series X has a slightly sharper look and has nice water effects the sw2 version lacks completely. Indy looks like a good port.

Wish I could get a re9 demo.

Indiana Jones is so good. I really enjoyed it and may have to get it for the Switch 2.

I really enjoyed it as well. Felt like the quintessential Indiana Jones game. Troy Baker did a great job impersonating Jones.

Spent most of the day playing demos.

I've come to the conclusion that Pragmata looks like a switch 1 game. The resolution is way too low and the demo makes it feel like a game with one trick and few ideas.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 demo however, has gone from zero interest into will probably buy someday. I liked it so much I redownloaded Stories 2 demo to give it a fair shot. It was not a good time, too child like.

Stories 3 reminded me of Zelda and Xenoblade, Skyrim even. It's aged everything up and gone wild with the budget. The combat is fun, even if I dont fully understand it and world traversal never gets old riding ma dragon. Also technically quite beautiful, though needs to smooth the framerate as its just shy of locked 30.

Then I went back to the Yakuza Kiwami 3 demo and this game is a definite buy. It's funny that the demo for 3 helped me with 1 and vice versa. Its ironed out some flaws that annoy me with 1. The fighting feels snappy and its probably the best looking game I've played. I was wandering about Tokyo in 1st person and it looked better than Cyberpunk. Smooth AF too.

The in game models look as good as the cutscenes too. Loved dressing up and the insane missions like avoiding knocking into sumo dudes holding ice creams.

I'm going to buy Kiwami 2 first and who knows, might even get Zero when its cheap.
