I'd say a console needs to sell 60 million units to be considered succesfull. But this being the Switch2, it'll need at least 100 million or people will say it was a dud when compared to the Switch.
I looked up lifetime console sales on Wikipedia and was surprised to see that the Quest 2 has sold about 20 million units.

Digital Foundry is facing a big backlash ATM online over their insistence on insisting Switch 2 is a PS4 like experience.

You can't change that opinion with technical puffery. I think DF takes what they think they know about the hardware and it frames their whole opinion of what a game will look like. I think I read somewhere that US Switch 2 preorders begin on May 9. Can anyone confirm? I can’t seem to find the article.
Spawnwave video says April 23rd Canada, can't tell if it's the same for USA.But likely the same. Now they also found info for April 30th for preorders.
Gamestop are getting 100 per store so I wouldn't worry.
