Been inching near the end of Metroid Prime. I was away at Atlanta which reduced my playtime but got some time in this evening.

I've tried playing through FF2 a couple times, and I just can't do it. I think it was actually the first fan translated game I ever played, and about halfway through. I just tapped out. A few years ago I tried again with the GBA Dawn of Souls version. I made it closer to the end that time, but I still had to give up.

I've looked at the pixel remaster a few times, but I just don't think it's ever going to happen.

It’s so much easier to play in the Pixel Remaster thanks to the modifiers you can use in it like a gold multiplier and getting various stat boosts after battles. Kind of just mindlessly hacking through it right now for the most part. Toggling random battles off when backtracking or just want to explore is a great feature. It has a nice pixel look to it and nice music. Story is quite dull so far though.

I spent my weekend with Heroes of might and Magic 3. Still love it, but I definitely forgot how difficult it was. At least when you not playing on the normal difficulty level. Unfortunately, it's been just long enough that I've forgotten a lot of my tricks on how to level up quickly.

Bloomberg is saying Sony is making a portable to play ps5 games but it won't be released for a few years.

Microsoft is also developing a handheld.

Anyone interested?

It's going to be hard for Nintendo once they lose their USP. Steamdeck sequel systems out too.

Also Inin games now has rights to Shenmue 3. Hopefully they'll port it to a platform I own and develop a sequel.

What was Shenmue 3 like?

I wouldn't be shocked to see a Sony release a handheld as a way to regain some presence in Japan. They've pretty much plateaued since the PS3, and Nintendo pretty much dominates the market. But if they're releasing a system just to play PS5 games (around the time a PS6 gets released), then they're going to run into the same problem they always have, which is lack of first party support.

I keep looking at the Steamdeck.  No sales for Black Friday. Sad

The limited white one looks super cool but $679 is way more than I'm willing to pay.

This weekend I played Civilization 6, Warcraft 1 and a little SimCity 3000.

The RE4 remake is pretty darn awesome. It's practically like RE4.5 since there is so much new stuff.

So... Shantae games...

I've flirted with the idea of getting one over the years but the price has never come down to hobo impulse buy territory.

Which ones have you tried? Would you recommend them?

There's a gameboy colour looking one i won't get. I'm looking at the gba looking one but the game has no map.

I want the HD ones but the price never drops.

I only have Shantae Half Genie Hero on Wii U. It's a high quality and fun game. It plays a bit like Wonderboy and Metroid.  I want to play more of it, but I can't go back to the U-pad anymore. I need to double dip and get it on Switch too.

That's one I wanted.

I own all the Mighty Switch force games. I find Wayforward and Shinen never really bring their game prices down enough.

And Nintendo, standard 33% discount.

I've played 2 or 3 of the Shante games and I have enjoyed them. But that said, they are completely unmemorable. I couldn't even tell you which ones I've played. They're good, but they're not good enough to play through a second time. So, I'd keep trying to hold off on a deeper sale.

After reading a wiki I realised the only Metal slug games I played was the OG and Metal Slug X.

Metal Slug 2 is doing some incredibly crowd pleasing stuff.

There's a level where you enter a Tomb and fight mummies. You've got round bellied enemies that rip apart and explode. You go into a sewer and Resident Evil style monsters drop from the ceiling.

There's this gatling gun mini boss who falls into the water and a giant Orca rises up and eats him.

There's an epic Hong Kong and New York level. The games art is amazing, I can't even think of a modern pixel art game on the same level. Your character literally flings away weapons when you run out of ammo.

I can see myself buying all of these games.

It's such a shame that the slowdown tars the experience.

Wayforward never reduce their games beyond a certain level, I'm been watching for years.

I have the Metal Slug collection for Wii. I believe it had every game in the series. It's a cool collection with one flaw: No Wii Pro controller support.

Yeah it's fantastic.

A new Sony portable... if it just plays PS5 games I don't really care to use it. Steam deck offers way more value. Also by the time that thing comes out a ps6 is about to hit.

You can use the classic controller?

I didn't even know that collection existed.
