Hmm, so Tunic has permanent stat boost upgrades? I was looking up combat tips because I hit a wall and couldn't proceed. No wonder.

Indiana Jones does, too, in the coolest ways. By reading books.

Did not have much time but played Slay the Spire, 198X (hit a wall with the Ninja Gaiden tribute level) and started Untitled Goose Game which I am playing with my daughter.

I'm going to persist with 198X, I get the feeling that the difficulty level combined with minmial checkpointing (and one hit kills) is only to artificially lengthen the game.

I've been eyeing Slay the Spire and 198X let me know how you fare.

Speaking of which, I've been quite reluctant to get into the deck building genre.

Have you guys tried them? Are they any good? I can't visually see what's so good about them.

Slay the Spire gets credit for inventing the "run-based" deck building genre and while there have been many that followed in it's wake the consensus is that no-one has done it better so that's where I'd start.

Don't be put off by the "deck building" component aif it is not somethign you've done before -- it all happens organically, it's not like it's a task in teh game where you haev to stop and figure out some deck construction category.

Having played Magic the Gathering for decades, I was undoubtedly introduced to most if not all of the concepts prior (admitting this so I don't come off like, "You don't have to know anything about Poker to play Balatro-ish".

I've been playing Tunic (PS5) this weekend. I really appreciate how the game doesn't start off with a bunch of story and tutorials. It starts off like the original Zelda, allowing you to figure things out yourself just by exploring.

Finding pages of the paper manual scattered around the world is a nice touch. The manual explains the controls but is onky partially translated from a different language, forcing the player to interpret what is being said. I like that a lot.

I also happen to be playing Tunic at the moment. I like the exploration and discovery, but I'm not really into the boss fights. It's good that there's an invincibility option available. I've used it for one section I didn't want to bother with.

Yeah, the diifficulty is more frustrating than fun for me. I'll have to try out that invincibility option when needed; I reduced the difficuilty and turned off the stamina depletion, which helps. I'm more into exploration and puzzles these days than fast-paced combat.

Couple of Switch 2 tidbits, the reddit user who has a final retail unit is going to reveal much more on Christmas day.

Reason seems to be more other sources will reveal info around then. So it will make it less obvious who he is around then.

Then multiple sources are saying that its been revealed early Jan.

One podcast leader with sources said something like "get ready to play modern AAA games on Nintendo in 2025.

Also on Resetera it was intimated by someone in the know that Witcher 4 and Okami sequel were coming to Switch 2.

So I started playing Borderlands2 with my eldest yesterday.  I played through the game years ago in online co-op with my gaming bud and now my son chose the same character (Zero, the sniper.  poor choice).  Within 15 minutes I was having flashbacks to my original playthrough, as Zero would always pick off the easy targets I needed to get my second wind.  blush  I also one time shouted my gaming bud's name instead of my son's when I was in a pickle.  I'm getting old, lol.

We also had to quit and restart the game once because of a glitch early on, where my snipin' son sniped all the baddies from a distance before the story elements could kick in, after which claptrap would remain cowering in a corner untill eternity as he was still expecting the baddies to come out and get him.  You'd think stuff like that would have been patched out by now.

Rain Rain rain, We've had 18 inches of rain in the last week. Water everywhere. I had to drive through 7 flooded roads yesterday to get home.

Good thing it stopped, nothing but sun now for the next week.

I've now finished it and I'll say it's a good idea to get all the pages of the instruction booklet. I just looked up how to find the last ones I needed.

I've been playing and rather enjoying Metroid Dread.

I love how fluid the movement and controls are. Graphics are great and it's clearly a well made game.

Only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the map which is the least clear metroid map I've ever seen.

The door icons aren't prominent enough, or coloured well enough. There's this yellow square to denote an area with a hidden power up but it just adds visual noise to everything.

The mini map is lodged in the top right corner of the tv which is something of a black spot visually for me to see.

The EMMIs are both great and annoying at the same time. Instant deaths are never a good mechanic.

Loved the first boss.

What's bugging me about Metroid Dread is the slide move.

It let's you slide through some gaps but only one way so you can't slide back. That traps you in some areas and I'm finding it difficult to find a way out.

You can come across the same sized gap you slid through but need to morph ball back through?

So on the map you see sliding bits which are actually morph ball bits. And unless you really zoom in and study the map in detail, you'll frequently  come up against impassable bits.
