I played a lot of Stunt Race FX and arcade Donkey Kong this weekend.

I played some SMWonder.  I'm enjoying it.  Level design is good and I'm amazed by the amound of new enemy designs.  I guess that's the strength of the Mario IP, basically anything goes as long as you toss in the occasional goomba and Koopa troopa.  Not a big fan of gating the differrent types of jump behind the badges.  The butt stomp attack is also too sensitive on joystick control.  I had to manually turn it off for one level as the game would often read a butt stomp while I was attempting a tricky part up in the clouds.  Overall pretty happy I bought the game.

The sky ships are a nice throwback as well, although the end of level 'bosses' are horrible.  They're no challenge at all and very anticlimatic.

Watched it a couple of times.

Interesting stuff, performance wasn't bad but it was quite a compromised test.

The actual switch 2 is supposed to have 8 to 12 gbs of RAM and better cpus and SSDs etc. Shame that 4k 60fps isn't possible but bits at the end seemed encouraging. They had Death Stranding in 4k and whilst the framerate could dip as low as 16 fps most of the time it was between 26-31 fps. With optimisations you could see some 4k 30fps games.

Graphics were great for the most part, especially for me who has never owned anything more powerful than Switch 1. I just hope Nintendo doesn't f*** things up with some weird design choice.

Richard's in-depth tech content is great, but I understand very little of it, so I usually just skip to his conclusion. LOL

It's a funny video in that whilst it's the best look at what's possible he caveats everything, because the specs are so different from what you'll eventually get.

either way it looks way better than switch. A Plagues tale and Death Stranding look great. I was even looking at Ps4 games like GOW and Uncharted 4. To me they still look amazing.

Would be cool if the switch 2 had that deep learning chip to make 4k easier.

One thing bothering me at the moment is the size of modern games. Do you really even own the games you buy? I mean if you have to then download massive updates and delete stuff to play different or new games? And what happens in the future if something happens to whatever company closes? You can't then redownload everything. I mean how many AAA games can you fit on a PS5?

switch 2 might be terrible if you can't use a cheaper external drive. A 1.5 terabyte micro sd came out recently. It's £150

I have about 1 Tb of space on Switch at the moment, but it's spread across 4 different micro sd cards and the games on Switch aren't nearly as huge as the file sizes on other systems.

I've recently gotten back into anime and I've started buying more blurays. There's anime I watched on Netflix years ago that just disappears from the service. Whereas I can still pull out my Attack on Titan blurays to watch with my nephew's.

My PS5 had less than 1TB storage, so I bought an additional 1TB internal SSD, which is plenty for now. Most of my PS5 games use between 50-90GB. Gran Turismo 7 may be over 100GB now with all the updates; not sure.

You can backup all PS5 and Xbox Series games to a USB HDD so you don't have to redownload them but they do need to be moved to the SSD to play them.

I spent about 4 hours this weekend looking at a variety of different games, researching them, and trying to decide what to buy. Then I didn't buy any at all.

When I do that, I buy the game, and then play an old game instead while it sits on my shelf sealed.

Yeah, pretty much the same thing with me.  Just a subconscious sign that I'm really not looking to play a game right now.

This weekend I finished up Super Mario Wonder, the best 2D mario in ages. I also continued my playthrough of Cocoon.

Me and you, we are the same.

So I'm trying to remember NSMBU cause I remember thinking that was the best 2D Mario since world and I don't remember enough to judge wonder and it accurately at the moment. Wonder does a lot of things extremely well but I wanted more out of skill timing based platforming challenges. If I have to compare to a modern platformer I think Rayman Legends is better.

Oh I just checked my old review for NSMBU and I lost my review so I just wrote a quick angry blurb and I didn't like it as much as I thought lol.

I didn't even play NSMBU due to NSMB fatigue.  I played NSLBU though as it was said to be a more challenging game.

The one defense I'll always make for NSMBWU is that the game was pretty incredible if you had someone to play with. Couch co-op mode was stupidly fun. Right after I got it, a friend of mine came over to play, and that completely changed the game. Not sure if that was Nintendo's point or if it was just a happy accident.

But other than playing with him, the game was pretty forgettable. I'm having trouble even remembering what power ups were available.

In all fairness, SMWonder's powerups are pretty meh.  the elefant looks cool, but it doesn't really do that much.  The drill is the other way around, it has cool gameplay implications, but boy does it look dull and generic.  The bubble flower is pretty cool, but doesn't really feel satisfying to use, there seem to be no levels that really benefit from it.

I replayed SMB 1 NES last night, all stages, no warps or shortcuts. I had more fun replaying it than I have with NSMBU or Wonder, sadly.

Not knocking those games but it may be time for me to focus more on the 80s and 90s classics rather than the modern stuff. I don't find a lot of modern games as satisfying anymore.

I was playing Sonic 1 on Sega Master System last week and was really enjoying it for its simplicity and challenge. It plays quite differently than the 16-bit Sonic games, which I find intriguing. I want to experience more old games that I missed out on originally and get better playing my old favorites.

Edit: I unlocked the more difficult second loop in SMB 1 and was playing that as well, which is a lot more challenging. I've never bothered with the second loop much before but will continue with it tonight. It's a lot of fun.

Yeah, not sure if I share the excitement that your exclamation mark implies.  A 3D animated Mario movie was a pretty safe bet, but Zelda seems like a much more difficult IP to bring to the silver screen, let alone as a live action movie.  It could be awesome and pretty dark, but Nintendo will probably want to keep the age rating as low as possible.

The exclamation was more my shock that they chose live action. I also would prefer CGI.

I'll take a Zelda movie anyway, CG would make for a better movie but live action is more interesting just cause it could be a total disaster or amazing. Casting alone is going to be fun, costumes, sets, I can't wait to see it all.

Did you guys see how Miyamoto announced it, he took over the Nintendo twitter and started with "this is Miyamoto," I like to think there is a Miyamoto emergency broadcast system at Nintendo where his face and voice come out of every screen and speaker at Nintendo and he declares "This is Miyamoto!"

"This is Miyamoto, I just farted and now I have a new game idea, using fart gas to propel through the air. I want a game demo by closing!"

"This is Miyamoto, please have a nice lunch break and go outside... where you will find me our new franchise! I created Zelda and Pikmin by exploring outside, why can't you do the same!"

If the live action Zelda is more like Lord of the rings, and less like Dungeons and Dragons, I will be very pleased. Too much comedy will not be a good thing in it, and that's my concern.

Yes, I'm for this. Link will definitely have partners, just hopefully not Tingle and Beedle.
