I haven't played any Mari Golf DLC myself, but I was under the impression that those were different cups with 18 holes each.  Golf is a game all about mastery and knowing the different courses.  The main draw is mastery of the gamer over the course.

I feel like Mario Kart is about mastery of the course too, it's only with online douches when it becomes a shelling spam fest.

Jeez, you may as well buy the games.  At least you would have the option to trad in for credit.

I agree, some courses can take ages to master, or in my case, never master.  There's an art to finding the quickest way around certain areas.  Regarding the shell fest, MK's greatest strength, item usage, can be it's greatest turn off at times.  I can't count how many times I've lost second/third place after someone fired a shell, then I get bombarded with with two or thee more shells.  I usually bed up at seventh or worse after that.  I guess lesson learned is ..never start strong?

I was hoping that PS Now would mostly be used for retro gaming, and that you'd just pay a subscription of sorts for access to multiple games.

Maybe I have a skewed view on the matter, as I've always been rather good at arcade racers.  I saw some tracks for the first time in online matches, and still managed to do rather well.

Agreed.  However, it seems that if you're in first you hardly get hit by anything.  I think this is mainly due to the fact that if you fire off a red shell, it won't track the player in front of you if you're really neck to neck, which results in the racers in 3rd, 4th and 5th all targetting the player in 2nd.

Exactly, if you are lucky to get in first, you can almost get away scot free.  It's second/third/ fourth who suffer from the shell barrage.

Ditto.

I go the whole race in 2, then get hit by one shell. Then I get hit or rammed over 4 to 5 more times on top of that and end up near the bottom. FFS and for some reason even the mushrooms don't get you back into contention anymore, only if you use one in conjunction with a short cut.

Also what I hate is if you are in first and there is a blue shell after you, say you get hit or slow before it comes, you can be in 3rd or 4th and the blue shell instead of carrying onto the no 1 in the race hits you in 4th. WTF?!

Yeah angry

PS Now prices suck ass. I thought it would be a flat monthy fee for everything.

The judge in the Philips-Nintendo lawsuit has the best of names:

"On 20th June 2014, following a trial heard before Mr Justice Birss, the UK Patents Court found that the Wii, Wii U and Wii Remote infringe two patents ('498 and '650) asserted against Nintendo by Philips Electronics," Nintendo explained. "The '498 and '650 patents were held to be invalid as originally granted, but Philips Electronics were permitted to make validating amendments during the course of the litigation.

Crytek on the brink:

*Information is from a half dozen independent sources, according to Yerli "dramatized rumors" from disgruntled ex-employers

*Salaries are paid late and leading employees are sending applications to other studios at home and abroad

*Warface doesn't work outside of Russia, other attempts at F2P were unsuccessful

*G-face was a flop

*The development of Ryse was catastrophic: mere months before release, the title was severely behind, only with additional manpower they were able to finish it

*Disagreements with MS over the ownership of Ryse's IP could be a red flag for other publishers

*Adoption of CryEngine not going as planned, word-of-mouth at GDC was negative

*Too many employees, burn-rate too high (3-5 M euro).

*"The vultures are already circling," says a leading representative for a major publisher.

*Big publishers are not interested in buying outright, would rather wait for bankruptcy, sign the talent and shop the IPs.

*Belarusian Free2Play giant Wargaming is listed as a possible buyer of Crytek

* Avni Yerli says a cash injection for the company is finally imminent. The contract has not been signed yet, but is as good as in the bag. "It's not all great. Our transition to Free2Play studio was not painless. But that is now behind us, "he concludes.

  • Crytek got financial problems
  • there are working over 800 employees
  • Microsoft and Crytek talked about Ryse 2, but yet it is not in development, because microsoft wants the trademark and crytek don't want to give it up
  • Reasons for the problems: Free-2-Play & Cryengine not work as well as expected, crysis 3 and ryse aren't big sellers etc.
  • they got saved for now but maybe not forever

So on the Phillips vs Wii remote issue

According to this post in the previous thread, the patent was filed in 2009 and issued in 2013. Did Nintendo not file their own patent before the release of the console, or was it never issued?

Apparently that one doesn't cover the UK *sigh*

A Crytek spokesperson issued Eurogamer the following statement:

"Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and in the GameStar article itself are rumors which Crytek deny.

"We continue to focus on the development and publishing of our upcoming titles Homefront: The Revolution, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, Arena of Fate, and Warface, as well as providing ongoing support for our CryEngine and its licensees.

"We have received a lot of positive feedback during and after E3 from both gaming press and gamers, and would like to thank our loyal employees, fans and business partners for their continuous support."

Before E3 one source told Eurogamer staff at Crytek's Sofia office in Bulgaria hadn't received salaries for the past two months.

Eurogamer has also received worrying reports coming out of Crytek UK, which is rumoured to have failed to pay employees on time. Management have been accused by some staff of a lack of transparency over these issues, and many are disgruntled, Eurogamer has heard.

But Crytek may have secured investment and thus its future - in the short term at least. The GameStar report mentions a potential buyout by World of Tanks maker Wargaming, but Eurogamer has heard investment from a Chinese firm may have been tabled.

Sony is usually right on the money when it comes to pricing their games. I have no idea what glue they are sniffing for these PSN Now prices.
