Dark Souls is the gift that keeps on giving. After fooling around in Anor Londo having beaten O&S, I went and cleared both Darkroot Garden and Basin last night. I should be going to New Londo now, but I still haven't gone to Painted World, the Hollow and Ash Lake, all of them optional areas with cool shit to get. I think I'm going to do those first.
I lost interest in Ring of Fire after UpinFlames came around, honestly. Nothing against him, but he just always kind of bothered me. Struck me as a Mr Knowitall type, made worse with a mod badge.
I've been messing around with the Gamecube quite a bit lately, and man....did it quickly remind me why I LOVED this awesome console.
Push the power button, and BOOM! Instant boot up. No bullshit. No adverts all over my fucking screen like the Xbox. No 10 million categories of useless shit like the Playstation. And no fucking retarded looking Mii's running around for no apparent reason like the Wii.
Just a big see through Cube floating around the center to ambient music with 4 basic menu's to choose from: Game, Memory Card, Options, and Calendar.
You know, just the shit you really need on a GAME console. Pop in a game and it magically just boots up! Almost fucking Nintendo 64 quick. Amazing. This is what I always loved about the Cube. It was powerful as fuck in a small shell, totally unique looking, completely user friendly and easy to plug and play. Cycling through the menu is lightning fast and games boot up like they are still on cartridges for cryin' out loud. Outside of the lack of online support, to me this console is what a console should be.
I decided to replay Eternal Darkness as a special Halloween time game to play, and started it up last night.
Now I probably haven't played this game since like 2003, so its been 10 years. I played through it 3 or 4 times to get all the endings, then never touched it again. What struck me last night, is how well the game still holds up a decade later.
Obviously the graphics are quite dated. Even at release, this game didn't have visuals that would blow you away. It looked GOOD, but never amazing. But the art design is such that you can appreciate it without the eye candy being at max levels. However, it terms of every other aspect of the game, from sound to controls to story and level design, this game is still a top level horror game to this day. It also runs in progressive scan and widescreen if you have Component cables, which is a must playing it on a modern HDTV.
I think the reason it holds up so well has a LOT to do with the fact that horror adventure games in this style have unfortunately become few and far between. When they do get made, they just don't have the same quality as these old classics. And seeing as Eternal Darkness was one of the best games of this type ever made, its really still at the top of its class. It has a level of maturity in the storytelling that was unlike anything ever seen up to that point...and really even to this day. And another thing that struck me is how well it controls....you can totally tell Nintendo was helping Silicon Knights out in this area because its got a smoothness to the controls that games of this type didn't have.
Having a good time replaying it...it always brings back so many memories of not just gaming, but of things you were doing in life at the time whenever you go back and take these trips down memory lane. Kind of makes me sad that they never made 2 or 3 sequels though. And now it seems Shadow Of The Eternals might not get made either. A damn shame.
I bought a broadband adaptor for my cube. But I think only PSO made use of it

You are quite ahead of me now. I haven't played since last weekend when I beat Sen's Fortress and tiptoed into Anor Londo. I don't feel strong enough for this area. And O&S proved a brick wall in all of my previous playthroughs so I need to be more careful about it this time. Maybe I should level up or something. Hmm

You guys make me want to play Dark Souls soon...fuck...too many games!
Edge, GTA V on PC in early 2014
I was going through gaming funk for weeks, or even months. Then I felt the urge go back to Dark Souls. The first "urge to play" anything in years.

What is your SL? I beat Anor Londo at around 50-ish. +10 uchigatana, grass crest shield +5 (stamina regen), whatever clothing (mixture of shadow set, and the weird red one), chaos pyro bombs. I've been at 40DEX for a while now since I reached the diminishing returns point and now I'm working on VIT and END.
O&S gave me a beating for a number of times. The final fight was me trying to work Smough from a distance with pyro bombs, finish him off whenever I could with the sword, then super Ornstein, which was more than a handful until I realized that I had to be at a distance when he makes the ass jump or the lightning ranged attacks, and lunge towards him when he did the regular big spear swings, that puts you beneath his swing reach and you get to sneak in a slash or two. then backflip a couple times to a safer distance, rinse and repeat. It was still a very close call, though.
Did you fight them by yourself, just with Astora or with human players as well?
I'm about 50ish SL. I'm about 30ish for both DEX and END and VIT I think is only 18 which I feel is too low. I made the Iato +10 instead of the uchi because I wasn't crazy about the R2 thrust move.
How do you get those chaos bombs? I'm doing the painting level right now.

Shia LaBeouf 'beaten up' in London
This time it was just me and my huge balls. Chaos pyromancy upgrade is given (sold) by queelag's sister lackey. DEX and VIT sound low, yeah. I was at about 40 DEX and 22 VIT or so, END has always been third place in the upgrade hierarchy. Since katanas scale with DEX, that's probably the reason you feel so fragile in Anor Londo, coupled with the lowish VIT.
So I'm trying to decide on my next game, did some price checking, why the fuck is Splinter Cell Blacklist £40 on Wii U and £25 everywhere else? Rayman Legends is £30 on Wii U £21 everywhere else. Here Arkam Origins U is £38 but £35 everywhere else.
Oh cool I got that when I joined her covenant. But it's only 4 fireballs and it takes up two slots. I only have a total three slots as I didn't upgrade attunement at all
