Gearbox is a SCUMBAG developer. Sega seems to have been screwed. Here is the article on the Aliens mess:
Its well worth a read, but the short version claimed in the post is that Gearbox kept delaying Aliens in favor of other projects (Borderlands, Duke, etc), and Sega finally cracked the whip. Gearbox, however, decided to outsource so it could keep focusing on breadwinners like Borderlands 2, which is where TimeGate, Demiurge, and Nerve entered the picture. Then things got may have got very, very messy. The Reddit post explains:
Somehow the schedules for [Aliens' codename] Pecan and Borderlands 2 managed to line up, and GBX realized that there was no **** way they could cert and ship two titles at the same time. Additionally, campaign (which was being developed by TimeGate) was extremely far behind, even as Pecans Beta deadline got closer and closer. In April or May (cant remember which), Pecan was supposed to hit beta, but GBX instead came to an agreement with SEGA that they would push the release date back one more time, buying GBX around 9 [month] extension.
About 5 of those 9 months went to shipping BL2. In that time, TimeGate managed to scrap together 85 percent of the campaign, but once Borderlands 2 shipped and GBX turned its attention to Pecan, it became pretty apparent that what had been made was in a pretty horrid state. Campaign didnt make much sense, the boss fights werent implemented, PS3 was way over memory, etcetcetc. GBX was pretty unhappy with TGs work, and some of Campaign maps were just completely redesigned from scratch. There were some last minute feature requests, most notably female marines, and the general consensus among GBX devs was that there was no way this game was going to be good by ship. There just wasnt enough time.
Unfortunately, Sega was allegedly ready to unchain its fiercest legal hedgehogs on Gearbox, so, the unverified claims say, the developer had no choice but to rush what it had through certification which brings us to where we are today.
Yeah, things are not looking bright for GBX right now.
I don't want the Gearbox thing to be true. I showed them a lot of love these past five months. It seems like both sides need to share the blame.
I couldn't get this website to load at all yesterday.
Another Nintendo Direct today? They couldn't possibly match the last one unless they show off what Retro has been doing the past 3 years as well as announce 5 more major exclusives.
I picked up Goldeneye on the 360 and played about halfway through the campaign. I have no idea what the fuck people are talking about saying this game is different and not as good as it was on Wii. Its the EXACT same game, just with modern production values applied on top. On 360 it basically looks and sounds like a shooter with Call of Duty level production. In other words, this is the best version of the game. Nice achievements too.
I'm hoping that at today's Nintendo Direct they announce yet another Nintendo freebie, this time for Wii U owners who really have nothing to do right now other than use it to watch NetFlix or TVii (which I've used all of once since the day it was released).
And if that shit is true about Gearbox then damn that's a pretty shitty thing to do. That's a real blow to all the goodwill they've built up over the past few years. That being said, if Sega wants to go the Publisher route they've got to learn to start cracking the whip sooner and keeping a closer eye on their developers. Go back and look at how Nintendo had Retro under a microscope when they were first doing Metroid Prime.
Got to say with Ubisoft's decision regarding Rayman and now seeing what Gearbox did to Sega, the past 7 days has really show just how ugly and nasty this industry is.
Mario and luigi 4!!! 3ds getting that love.
I am such a whore, I am sick of NSMB but I want the expansion. Well IF they go crazy with the level design and get it back to par.
Yeah in GS we have that huge Mario thread about too much mario and Nintendo goes out and does this. Lol. It is a bit much, they have so many other properties, spread the love.
Man Valve pisses me off. They make more money than ever and they downsize. Of course cause they don't give a shit about making games anymore. Instead they rather sit down and watch steam money pour in. Such wasted talent.
AGREED!
Steam is the reason we never got Episode 3. Why make great games when you're making money without even making games?
GAF and GS have exploded with anti Mario/ Nintendo franchises posts. I guess an almost all Mario direct has pissed people off. I have never seen it this bad before.
Gamespot has been anti Nintendo since the Gamecube days. But at least back then there were a bunch of smart Nintendo fans who posted there. They are all gone now so you're just left with haters and no balancing opinions.
It used to be myself, Minda Cubed, GG, Oilers99...hell even Shame-us Blackley was a big Nintendo guy at the time (and a cooler poster than he seems to be now). And a bunch of people I can't think of right now.
Yeah, the blind hatred for Nintendo has gotten way out of hand. Nintendo makes shit business decisions at times, but so do they all.
Bro you can't get angry, you are like the dhalia llama of videogame message boards. If fucking buddha came to life and decided to post on the internet im pretty sure he would ask you how its done.
Also new Mario Golf on the 3DS motherfuckers! I so want it. Mario sports games are some of the most fun you can have with a game.
Sadly im saving up nice bank for the next gen fall so I dont think I have time or money for a handheld in my life. Urrrrrggh.
I like when Archie gets angry...its an event. Like a volcano erupting. Take it when you can get it.
