Miyamoto's 60th

For the first time in years, three of Nintendo's most famous faces made an appearance together in New York City, at the newly renovated Nintendo World Store in support of "Super Mario Bros." 25th Anniversary. Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime, Shigeru Miyamoto and the man of the hour himself, Mario, all took the stage in front of a packed store to share in one of the most amazing gaming themed birthday cakes ever created.

And the fans came, in droves. Lined up down the block on 48th street, there were Mario's of all shapes and sizes, culling from every game in his career, as well as Luigis, Princesses, and even on guy dressed like Toad (from "SMB 2" no less). While the fan support was overwhelming, the highlight of the day was the introduction of the surprise guest, Mr. Miyamoto, as he came on stage to share cake with Reggie. There are few game characters whose birthday would warrant this kind of celebration, but it just goes to prove just how big of a celebrity Mario has become in the two and a half decades since "Super Mario Bros." was released.

That's really what separates New Super Mario Bros. U from its "New" predecessors: It adds something to the Mario formula. It's exciting and full of inventive ideas. Until now, the New Super Mario Bros. games have been a fun but mostly mindless reminder of how great Mario was back on the NES or SNES.

New Super Mario Bros. U actually feels like it's from that era. It's where the series would have gone next if the transition to 3D had never happened, and it feels great to be back on that track.

So I will be sitting here staring at my  3 Wii U  games  going wtf???  Walmart can ship me a game yesterday, but not the system?  People already have them. All these details about the next gen systems suddenly coming to light as the Wii U is launching is awesome. Should allow developers to really dig in and get about 80% performance out of my PC.

Man I can't wait until 9am sunday morning when I demand my Wii U at Gamestop.

Gonna be a fun week....brand new Nintendo console with modern technology behind it for the first time in 10 years. 4 killer games on day 1, plus a great pack in for free. A bunch of classic Wii 1 games I still have to play, PLUS more Halo 4. I almost feel like a kid again!

I'm annoyed that Europe gets it late only because I think people are going to nick the online user name I want. I don't want to have to add all sorts of numbers to my username.
