Incredibly the MGS footage isnt the most amazing game footage I saw this week. The Last of Us looks so damn good. No has nothing to do with the graphics, its that it looks like the gameplay is DIFFERENT from everything we have been playing. Instead of the game being about shooting guys, shooting seems realistic, the way enemies react is realistic. One shot in a leath area and they are dead. Enemies without a gun will hide and try to get the jump on you. Bullets are so rare that many times you will just have to use anything around you. The atmosphere created in that demo is so tense, this will be one scary game. I am very impressed.
How Virtua FIghter saved Playstation 1.

“Personally, I had no idea of the specifics concerning what PlayStation games could do,” Maruyama said. “I was giving presentations on it without knowing much about it.”
Around that time, Sega’s revolutionary arcade game Virtua Fighter became a huge hit in Japan, wowing arcade crowds with its early use of polygonal graphics to produce a game in the popular one-on-one fighting genre.
“Once Virtua Fighter was out, the direction of the PlayStation became instantly clear,” said Maruyama.
Had Virtua Fighter not been released, Sony might have saddled PlayStation without the capability to render high-end 3-D graphics, which would have put it well behind the technology curve compared to the Saturn and Nintendo 64.
“With great timing, Sega saved our hides,” Maruyama said.
See how important Sega was to this industry. No Sega no PS.
Have you guys heard of 4K TVs. Sony just announced their first one will be $25,000.
Its 4x the resolution of current HD, of course the picture is crazy. They say the PS4 will try to sell us on 4K games.
Here is the TV

It's the start of something. We'll see were it goes. HD was not accessible price wise for years, as you'll all recall.
I'm not sure this is the next big thing for TV's though. I think the whole smart TV model has not yet reached a catalytic point, whioci if done properly could be good enough to promote sales for the next 3-5 years, while these and other forms of tech get cheaper.

Xbox 360: 193k
THQ lives.
As for software, she said, “The high definition platforms posted only a slight 1 percent decline in dollar sales as compared to last August, pointing to a stabilization in that portion of the retail market for games content. One factor contributing to the softness we have seen in retail content sales so far in 2012 has been the decline in the sheer number of new titles. This, however, was not the case in August because there were more new titles when compared to last year; titles with sales that were significantly better than last year’s launches. So, what we’re seeing impact August results is the domino effect of the light release schedule from earlier in the year. That lack of new releases has had a significant impact on subsequent month’s sales.”
Xbox 360 sold 193,000 units in August, more units than any other current generation console, and held 48 percent share of current-generation console sales in the U.S. This marks the 18th consecutive month that Xbox 360 has held more than a 40 percent share of current-generation console sales in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, August 2012)
Nice to see Darksiders 2 #1 BUT its only 247k sold, that kind of sucks. NSMB2 less than that, only one week but still, it wont be anything like the first one. KH did well. CoD Blops outselling MW3 now every month. Black Ops 2 will be gigantic.
Oh and this gen is dead dead DEAD. Lets move on already.
Good for Treyarch. You know?
Sucks that Darksiders only sold 250K.
GAF says, "THQ said a Darksiders 3 would be likely if it sold 4-5 million."
Hey Vader, no official RE6 thread?
There is still time. I guess I will do it with the next demo.
Darksiders 2 should get a million easy worldwide, maybe 1.5 but didnt the first do that too? Arent they supposed to move forward.
Has any of the Polish leaked game made it on the to internet?
"Joystiq stated that Darksiders has sold over 1 million units worldwide."
I just pre-ordered the new Kindle Paperwhite ebook reader. Paperwhite, front-lit, and touchscreen. Hells fuckin' yeah!
The next generation of home videogame consoles begins in a couple months, and I'm far more excited by an improved e-book reader.
Yes, my sister has the 1st and 2nd generation Nook. She convinced me to get an ebook reader. I chose the 4th gen Kindle due to it being only $80 at the time (Oct 2011), and I already had an account with Amazon. Both are excellent ebook readers, though.
The Crysis franchise is 75 percent off this weekend on Steam. Crysis and its semi-sequel, Crysis Warhead, are only $5 apiece. Crysis 2 is currently $10, while all three games are also available as a bundle for $17.50.
The discounts will deactivate on Monday, September 10. The latest game in the series, Crysis 3, should be available in February 2013.
The latest.
Why would they care? They're not dogs.
