Badass.
Pretty cool stuff here, like at 5 minutes 50 seconds in with what's happening on the Upad. The game's more impressive than people gave it credit for imo, even with some of the lesser characters looking like crap up close.
Same vid as the one GG posted last on Saturday, not new.

while the pessimist fears this is true.

I approve of the blonde Chobot replacement.
I'm not entirely sure but in your Batman comparison, those flags that are shown on the Wii version may seem minor but it may indicate that it has the higher physics settings turned on, where on PC you get that sort of cloth material, or glass shattering, or volumetric fog that kinda moves around bodies within it in some areas, etc. Did the PS3 (or 360 too) version lack that sort of thing (beyond Batman's cape which moves nicely like that regardless of settings on PC that is)?
Edit: nope, just skimmed that eurogamer article, those banners don't appear on the PC version either, the whole scene has been edited in various ways, some better, some worse (overall better I'd say).

That does look pretty cool. I hadn't seen that video before. Platinum Games is making this?!
The AA is better, lighting and draw distance not as good IMO but according to Eurogamer it has better textures and stuff. But it is also outputting a 480p image to the pad screen on top, so imagine if Batman 360 had to do that too, what impact would that have on the main screen graphics? That's what people are either ignoring or not factoring in when they are bitching about how early Wii U games are looking. Batman is a B-team dev porting an old game whilst trying to output dual images, using 360 code most likely on unfinished middleware.
Darksiders and AC3 devs have both said the Wii U hardware is more capable but they do not feel the need to 'do more'.
ZombiU is done by devs whose last proper 3D looking game was Tintin. Nintendo meanwhile have only showed minor games not blockbuster AAA budget games and they have insisted on locking everything to 60 FPS which means they have stuck to 720p.
IMO the only real hope for a half decent look at what the system can do is Gearbox/Demiurges version of Wii U Aliens because they have been bigging it up and talking about horsepower and how it's better and Demiurge have a fairly good rep for making PC versions of high profile console games. They have already said it will be the best looking console version, because the hardware is better. So I really want to see some HQ video of that.
Forgetting all that, devs have had 6 years of 360 experience and about a year and a bit experience on unfinished Wii U devkits using unfinished middleware. I would cut them a little slack till round 2 of Wii U games at least.

Hmm ... nah, it's still too pricey.
I started playing Far Cry, the original Far Cry on the PC today. Figured it would be a nice change of pace next to Diablo 3. And plus, I've never played the PC Far Cry, only Insticts on the Xbox. So I've been meaning to play this for some time, and since Far Cry 3 pumped me up for the new game at E3 I figured this is as good a time as ever.
This game is quite a bit different from Insticts...Insticts was really a ground up FC for the Xbox...seems to be the same basic story and tropical setting, but the voice acting andthe way the story is told are completely different. So far Insticts seems to have the better STORY part (not that it was important) but FC on the PC is definitely the better game gameplay-wise. It feels like you have more freedom. This original Far Cry was the only one developed by Crytek, and as such, this game is basically an early version of Crysis...and for a 2004 game the fucking graphics still hold up really well...its quite beautiful. Looks better than most Wii games honestly.
Only a few hours into it but I'm having a lot of fun. Anybody who has access to a decent PC, I recommend checking it out if you're a FC fan. EDIT: How the fuck did I spell INSTINCTS wrong like 6 times?
Here's some pics of me playing...obviously settings are maxed out:
Hahah I played FC as well for a bit a couple days ago. I remember almost every place you showed up there.
Steel, new Testament July 31st. Gene Hoglan on drums.
"Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve, makes a random appearance in a Kickstarter video for a sword fighting game.
The video and the Kickstarter project comes from Neal Stephenson, a science fiction author who wants to make a realistic motion controlled sword fighting game.
In the video, Newell is seen smithing a crowbar, and Stephenson asks him, "Is that about ready?" to which Mr. Newell replies, "These things -- they take time." Apparently Newell and Stephenson are friends, and Valve's employees have attended sword training at Stephenson's Subutai Corporation. According to Newell, who spoke with Kotaku about his appearance, all the smithing equipment is his own and he has a forge in his garage.
The video is actually really funny throughout, so it's worth watching outside of Newell's appearance. I don't know how interested I am in playing a realistic sword fighting simulation personally, but Stephenson is passionate enough to make me interested. You can check out the Kickstarter project and its accompanying video here."
I'm in. Loved Formation and it was damn about time these fuckers got something new out.
Besides it's Gene fucking Hoglan.

Opinion: E3's constant stream of identikit brutality How one gaming journo was embarrassed by this industry for the first time
I heard many who cover the industry this year saying how they were embarrased by the brutality of the trailers. Wonder if it was just the heightened realism, or that maybe the industry feels looser about protraying violence now that they have that Supreme Court ruling in their back pocket to protect them?
^I think gaming is the same as its always been. The only difference this year was so many of the games seem to be following the same formulas. And most of the best games at the show were of the violent kind. Oh well, a quality game is a quality game to me.
Here's more Far Cry pics...2004 FTW:
Now its getting a little Wind Waker...
I figured out that for pics off steam you need to copy them directly from the HDD, well I figured that out awhile ago actually. If not, the pics tend to look washed out and make the games seem like they are not that high quality graphically. I remember posting a bunch of Deus Ex HR pics that way, and everyone said how they didn't look too hot. That's why. These pics look basically exactly like they should.
