“And as long as everyone was just porting the existing shooters over to console, they weren’t as fun as the PC ones. Of course, they were built for the PC.”

Inafune is discontent with Capcom, then leave, go away.

I want to make games that travel overseas, but Capcom hasn’t taken globalization seriously. I want to study how Westerners live, and make games that appeal to them.

Guess what you did make games that appeal to us when you made Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 4, Street Fighter 4, etc. Your recent epic faliures like Bionic Commando (which was good), Dark Void, wasted RE spinoff game, and of course Lost Planet 2 don't have the Capcom feel.  You think RE6 will sell as much as RE5 if its the same as RE5, nope. RE5 was riding the wave of love RE4 created, RE6 will get the backlash from RE5. Coping what western developers do won't fix that, be original, BE CAPCOM. I can't wait to see the disaster that will be DmC.

Now Inafune has a good point about this:

That’s the difference between Capcom and Nintendo. At Nintendo, 80 percent of the board is from development. At Capcom, it’s zero. All the business side cares about is protecting their own interests.”

Thats not right. Suits shouldn't be making all the gaming decisions. Nintendo does have it right. That said Infune's direction is the wrong one to take.

There was a documentary about Capcom on Japanese TV (they talk about it in detail in Warning a Huge Podcast 7).  Capcom management is HARD on the developers, bascailly if you don;t turn out commercial successes you are gone (as with Clover).  It didn't sound like a positive work environment.

Look at the director history of some of their biggest game, its random person after random person and they never seem to get work again. I looked at the director of RE3 and RECV, they did very random sporatic work after that. Some of the Onimusha directors vanished. They don't seem to have a system where devs slowly rise up the ranks to become directors or producers. I guess that is why Capcom has lost their most talented people, such a shame.

Oh well they are with Sega now. Sega will let them do anything, Sega loves losing money. Joking aside Platinum Games is going to be killer. Bayonetta is already a million seller, the sequel will be even better. Vanquish is getting a ton of buzz, a million sales might not be outside the realm of possibility. I know one of these guys is going to make something so weird that it bombs but let them be free, they are so talented that you don't want to lose them.
