After being delayed so long that many people (including myself) questioned whether it'd ever actually see the light of day, Disaster: Day of Crisis finally landed on Wii in both Japan and Europe this fall -- with no North American release date in sight. Personally, I had the sneaking suspicion that Nintendo of America might've been doing us a favor. But now that I've got a number of world-saving hours under my belt in the Japanese version, I can easily say we're missing out.
Set amidst a series of natural disasters that appear to be linked to a group of ex-Marine terrorists called STORM, this 3D action game places you in the shoes of Ray, a member of the Crisis Management Division and a former rescue worker. He alone has the skills (not to mention the hairdo) to get to the bottom of STORM's motives and find the source of the environmental havoc threatening to level the city. Sounds like a B-movie plot, right? Well, this is B-movie: The Game. And while I've seen no indications that Disaster: Day of Crisis takes itself any way other than seriously, the sheer preposterousness of what developer Monolith managed to smoosh together and call a plot had me grinning till my hands cramped.
It's inspiring that Disaster: Day of Crisis manages to fit so many ideas in one game, as there's really no way it should all work. You'll be running around managing your stamina, taking deep breaths to clear your lungs of smoke, shaking the Wii Remote to extinguish flames when you catch on fire, playing a wide variety of minigames or giving up valuable items to rescue people, shooting STORM operatives in first-person cover-based conflicts like a low-rent Time Crisis, yelling out to locate survivors, driving a car using the Wii-mote as a steering wheel, outrunning disasters in quick-time events -- and who knows what else I haven't seen yet. Now, none of those activities are executed well enough to actually make a good game on their own, but the game's greatest success is that you don't do any one thing long enough to tire of it.
Given that Disaster: Day of Crisis has already been localized for Europe (even the Japanese version's voiced entirely in English), it's a likely candidate for an eventual Stateside release -- that is, assuming it doesn't go the way of Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, which saw localization in Europe but not North America. Nintendo, please don?t deny us this adventure as well.
EDIT:
I just read that this game hasn't hit the top 50 in the UK or europe. So it could be pretty rare. May have to get it or never have the chance.
Hey Raven, I did some online research. Apparently 15-20% of Toshiba laptops suffer from overheating. The heatsinks are deficient, get clogged with dust and have no room to breath. It's reccomended that you buy a can of compressed air and spray it into the vents on a regular basis as a preventitive measure. Or to use a high powered vacuum hose on the vents weekly.
I posted it, but didn't have time to read it! I have to leave in 20 minutes too. My life is a giant turd at the moment. And I have a cold.
Updates done! I am going to read the Banjo Review now!
P.S. what happened to Edge? Is he still here?
I'll have to read it later. I just got Disaster. I couldn't resist. Now I have to see just how crap/awesome it is. Impressions in 3-4 hours. LOL

NeoGAF Disaster impressions:
Why he does open the door if I can do it?
In any case, it's a new entry which mix concepts to keep a fast paced game rolling on. It's beautiful (one of the best graphics of the Wii for me) and absolutely fun and entertaining. i absolutely recomend this game to everyone.
Must say but, that the story is like one bad movie made for tv, but is absolutely fun and entertaining.
8/10 for me.
GG we want your impressions! Give it to us!

Check out Mushroom Men on the Wii Punk. I looks more like Banjo-Kazooie than this game will ever be.
They should have made Blast Corps: Nuts and Bolts. That would at least make sense!
Going to the disaster thread now.
Iga, edge is back at GS.
Banjo reviews kind of eh but I assumed thats how it would be. Still a game I want to play.
Same here. Always been an appreciator of Rares games.
That's good to know, GG. I've been vacuuming my fans and vents monthly. So far, my Toshiba has been working flawlessly. I did buy a new cooler pad for it, and it stays very cool.
