Its all silly bullshit. The idea that hardware needs an image. Let the games and friendly pricing do the talking. No other form of entertainment needs its hardware to have some retarded image. Be it CD players, DVD players, even the PC (also a games machine). If fact I think if they're not careful, they could push people to the PC.....but maybe that's M$'s intention all along?

The current customers already own the console. I think that image is important when it comes to consumers, the cube had this image of being a purple lunchbox and that's despite it launching in black as well as purple.

I think the image is as stupid as anyone, but GG is completely right.  Image is huge.  The iPod has had plenty of competition, but do your really hear or see about anything of the sort?  Is it really that much better than anything else?

The price and games can help establish the image from the start, but once its set, you've got a long way to go to reestablish it.

Yep it's all about marketing for the most part.

Microsoft has to realize how they got that "hardcore image" in the first place.

Though in a way it IS like Edge says the line-up does the talking.

Know what the difference is between Pitfall: The Lost Expedition (Gamecube) and the brand new, just released "sequel" Pitfall: The Big Adventure (Wii) is?
