Nah, Act 2 and Act 4 are just as good or better than Act 1 from a gameplay standpoint, and Act 3 and 5 still have really great sections.  The story runs too long after you've beaten the game, but otherwise the game is fantastic.  If Act 1 blew you away you will love the rest of the game.

Act 4 alone is worth $60 to me.  It is my favorite of the bunch.

Its all downhill after act 4. And act 3 could have been so much better with some gameplay.

I didn't think it ever looked bad, only unique, and I was actually rather impressed by it.

Really? The first level suffered from horrible slowdown. Then the overworld falls to pieces, it's jaggy, laggy and bland. Some levels look cool but then just have repeated enviroments. I am impressed  by certain sections and that is why I wish that the game cut the fat and just concentrated on delivering unique individual level one after the other.

As I said there are several areas that impressed me, the schoolgirl boss fight, the whole subway level and the bossfight with the granny. I still haven't beaten that baseball bat boss yet, too many games.

Act 3 has plenty to do if you actually explore. Yes its optional, so is a ton of the game.  Why does everyone look at it like each act is its own game.  Act 5 is the end of the game, just cause its short doesn't mean its bad, its just the ending of a large game. Yes it gets bogged down in story, still two great boss fights including an amazing final battle.
