This weekend has been all about Dark Souls 3. Played through some of it when it first came out but never finished it. Would like to do so now.

I got it on sale for $2 a little over a week ago. Not sure if it's still going on, but I suspect it gets pretty cheap from time to time since the game is like 8 years old and was only $20 when it was new. If you can get it for around that price, I would just snatch it up. It's a really nice hybrid of Dark Souls and castlevania. And there's enough play styles, that I know at some point. I'm going to revisit it and maybe try out one of the caster classes or one of the agility ones. Something other than the, "swing a giant fucking sword and forget about the concept of finesse."

Last night I booted up Animal Crossing Switch and played for a bit. I haven't really given this game a serious go since I bought it; only for a couple hours or so. I've decided I'm going to play it everyday during my lunch break for a couple weeks to see if I can get into it proper. Not too keen on the flimsy tools that break so fast, though. I'm two donations away from getting a museum, so that cool.

Wild World is my favorite in the series. If I can't get into New Horizons, I may start a new town in it instead.

Bugs loves the Animal Crossing series. I know he bought a Switch with an AC download and I was kind of hoping it would bring him back to this site.

Stick with it, it's the best one in the series by far. You do eventually get to craft hardy tools. Try decorating the island.

I was going through some rabbit hole on Reddit, and I discovered some people talking about a game called .45 PARABELLUM BLOODHOUND. The story behind it was some guys were tired of waiting for S-E to make a new sequel to Parasite Eve, and decided to make their own. Apparently they just released their launch trailer for it. I got excited right up until I saw it.

I'm not going to put it in a viewer, because I'm worried it might assault your eyeballs. The developers decided to go with an actual PlayStation 1 3-D game aesthetic. I'm not sure if this is a genuine design choice, or just what the developers had the budget and skill level for. But either way, it just looks painful to play.

My brain has become screwy from too much Snowrunner.

So I tried some demos to break the addiction.

There's Kunai on the eshop, its this cool game where you play as a robot Ninja. You have a Kunai in each hand so you can grapple all over the place and Katana slice fools up.

The music is really cool synthetic chip tunes and there's lots of character text and a cool world to explore.

Controls are really responsive.

Also there's this demo for Trinity Fusion, it's a roguelike but it's really high quality. I expected a blurfest for a 3rd party 2.5d platformer on Switch, buts Prince of Persia/Metroid Dread quality Visuals.

Tons of voice acting, an interesting world to explore. It's Cyberpunk style, reminds me of Dex which is a good thing. Got my ass handed to me a few times but it's a Rogue like.

BTW, has no one tried Dex yet? It's like 1 dollar for a 2D Deus Ex.

I was.
I sold the GC one in anticipation of getting it. But it's so burned into my memory that I don't feel like I need to experience it again anytime soon.

Even though it's been like 20 years.

Given what other things have been given the BREAKING NEWS treatment in the last two weeks I got a laugh from this BREAKING NEWS treatment on the Washignton Post. With all respect to whoever this dude was, "who gives a fuck, who gives a shit?"

STOP THE PRESSES! A dude who made an irrelevant magazine slightly more appealing to literary elites died at an age most of us could only aspire to reach.

About Harper’s Magazine

Harper’s Magazine, the oldest general-interest monthly in America, explores the issues that drive our national conversation, through long-form narrative journalism and essays, and such celebrated features as the iconic Harper’s Index. With its emphasis on fine writing and original thought Harper’s provides readers with a unique perspective on politics, society, the environment, and culture. The essays, fiction, and reporting in the magazine’s pages come from promising new voices, as well as some of the most distinguished names in American letters, among them Annie Dillard, Barbara Ehrenreich, Jonathan Franzen, Mary Gaitskill, David Foster Wallace, and Tom Wolfe.

I have not, but I've heard two of the hosts on Player One Podcast talk about how easy it is. They are based in the US (the podcast).

It's so good, you start with an A TEAM parody. Then you're having this interrogation with this army guy and you're recounting what went down.

So your character describes what happens then you land in the scene and have to recreate it.

You start in this cell, you're told you wrote a note on some toilet paper to escape. Only there's no toilet paper on show. So you start punching stuff to unveil objects to collect and use. So I punched the toilet, which crumbled and a toilet roll popped out. I then re-enact the scene.

Then back in the interrogation room the interrogater asks me "Did you have to destroy the toilet, couldn't you have grabbed the toilet paper like a normal person?"

There's full voice acting btw

So am I the only one here to get the Nintendo World Championship game? Well don't be like me lol. It's no NES remix, it's just parts of the game, usually very simple goals and you have to complete it in a certain time for a good ranking. If you don't care for the ranking there is no game. It's only like 12 games, should be more, 150 challenges which is a lot but still some are pathetic like get the sword in Zelda or get the first mushroom in SMB. They do get longer and better as you get to later challenges like full stage speed runs but it is all speed runs. It is neat to learn new strategies on these old games so I am having fun playing it but man this is a lacking game.

The problem is the world championship mode, you'd think we would get leaderboards, a way to see if you should get better times. Nope, how it works is every week there are five challenges and you just submit your best time, no seeing what anyone else is doing. Then the time ends and the rankings come out and you get your place overall and in your birth year rank, you see your post and ten spots under yours on a list, that is it. You can't see if the top 10, you can't see if your time is one of 10000 of the same time or not. Thankfully you can watch a replay of the first place guy, that's all you see. How they messed this is up is wild. Also the challenges are just taken from the mode where you unlock all of them but you can't use the times you got there, just seems redundant.

This needs way more modes. It has some survival mode which is you do three challenges against 8 other ghost times from other players and each round you lose players until the end. This would be better actually live with other players or much more like a battle royal. Better challenges and more games are a must, I hope we get free updates.

Game Under Podcast Ep. 155

"The State of VR:"

I bought an $8 top strap for my PSVR2 this week. Much improved stability and comfort. I will be using my VR2 on PC too.

"What ever happened to car combat games?"

People stopped buying them, sadly. Same with arcade racers. Bring back Ridge Racer, Namco! At least release a collection of them. I miss the Rush games too.

I never got into the arena car combat games. I'd love a new Wipeout. Full Auto demo was cool on X360. I'd forgotten all about that game. Don't recall ever seeing it at retail.
