Most developers should really stop trying to set the standard for production values with every game they release. For smaller publishers and developers, it just doesn't make sense that they think they need to create the next Crysis if you will, with every game they make. If that's what's going to cause your company to go under if a game doesn't sell 10 million copies, then why not cut back on the tech r&d?

Like the new Darksiders, for example. If Darksiders 3 ran on the DS2 engine I would not give a shit as long as the game is great. There's no need to try and compete with Final Fantasy 15 or Witcher 3 in the graphics tech arena and potentially kill your company. Give me an incredible game with modest production and I'll be happy. Then, maybe only selling 2 million copies would be fine...as opposed to having to sell 8 million or it's not even going to recoup dev costs. Same thing for Resident Evil.....I don't care if the next 3 games used the RE5 engine. As long as the games are great, I'd be buying them day one. If your company can't afford to set the bleeding edge of production values, don't even try.

Don't know if it's relevant to the discussion at all ... personally I am hugely disappointed and pissed off with 4 out of 5 new games for the 3DS completely ignoring the 3D capabilities of the system and being just 2D games looking not really much better than DS games.

While I don't really care for cutting edge graphics (to me anything of SNES quality graphics or better can still look good enough for me to play today) I find it deeply insulting that they choose to ignore the hardware's most unique feature and something which for me adds a huge amount to the overall enjoyment of the game (even if not applied to the gameplay).  Don't care if it cuts costs or development time.  This is most likely the first and last console with this feature so I want to make the most of it ...  Implement the fuckin 3D ... pretty please.

This thing blows away the Snes Classic. Granted it's twice the price, but for what it does that's a great deal. 100% backwards compatible, wireless, 1080p...and you can even just store roms on an sd card and play them from there.
