People bought the PS3 and 360, not the case with Wii U. Why should have they made effort to make ports for Wii U, look at the sales, its utterly pointless. And I dont think a ton of third party support of games that are on the other systems would have mattered cause most would still buy those games on other systems.
It has nothing to do with confidence it has to do with sales and money. Wii U has none therefore it wont have support, which is understandable.
I am still waiting for the Order to show why its special.
So Bioshock Burial at Sea episode 2 has you play as Elizabeth, interesting. Hopefully its better than the first episode.
Your posts have no context, that's the problem, you sling out one liners like a GAF soundbite machine. For the first 5 months Wii U had the same install base as PS3 and 360. Wii U had the same launch sales as XB1 and the same year one sales as 3DS. And currently its install base is bigger than XB1 and PS4, though that will quickly change. Games were not in development for it even back when it was selling well near launch, games take well over a year to make, so the decision to not support the system came months before the Wii U even launched.
So this sales argument was a complete fallacy for the first few months of sale. I'm not talking about reasoning for supporting it now, but saying it should have received steady support from launch to now. And if that happened it's likely that the sales would have been better overall for hardware and software. Wii was the clear market leader so the successor should have received ample support, it didn't - that's about confidence. It's the whole chicken and egg situation all over again, self fufilling prophecy much? Wii U needs to sell more to get third party support but how is it suppossed to sell more with no new games?
Nintendo has to somehow support the system all by itself to sell it, to prove it? While other platforms get automatic support? Day one from everyone? That's about confidence.
Gaming exists as an eco system with a certain level of co-dependancy. Sometimes you act like you don't even know what blacklisting does to a company or the effects of it - when you obviously do. Imagine if MS and Sony blacklisted EA, where would that leave their business? It would completely change the nature of their business and cut off availible markets. I'd love to see how XB1 and PS4 would survive with the same level of support Wii U received. You don't touch on any of these issues, which is why your posts are sometimes maddening to read. Context, please. You act like you're shrugging and saying "makes sense" with no balance or context to your reasoning.
And it has everything to do with confidence, that has been the whole problem around Wii U. It's been savaged by the media and snarky gamers for over 2 and a half years now and it hurts the system whenever a new game is announced with no Wii U version. Everytime that happens and it happens a lot, that's a blow in confidence from X developer or publisher. Wii U is a great system and the majority of owners actually like it, a lot.
It says a lot when these publishers would rather support skus for old systems rather than do a Wii U version. Your own figures put Wii U Call of Duty sales 1%, XB1 at 6% with 360 being at like 60%, you like to use stats like this but these stats if used to determine support would suggest that everyone should just stick to current gen. You show Wii U sales of Batman at 1% and that's bad, but when Wii U sales of Rayman are 45% and sell more than the rest of the skus combined that "only reinforces" that it's for kiddy games?
Your post seems to frame Wii U sales as: so bad early on (which they weren't) thus it was written in stone back then and everybody knew it would eventually fail. They didn't know it back, it's turned out that way now -because it's received no support- so people can now say "called it". Even when they didn't know jack shit back then.
Sales probably will be low now, for games and hardware, as it is, but back when games should have been in development for it that was not the case. These companies didn't allow or forecast for the posibility sales could have improved later on even? Multiplatform games weren't coming out on Wii U because third parties didn't want to release them on Wii U. It's not some people looking at March 2013 NPD and saying "nah" the decisions for support -or no support- happened months and months before the system even launched. It's like the Soup Nazi saying "No soup for you."
Wii U game sales would be a lot better off if third parties killed off last gen skus. Instead they are supporting old and new of some platforms but nothing on Nintendo. They made it clear, even early on that they would commit to 3 years of support for last gen machines... but nothing for Wii U. That's about confidence and that undermines consumer confidence too.
Here's what the media did, well before the system even launched:
And it goes on and on.
BTW, Ubisoft pegged a Wii U version of a multiplat at $1 million. Maybe it's more for other companies, who knows?
Not talking about ground up exclusives like Zombi U but a version of Splinter Cell for instance or Assasins Creed 4 is $1 million per port.
Not factoring in other costs, distribution royalties etc to make that one million back at $48 a copy, means they would have to sell just over 20k to make that back, roughly.
Of course this doesn't factor in server costs for online components.
GG you act like there is no history of the wii, as if that never happend. The wii was the best selling console with mostly abysmal numbers for core third party ports. And you would say well most of the best third party games never came to wii, why is that? Cause Nintendo decided to make it a less powerful system. 3rd parties were already clearly doing poorly on Nintendo systems before that, wii just solidified that notion.
You bring up Rayman as if the answer isn't that the audience that buys wii games aret more childish. What sells best on Nintendo systems, platformers, kid based action games, party games. It is no surprise that batman sold like shit and Rayman sold well,(there is also the previous exclusivity aspect). And yes it is absolutely because only certain kinds of third party games do well on Nintendo consoles.
So why no support of wii u even though first month sales were good, cause Nintendo made the same mistakes again and new ones. Everyone knew the wii u wasn't as good an idea as the wii, no one expected super sales though no one expected a complete bomb either. Nintendo choose to make it less powerful again meaning soon all those companies wouldn't even do a port if they wanted too, to them there is no future on the system so why support it now. Nintendo still has no online structure in place, almost all big third party games have some form online meaning they don't want to waste their time putting their online game on wii u.
Nintendo made no effort to make the wii u more appealing to third parties , it's the exact same situation as the wii without the bubble of sales the wii had. There was never any incentive to make wii u games, you could see this happening from a mile away. And it's all becauseof the choices Nintendo made again . Third parties were ahead of the curve this time, Nintendo do should be happy that ubisoft actually partners with them still.
this is no hard to understand why this is happening, Nintendo wants to act all different and not be in direct competition or whatever, well now everyone is leaving Nintendo alone in the corner to play with itself. So either they can return to the normal gaming scene or remain with horrible third party support.
The actual dev take is about half of that so maybe about 40k which is what those third party games are struggling to achieve. So what's the point.
Why the fuck should Nintendo care about the third parties? Why the hell should Sony and Microsoft care about the 3rd parties? Fuck them and their entitled little asses. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo should not bend to their will, by allowing stuff like online passes, DLCs on discs or paying real money to unlock stuff. No they should care about us the consumers. You know the people that actually buy the consoles. Subsidizing third parties it the cancer in this industry. If they cannot make money on their own, they deserve to go bankrupt!
God damn Metallica suck now. Go home & release material from the 80's when you were good.
Great fucking news on the PS4 backwards compatibility shit. AlphaOmegaSin actually made a video talking about how Sony should do this a few weeks back....and they are.
I have been completely bored by it until I saw those screens that GG posted. It's supposed to come out at the end of 2014 I think, so there will be interceding hype.
Survival of the fittest. Typical robot philosophy.
What's all this?
Is it true BC, ike put in a PS1 disc and it will work? Or just the Sony Now stuff where you pay to stream the game?
Its under the days news up top.
I know this is great....I don't own that many older games anymore either but I have been wanting to rebuild my collection. Nice to be able to play everything on one console, and with possibly better visuals.
Yeah ok iga.
The BC would be truly upscaled so it would look like an HD game. But I bought most HD versions of the ps 2 games I love. It still would be amazing if true.
Guacamelee is amazing. But it, play it. It's Metroid with a luchador.
See this folks? Everyone should consult with me before they play their next game. Not only can I recommend a good drink that matches with a game, but I can recommend a good game that matches with a person.
Oh and really you all should be playing Duck Tales and drinking Four Loco with it.
