I agree with the inertia part but that is just answer why its happening now. Why did it start happening is my question?

The Playstation happened. Sony came with cheaper developing costs, easier to work with console and they did not have to worry about competition with 1st parties. Nintendo came a year too late, had cartridges that were expensive, higher royalties and so on! Sony saw Nintendo's weakness and capitalized on it!

Dvader said:

Agreed on Gamecube but lack of DVD did have something to do with that, I wont say it had a huge impact but it did hurt the GC in terms of hardware sales at least. Nintendo can regain the respect of many of the gaming population that they have lost over the years if they go more tradition, that still probably wont lead to higher sales though.

Gaining respect from the gaming population is like having a hot girl say that you are a great guy, while fucking some other guy. It is nice to hear, but it rings hollow if you are not balls deep in her!

Dvader said:

Agreed on the two choices Nintendo has and on the kinds of third party suppor these systems should get. I agree we need interesting unique third party support. That said it still doesn't sell well cause of whatever reason.

It did not sell well because people thought that niche games like Madworld, Little King's Story, No More Heroes, Muramasa would sell millions. And they thought it would sell millions without any form of advertisement whatsoever! Those games never sell that much not even on the PS2. Games like RE4 Wii version did sell well, but we never got a proper RE game on the Wii.

Dvader said:

Mario is an exception to the rule, not the rule at all. No third party 3D platformer will ever get close to reaching sales of that magnitude but they could become a million seller but no one today wants just a million seller, they want the 5-8 million selling blockbuster. I think it was on one of the game under podcasts where they talked about the death of the mid level budget games, today all we get is the big blockbusters and indies, the mid range game is almost extinct and that is what those 3rd party games on Nintendo would have to be.

True about the mid range and that is the saddest thing about the industry. The Wii was the last bastion for those type of games, but they were hardly there!

Of course I am getting Dark Souls 2, on PS3. It seems like the best of Demon and Dark together, maybe GOTY. I still have no clue what the story was in DS1 and I dont care.

The best selling games on PS3 were made by Sony (God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Uncharted 2 and 3), but that did not dissuade third parties from backing their very difficult to develop for hardware. Sony makes the best games on their system uniformly, if you think back to the prior generations, and it doesn't hurt third party sales.

Those games sales are not even in the same universe as the Mario, Pokemon and Wii whatever franchise, besides Gran Turismo. And even that one has fallen of the map!

Too little too late for that I am affraid. They have to ride it out! It was a bad idea though!

yeah, there is nothing they can do now to bring third parties around to the Wii U, given the disparity in power, the aberrant control scheme and low install base.

Time to try something else.

WTF is your problem with the control scheme? The controller is just a traditional dual analog controller with a screen on it! There is nothing too hard for 3rd parties to handle. The other parts are legit though!

Will have to ride it out and try again in 2018!

My problem with the control scheme, from a "I-want-Nintendo-to-be healthy" point of view is #1 the additional cost to Nintendo, and #2 the confusion it brings to teh MILF market about how she's going to deal with her 2+ kids grappling with the fact that one of them always gets the cool controller and she's powerless to buy a second one to appease the other kids, #3 it's too fucking complicated for the MILF market.

I personally have no problem with it, single gamer household, I know how to wrangle a 18+ button controller, but most MILFs must look at that thing and see this:

when what they understand is this:

They are still in the recruiting phase of PSN+. The greatnes will slow down at some point.

Because really Sony is shooting themselves in the foot with the quality of games they are giving away.

I am playing Modern Warfare 3 and I am incapable of assessing it.

I am unable to drop all the baggage of "I am playing Call of Duty 9 (or whatever)".

Am I having fun? I don't know.

It's kind of like looking at a Renoir or Picasso, you come in with so many preconceptions that you can;t enjoy it for what it is.

I've been able to play all the Call of Duty games up to this one and be able to handle it, maybe it's just because this is when they started to stop working due to repetition.  I still have Black Ops 1 and 2, maybe that will re-spark my intrigue.

Heck they could keep the same specs as the Wii U and without the gamepad, they would be able to sell it for 250 dollars and still make a profit! Or keep the price as it is and bump of the specs!

And while we are at it, Iwata should have walked over to The Pokemon Company and taken their fucking CEO hostage until they made a fucking Pokemon game that is worth a shit for the Super Wii.
