I still dont get why they chose the most beautiful Zelda of all time, the timeless one, as the one that needed a graphics update. TP looks like DOODOO. Fix that one.

I'm sure you remember this, but they tested TP and WW and other Zeldas, probaby SS too with Wii U to see in HD and with effects what they looked like. WW was the one which looked the best and felt more vivid and new. It also seemed to be the easiest Zelda for newcomers so that is why they chose it. The gba to GC connectivity probably played some part in it too concerning how it perfectly fits with the gamepad.

Also, it would be too much work to make TP look good in HD, where WW could survive in HD with a few new ligthing effects.

TP in HD looks like this:

WW looks like this:

This is also relevant to Edgecrushers assertion that many Xbox era games looked better even not cel-shaded, look at them now in HD:

Our websites autofit picture sizing has made some of these look better than they do in full size so right click then open image.

Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida falls asleep during Gamescom PlayStation panel

David Cage was sharing a monologue on storytelling.

Yoshida's eyes began to droop when Heavy Rain and Beyond creator David Cage began to discuss his views on storytelling in video games.

Naturally, Yoshida has already made light of the humourous incident himself via his Twitter account.

In a message posted afterwards, Yoshida blamed the incident on the soothing tones of Cage's voice.

@yosp Did David Cage put you to sleep?

This story is interesting

Stuttering Xbox One Dead Rising 3 performance will improve, Capcom insists

Capcom hopes to address the apparent technical struggles suffered by its Dead Rising 3 Xbox One gameplay demo at Gamescom.

Videogamer reports that the playable short, currently on display at the Cologne games expo, struggles to maintain 30 frames per second with significant dips suffered when the number of zombies on screen is ramped up.

Admitting that the game’s development team "had many questions over the [game's] performance”, senior producer Jason Leigh told the site that things should improve prior to the game’s November release.

"This demo is actually several weeks old and we've made a lot of ground,” he stated. “We've got a little bit more ways to go before we release the game.

"We're targeting 30 frames a second. Because we're based in Vancouver, and Seattle is where Microsoft is based, we're only three hours up the road so we constantly have tech people driving back and forth and they're helping us to make this a very smooth running game at launch."

----------------------

It's probably because it started as a 360 game and they had to use that idiosyncratic code and port it across to a new architecture. When this happened to Wii U games that were ported from 360 skus the response by the gaming community was "LULZ look at how weak U is". Most PS4 and X1 multiplats are ported directed from PC with similar x86 architecture so they don't have the same problem. Wii U is different even from PCs so porting from either will probably be somewhat problematic. Ground up games are another story.

Man that Final Fantasy 10 trailer brought back some great memories. Oh early days of the PS2/Cube/Xbox era were magical.  I think I will grab the Limited Edition of this one. No release date yet...that blows my mind.

I also find it odd that they put Final Fantasy 7 on Steam, but they don't bother with this or any other FF game on the PC.

Eh...I can still appreciate any game's graphics, regardless of style. There were tons of games that I thought looked better than Wind Waker back in the day...and I still think those games look better. They didn't just all the sudden fail to look as good as they used to because they're not cel shaded.

Not for the most part. If you take said old games and view them in HD, which is what Dolphin allows for instance they do not look anywhere near as good. In HD the low res textures and rigid edges with low polys really show up.

edgecrusher said:

It needs a gameplay update much more than graphics. I thought that was the whole point of them redoing this game when they first announced it. Its been years since playing it, but I remember it being way too easy and of course the fetch quest was way over the top. Also, playing the fucking flute to change wind directions constantly was tedius as hell.

They've fixed all of that. Hero mode, sailing without changing the wind direction plus a faster sail, sat nav gamepad use and the fetch quest at the end has been shortened to 3 pieces instead of 8 on the sea, the rest found on land. Plus they have incorporated the tingle tuner gba to GC functionality into the game.

Good shit.

So we're getting an overall impression on PS4 and Xbox One capability. Most games aiming for 30 fps, some struggling. If 60 fps they are usually 720p like a lot of first party U games. The games also have worse textures than PC even with the 8gb of RAM (3-3.5 GB reserved for OS). The games are already notably worse looking than PC skus all around include effects, Watchdogs (digital foundry breakdown), BF4 (IGN breakdown) for instance. It appears the mobile cpus aren't that powerful as they are working towards getting to a 30 fps target. Not aiming for 60. Ports from 360 code seems problematic (Dead Rising)

PS4 GPU, "like 40 per cent more powerful. DDR5 is basically 50 per cent more powerful than DDR3, but the memory write is bigger on Xbox One" according to Gaijin indie devs.

IGN: Battlefield 4's graphics lacking on PS4:

With the arrival of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, EA and DICE have promised to bring the Battlefield PC experience to consoles, including massive scale maps, 64 player matches, and 60 frames-per-second gameplay. But up until now, all of the demos we've seen of Battlefield 4 have been running on supercharged PCs, producing jaw-dropping, unsurprisingly gorgeous results.

This week at Gamescom, however, I had an opportunity to play Battlefield 4 on a PlayStation 4 development system, and the resulting experience has me worried. But what's more concerning is how the game looks.

From the moment I sat down, I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the visuals. Instead of the crisp, detailed textures I've encountered this week on the PC version or other next-gen shooter titles, Battlefield 4 on PS4 looked soft and muddled.

Wall textures looked half-finished, lacking some of the smaller material nuances or 3D variation. Environmental destruction was more extensive than Battlefield 3 and explosions would send larger chunks of buildings into the air, but once again, the particles looked dull. Weapon models looked great at the hip, but as soon as I raised them to look down the iron sights or scopes, imperfections became apparent. Another contributing factor was resolution.

While EA and DICE have not confirmed what resolution the game will run at on next-gen consoles, for the purposes of this demo, it was running at a resolution higher than 720p, but not 1080p. Though the difference between the two formats may not be recognizable to more casual players, after spending the week checking out games running natively at 1080p, it was readily apparent to me.

If today's demonstration is any indication, DICE's commitment to supporting 64-player games and maintaining a solid 60 FPS on next-gen consoles could very well come at the cost of visual fidelity, and as a franchise renowned for its state-of-the-art graphics, it's an unexpected compromise.

I would pay to see Damon as robiin just or the hilarity of it all. Though it should be the other way around, Affleck is clearly the sidekick.

Ubisoft says Assassin's Creed IV to return to more open-ended gameplay:

"The cities operate very similarly to the way Assassin's Creed 2 did it. We brought it back to an Assassin's Creed 1/Assassin's Creed 2 style with open-ended assassination. I don't know if it was a response to [it], beacuse we started developing the game a year before Assassin's Creed 3 came out, but we were all fans of the open ended quality. I think we were actually looking back at Assassin's Creed Revelations and Assassin's Creed 3, both of which had kind of gone towards a more linear Uncharted style of experience.

We wanted to go back to Assassin's Creed 1/Assasson's Creed 2 style open-ended assassinations, so even before we saw the result of what Assassin's Creed 3 was doing, we just knew this was a philosophy we wanted to follow.
