Zeschuck needs a reality check. SWTOR "doing really well" my hairy Canadian ass. It was the most expensive game ever made at the time (and still may be) costing well in excess of a hundred million and sold nowhere near that level of sucess costing the publisher a ridiculous amount of money. SWTOR is a resounding failure. There is a reason people call it TORtanic. It is doing better than BEFORE on a free to play model but doing better than shit is still only doing slightly better than shit.

This game was a disaster.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist confirmed for Wii U

REDMOND, Wash., Apr 10, 2013 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nintendo's third-party partners are bringing an impressive array of great games to the Wii U(TM) home console, including new games and exclusive information from Disney and Ubisoft(R).

"Disney, Ubisoft and our other third-party partners have a great lineup of exclusive games and unique experiences for fans of all ages," said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America's vice president of Licensing. "Their creativity spans every audience and genre, creating new ways to play that can only be experienced on Nintendo platforms."

Disney Interactive is bringing Disney's Planes, a flying adventure video game inspired by the upcoming Disney animated comedy adventure film, exclusively to Nintendo platforms. The game will be available for the Wii U and Wii(TM) consoles as well as the Nintendo 3DS(TM) and Nintendo DS(TM) hand-held systems on Aug. 6, just a few days prior to the film's Aug. 9 opening in theaters nationwide. The game will expand beyond the storyline of the Disney's Planes film, offering players the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of flight as one of the popular characters from the film.

Disney is also bringing Disney Infinity to Wii U, Wii and Nintendo 3DS on Aug. 18. Disney Infinity is Disney's new gaming platform that combines Disney's most popular franchises with interactive figures that come to life in the game. Players can place real-world toy versions of their favorite Disney characters onto a device called the Infinity Base and transport them into the virtual game worlds of Monsters University, The Incredibles, Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as into a giant Toy Box.

"Wii U offers our developers unique tools to showcase our fun franchises," said Javier Ferriera, Senior Vice President, Publishing at Disney Interactive. "No matter which Nintendo system you own, every member of the family will have fun playing."

Ubisoft confirms that Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell(R) Blacklist(TM) is coming to Wii U on Aug. 20 in North America, Aug. 22 for EMEA territories and Aug. 23 in the UK. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist on Wii U will deliver a unique gaming experience that puts players in the role of special operative and 4th Echelon leader Sam Fisher. Showcasing enhanced game-play features using the Wii U GamePad controller, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist allows players to operate innovative gadgets, take out enemies and move through the environment, and intuitively switch between weapons, among other features. The GamePad touch screen, along with motion-based inputs, are sure to immerse fans and gamers alike in this thrilling modern-day adventure.

Additionally, Ubisoft brings Rayman Legends online for the first time with a new demo, including the full online challenge mode. The online challenge mode is made up of four levels, including "Murfy's Dungeon," exclusive to Wii U. New challenges are added daily and weekly, and each comes with its own individual leaderboards. The demo will be available in late April.

"Wii U gives both games a second-screen experience that fans will enjoy," said Tony Key, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing, Ubisoft. "The genres are different, yet both games share fun game play and replayability."

A partial sampling of other key third-party games available this spring and summer includes:

-- Injustice: Gods Among Us from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment launches April 16 with off-TV game-play functionality and an optional "Quick Moves List" lookup on the GamePad while the game plays on the television.

-- Batman and Robin return in LEGO(R) Batman(TM) 2: DC Super Heroes this spring for Wii U from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, with off-TV functionality and enhanced interactive map viewable on the GamePad.

-- Resident Evil(R): Revelations from Capcom returns on May 21, redefined for Wii U with exclusive Miiverse features, including the ability to post a dying message on the Game Over screen for other players around the world to see, and the "Creatures Voice" function allowing players to personalize the thoughts of enemies in Raid Mode and taunt their friends.

-- Fast & Furious(TM): Showdown from Activision launches May 21 with adrenaline-packed racing action for Fast & Furious fans.

-- Sniper Elite V2 from 505 Games launches this May with new controls and a level of interactivity only possible with the Wii U GamePad touch screen.

-- Coming soon to Wii U, DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION(R) - DIRECTOR'S CUT from Square Enix is packed with new features exclusive to the Wii U, including Miiverse integration and multiple game-play improvements leveraging the Wii U GamePad.

Games that will be available exclusively as digital downloads in the Nintendo eShop for Wii U include:

-- DuckTales Remastered from Capcom: Releasing this summer, DuckTales Remastered is a hand-crafted, beautiful HD reimagining of one of the most iconic Disney 8-bit titles that follows the adventures of Scrooge McDuck as he explores differently themed worlds to collect their treasures and become the world's richest duck.

-- Dungeons & Dragons(R): Chronicles of Mystara(TM) from Capcom brings HD re-workings of two of Capcom's classic arcade hits - Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara - together in one definitive digital package in June, complete with a wealth of enhancements and game-play options.

-- Mutant Mudds Deluxe from Renegade Kid launches in Q2 with off-TV functionality and 20 new ghostly levels that are exclusive to Wii U.

-- Spin the Bottle from Knapnock Games: Spin the Bottle is a party game where players look at each other rather than the TV, launching in early summer.

-- Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails marks Dakko Dakko's Nintendo eShop debut. A frenetic action platform game with unique controls and a striking visual style, Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails will be released for Wii U later in 2013.

So this year Wii U is getting or already has:

  • LEGO City
  • NFS Most Wanted
  • Splinter Cell Blacklist
  • Assasins Creed Black Flag
  • Watchdogs
  • Rayman Legends
  • Batman Arkham Origins
  • LEGO Marvel Superheroes
  • Injustice Gods Among us
  • Deus Ex Human Revolution Ultimate edition
  • Pikmin 3
  • Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
  • Maybe... X?
  • RE Revelations
  • The Wonderful 101
  • Bayonetta 2

Not bad, regardless if they are multiplats or not, you can get them on U, usually with offscreen play and more. Hopefully Nintendo will ignite a rocket up its ass at E3, we already have confirmed Mario Kart, Zelda 2, Zelda WW, Mario Platformer, X. Still have to see what Retro is cooking up.

BTW I don't see the point of this blackgate handheld Batman. They should have just made this with sparkling new assets and 3D on 3DS:

Rayman Legends delay: 'I wasn't shocked by the backlash,' says Michel Ancel

Silver lining:

However Ancel, together with Senior Game Manager Michael Micholic, have used the extra time to create new content for the game. The result is 30 extra levels and some new boss battles.

Micholic said: "Trust me, the things we are adding aren't minor. We're not talking about adding some polish here and there, but 30 new levels and several new bosses."

Deep Silver: 'We're much better than the Activisions, EAs, and Ubisofts of the world'

"The difference is we make money," jokes Dead Island publisher's COO.

Dead Island publisher Deep Silver has claimed that it is "much better than the Activision's, EAs, and Ubisofts of the world" because it actually "make(s) money", and attributes Dead Island's success to "some genius marketing... that larger companies wouldn't try".

"We're a small, guerilla tactics company," Deep Silver's COO Geoff Mulligan told Game Informer in an interview published in the magazine. "People say, 'Oh, you acquired Volition and Metro, you're going to be a triple-A publisher. What separates us from a triple-A publisher is that I don't really have a desire to be a triple-A publisher.

"I actually think we're much better than the Activisions, EAs, and Ubisofts of the world. People say, 'What do you mean? They are valued at three billion dollars.' I say the difference is that we make money. [Laughs]"

Deep Silver is a division of privately-held entertainment distribution company Koch Media. The firm saw its first major success story with Dead Island, before acquiring Metro: Last Light, Saints Row 4 and Volition from defunct publisher THQ.

"That's what it's all about," Mulligan continues. "Now, with the acquisition of Metro and Saints Row, it allows us to, again, go from strength to strength. But do I want to hire 500 people and build a world headquarters? That's not what we do - nor is it what we need to do."

Mulligan believes that you "do not need a giant organization anymore to succeed as a video games publisher, citing Deep Silver's ability to "move quickly" and "use guerilla tactics" as reasons for its success.

"I firmly believe that you do not need a giant organization anymore. That's what's killing so many publishers. The moment you don't have a giant, triple-A hit, your overhead absolutely eats you alive. What do you do if this big, triple-A game didn't hit? You've got to ship another one very quickly and hope that one does."

"I wouldn't consider us a middle-class publisher at all," he continued, "we're a publisher that, in a difficult and rapidly evolving marketplace, uses guerilla tactics. We move quickly and we don't have a public board of directors to answer to. We like what we do and have fun. That's important! You go to some of these companies - you probably have good friends at some of these companies. You go hang out with them, and they are miserable or they are frightened. I think our people are having a really good time."

Deep Silver achieved major success with Dead Island, a zombie-themed action-RPG released in September 2011 that went on to sell over 5 million units.

However, Mulligan admits that luck played a part in the game's success.

"We thought it would be a very good title," he added. "Did any of us predict the kind of runaway success that we've had - three million [in the US], five million worldwide? I don't think in anybody's wildest imagination would it have gone that far.

"Luck had a lot to do with it, and some genius marketing - marketing events that larger companies wouldn't try."

The sequel Dead Island: Riptide is due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC later this month.

Anyone here buy Dead Island? Deep Silver was a pretty average publisher but it bought two of THQs hand offs so is now more important?

Dead Island got a 71 on Metacritic, I always thought it piggybacked on Dead Rising's sucess? Am I wrong or is it a good game? Most sites gave it a 7.0 or lower.

'We Hate To See All PS4 Games Being FPS' - Yoshida

Shuhei Yoshida claiming in an interview in the latest issue of Edge that not all games will be targeted at FPS players.

When asked about why the importance of the PS4 reveal's first game being decidely cutesy game Knack, Yoshida said "Yeah, it was pretty intentional.

"Mark's idea was like, "What about a Crash Bandicoot for PS4?" When he suggested the concept of Knack, we were like, "Yeah, we hate to see all the PS4 games being FPS or action-adventure or very photorealistic" - you know, big-budget blockbuster games."

Yoshida added, "We know that people like these games, but these are not the only kinds of games that people can have fun with."

Batman Origins Blackgate info:

said:

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - screens, details

- Warner Bros. wanted to have a 2.5D-style Arkham game in the style of Metroidvania

- The company chose Armature because the studio was familiar with that style of game

- Takes place after the end of Origins

- Set on the isolated island at the Blackgate Penitentiary

- Prison uprising has occurred

- Intro level in Gotham

- Batman goes to Blackgate in order to put a stop to the riot

- 2D animatics with full voices tell the story

- Batman moves through a side-scrolling game world

- He’ll pick up near gear and take on enemies along the way

- Interconnected passages and prison secrets

- Not focused on leveling up abilities like the console games

- Instead, it stays true to the subgenre’s formula

- All of Batman’s improvements came through gear pick-ups and upgrades

- Team wanted to give players more of a sense of collection

- Mostly set along a 2D plane

- Takes full advantage of the visual three-dimensionality of the environments

- Explore, fight, and interact with the foreground abnd background

- Can grapple up to gargoyles on a background balcony while a crowd of armed inmates pass by

- Enemies will go after Batman from all angles

- Go to the foreground or background to tackle a designed foe

- Combat similar to the console Batman games

- Button taps to attack, counter, and use gear are in place

- Freeflow combat system

- Built from the ground up

- Batarang: stun enemies or hit distant objects

- Line launcher: cross wide gaps

- Explosive gel variation: shoot from a launcher onto spots around the screen

- This lets you get involved with entertaining takedowns such as dropping a chandelier on enemies from above

- More gadgets will also be in the game

- Has a version of the predator mode

- Game has a few more layers of feedback

- Ex: can see the sightlines of enemies

- This lets you know if enemies can see you or not

- Same kind of vantage points, floor grates, silent takedowns, glide kicks, weapon use, and breakable walls as in the console games

- Game is split into various sections

- Each can be accessed once you figure out a way inside

- No save rooms

- Modern checkpoint system

- Can manually save whenever you desire

- Can defeat the bosses in any ordder if you find out where you want to go

- “We don’t want you to break the game, but if you can exploit it in a certain way that we haven’t thought of, that’s awesome. So it’s conceivable the players will have abilities that don’t necessarily jibe that great with the boss. We’ve taken some cues from other games where if you have a particular item against a boss, you’ll just rip them a new one, but we don’t tell you what that item is”

- Will have detective mode

- Tap a button and the screen fades into a digitized overlay with detailed info

- Green enemies: enemies haven’t seen you

- Red enemies: enemies are onto your location

- Move a reticle around the screen to focus Batman’s attention

- Can use this to uncover secrets

- Uncover clues and analyze dangerous situations in detective mode

Batman Origins info:

said:

Story

- Takes place on Christmas Eve

- Years before the previous two games

- Mob boss Black Mask will give a fortune for Batman’s head

- Top assassins and supervillains from the DC Comics universe are out to get Batman

- Cops on the take from the mob join the manhunt as well

- Batman needs to outsmart his enemies, find out why Black Mask wants him dead, and prove to what good cops that he’s on their side

General

- Porting Arkham City to Wii U let the team get familiar with Unreal 3

- Doing a prequel lets the team carve a unique territory if Rockstar were to move the Arkham timeline ahead down the road

- Rocksteady’s project is tightly under wraps

- Younger Batman also “gives us the opportunity to refresh things a bit”

- Combat system still in place

- Will have “new layers, new opportunities, and new tactics”

- New enemy types

- Batman not as finely honed as in the previous games

- Won’t control the Batwing directly

- Batwing will figure into story sequences and acts as a universe-appropriate form of fast travel

- Has the traditional predator mode in which players swing from perch to perch, glide kick, string guys upside-down, etc.

- New remote claw that is like the grappler in Just Cause 2

- Batman targets two objects and fires out a claw

- This hooks into the first object and launches another claw and rope to the second object

- Can then pull the two objects together

- Use this to knock enemies together, slam heavy objects into foes, string objects or people under a perch

- Can string up an explosive barrel under a perch, lure enemies with a sonic batarang, then cut the rope with a normal batarang, dropping the explosive on their heads

- Team knows Black Mask isn’t the most popular villain

- Old Gotham is only half of the game world

- Another new entire is across the bridge called New Gotham

- New Gotham is classier and has much taller skyscrapers

- New zone doubles the size of the game world

- Players can dismantle the hacked tower network

- Towers emit a jamming signal that prevents the Batwing from flying into the area, meaning no fast travel

- It also halts Batman’s sensors from placing points of interest on the map

- Taking down the towers are varied and require all of Batman’s navigation, puzzle solving, and combat skills

- Some can be taken down quickly, others must be returned to later with an upgrade

- “Crime in Progress”: ex – saving some cops from a group of thugs, rescuing a snitch from being tossed off a roof

- Activities give Batman a chance for experience point bonuses

- Completing side quests also contributes to the GCPD’s understanding and appreciation of Batman

- They will begin to know Batman and which side he stands on based on how much you take on the optional missions

- Most Wanted system gives players a chance to go after villains outside of the core storyline

- These optional side missions can be tackled when you discover them

- Many optional missions offer upgrades

- Batman’s butler Alfred may notice that he had a tough time in that situation and give him a new gadget

- Dark Knight system is slightly more behind the scenes, though it’s still important

- Dark Knight system provides a lengthy string of tasks that slowly goes up in difficulty as the game progresses

- The team wants to avoid boring tutorials while still training players to be masters of predator and combat systems

- Complete a certain number of counters or silent takedowns to receive XP rewards or a specific upgrade

- Dark Knight system doesn’t replace challenge mode

- Team wants to make challenges more meaningful

Game demo

- Takes place about an hour into the game

- Batman is perched above Jezebel plaza

- Black Mask’s assassins have stirred up the local thugs

- No towering walls keeping villains in check and many citizens call Arkham City home since there isn’t a prison

- Amusement Mile hasn’t been flooded

- Batman is looking to find out why Black Mask is trying to kill him

- Batman decides to go to the party to track down Penguin, who hears about everything

- Eventually, Penguin gives some intel on a murder at Lacey Towers

- Claw grips Batman’s ankle and drags him out of the room before he can finish his questioning

- Batman reaches for the door, but his arm is stomped by a mysterious figure

- Batman ends up suspended upside-down from the rafters

- Deathstroke circles Batman with a drawn sword

- Batman blocks and disarms Deathstroke, using the sword to cut himself free

- Thanks to Penguin’s tip, Batman goes to Lacey Towers

- The cops say it’s a double homicide

- One victim is supposedly Black Mask

- Inside the apartment, Batman sees Black Mask’s girlfriend strung up on a chandelier

- Black Mask’s assumed body is laying face up across the room

- Batman goes into first-person detective vision to examine the situation

"Porting Arkham City to Wii U let the team get familiar with Unreal 3 "

Seems Wii U Arkham City did have a purpose, it gave them experience for this new game. Let's hope they drop vsync when things get hectic and stablise the framerate.

Deep Silver has nothing that really interests me. I've never even tried Dead Island, Metro, or Saint's Row. I might, and I really stress MIGHT, try Saint's Row 3 from the $20 or less bin but even if I enjoyed it I still don't really have any confidence in them as a developer.

Oh, ok then.

That portable Batman game sounds incredible, kind of like Shadow Complex.  Both games seem like must buys ATM.

Oh Batman sounds good. Though does every game need to follow the AC method of opening the map, completing a tower.

You guys, if there is enough of an uproar MS will just patch the system with an update so you wont have to be online. Maybe towards the end of the systems life they would just release an offline patch.

How fucked up would that be. "Oh we could have done this all along but we wanted to screw you guys for a gen, now its ok to be offline."

Every major PS3 game coming out this year is not a FPS. Last of Us, Beyond, Puppetteer, Sly Cooper. Why would anyone think that the PS4 will just have FPS when the majority of Sony's best games are not.

That is an odd statement.  The Sony brand is hardly known for FPS.

Its worse than that though because if games require an online verification to work and you buy the system and a big library and 10 years from now those servers are gone and your games no longer work. Steam is setup differently because it doesn't have generation changes while the consoles do.

This is a huge recipe for disaster, and a complete waste of money.

Oh I fully agree. A couple of you seem to have misunderstood my post.

I was merely explaining why MS would be intransigent on doing a backflip on this if they chose to.  GG thinks it's a simple technical fix, which is true, the more difficult thing would be for a corporation like MS, having made this decision, to about face on it.

(re-read my original post for details).

Saints Row The Third was developed and published prior to Deep Silver acquiring Volition. So rest assured this excellent game has nothing to do with Deep Silver.

Hey, it was a free DL for buying Infinite.  Why not relive a classic?

I told you Blacklist was coming to Wii U GG.

If its close to the PC version graphically I may get the Wii U version. I'm actually considering Deus Ex on the U too just cuz I love that game & it looks great on the U.

LOL that would be epic. I mean at launch they could patch out the online requirement if there is an uproar but, if they didn't and the gen was ending they could patch out online for legacy purposes.
