Analyst: Wii U game sales 'far behind Gamecube and Wii'

"Totals for the November-December period were -43% lower than software sales for the Wii and -50% lower than those for the GameCube."

Makes sense to me. Don't know about where you are in the world but Wii U costs more than twice as much than GC or Wii which launched at around £130, Wii U is £300 for the deluxe.

And the games are £45-50 where Wii games were £30-35

If U was priced the same as GC or Wii I would have been able to buy 3 more games in addition to the three I already bought, as well as the three digital games I got.

EDIT: In the UK there is no retail presence either, I have been to different stores who all have 30 + PS3 or 360 games on shelves and 1 Wii U game on display.

It’s definitely not amazing compared to the Wii, which sold 600,000 units in the USA in its first week (the Wii U did 400,000). Countering this, Nintendo has come out with a press release stating that the Wii U has generated more in revenue than the Wii did during its first six weeks - $300 million versus $270 million. The Wii was cheaper, though, so it’s hardly a fair comparison. In Japan, the Wii U and the Wii have had very similar first-month sales – the Wii had sold 544,034 units after three weeks, and the Wii U sold 557,901.

Next to other comparable launches – the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 – the Wii U has done better. This is encouraging, as the Wii U is launching into a more challenging market than the PS3 and 360 were back in 2006 and 2007. Ars Technica uses the US sales figures as a comparison, setting 400,000 first-week Wii U systems against 197,000 PS3s and 326,000 Xboxes sold in the first two weeks. In Japan, in the first 3 weeks, digging back through Media Create data, the PS3 only shifted 156,400. Looking at how the PS3 and 360 tracked over the first month of their launches, the Wii U is almost certainly ahead.

Nope. Are they particularly negative about the Wii U? I don't go there, I find their site to be without purpose.  I do honestly think the Wii U sales over Christmas were less than what Nintendo would have expected.

I read the article GG posted, but important to remember that the PS2, 360 and Wii were severly supply constrained at launch (as opposed to the U). It was impossible to buy a 360, Wii or PS2 within 6 months of launch at retail unless you had a pre-order or a connection.
