The only reason I stopped listening is because the thread on the gaming forum disappeared.
IMO I don't think third parties are going to do much at all with the power, or if they do it will be unseen. As in the higher power will most probably be needed to get a different 3D scene on the padlet screen so in essence resources would be split between TV and pad screen and you wouldn't see a graphical difference that noticible - in terms of it being 'better' than 360.
I also do not think that there will be a lot of exclusives on this thing, mostly ports of 360 games and then devs will go onto making Nextbox and PS4 games so you won't get a lot of ground up Wii U games not from Nintendo, which show what it can do. You would also have to have a dev just use the pad screen as a 2D menu, or item switching device and that would leave max power to render visuals on the HDTV. That's when you could see a difference.
You should see the difference between RE Revelations in 2D vs 3D. Flip that 3D slider to off and you instantly get better aliasing, smoother edges and a better frame rate and it makes a big difference.
^On the gaming forum? Do you mean the podcast tab?
OH MY FUCKING WORD....MIND BLOWN!!!
I never realised that the nunchuck is basically the middle piece of the N64 controller. That is insane!
That was the first thing I thought of when I tried it. It felt like I was playing Goldeneye or something that requires you to actually hold the middle bit the whole time.
Well the Gamecube proved that Nintendo can be masters at packing power in a small shell. I don't understand why people forget this. The only reason the Wii wasn't any fucking smaller is because you wouldn't be able to put a disc in it or have those Cube ports on the side if it was!
Especially if they're not putting a big hard drive in the new system (which I think is a mistake, but if that's the only mistake I will take it) I don't see why it couldn't be a fairly compact console. You borught up a good point about the dev kits too...how there is different versions out there. Nintendo has likely just started sending out dev kits to some of the smaller developers and I'm sure only the best of the best have the most recent, top spec kits right now. So if this low power story is true, it could be coming from guys who don't even have the kits that will be the final machine.
Either way, if the console is going to be able to run a 1st generation Zelda that looks like that, its a powerful console beyond the 2005/2006 consoles.
Yeah on the forum, there was the podcast thread and I could keep up with all the new comments and podcasts and see what I missed. With the podcast page and separate threads it's like a rollercoaster and I can't keep up with it all.
That Zelda demo was realtime and can be done, but from what I hear it was done by a 3rd party with art input from Nintendo's Zelda team. Whether EAD could do a Zelda looking like that, a full scale game? I'm not sure if they could maintain that quality in a large game, they don't have the experience.
I don't understand some GAF people who point out that the Zelda demo was in one room with no AI. That demo 'room' is the single largest room or chamber that has ever been seen in a Zelda game, zelda doesn't do indoor areas bigger than that so I don't see why Wii U couldn't do that with a few enemies in the room? It's not like Zelda is a game that throws tons of enemies at you at once, there would be 6 bad guys max in that room in traditional Zelda design.
Well the wii is a shrunk down GC plus+ in a much slimmer form, so I would think that almost 7 years later Nintendo would be able to fit 360 graphics into a slim shell too, assuming they used modern chipsets and all. Digital Foundrys argument is that the slim 360 and PS3 aren't nearly as slim as Wii U, but they have to make their slim models with the original tech and compatibility in mind. If you are designing hardware from scractch with modern components I assume you would be able to make a smaller machine?
I think the DF article said that the only reason PS3 slim wasn't slimmer was because it had the power brick inside it? Is this true? Anyone own one? I can't remember? The Wii U has a 360 style external brick and it will use SDcards and maybe have a small flash drive built in like wii had.
BF3 media - cancelled game
So you mean instead of having a thread for each podcast you'd find it easier with one for all of them?
I definitely expect this, and just about every other major Wii, Gamecube, and N64 franchise to be getting the HD treatment. Its why I look upon my Wii collection with uncaring eyes.
I like the blue box too BTW...gives it a blu ray type look. Definitely cooler than the crappy white Wii boxes.
It's not just the one thread. Put it this way, the old way was like a stop on the way to work.
Now it's like having to make a special trip out of town. I know it's only a couple of clicks away and all but I need to remind myself to go there and check everything.
GAF is funny, so this is the DF graph they had up to say that the wii U is so small it has to be weak:
Other GAF dude said: "The Wii U has a larger rear fan, an additional side fan, and at least twice as much vent area. Combined with tech that's at least 9 years newer than the Wii, smaller die sizes and no space taken up by Gamecube ports/memory slots, and it makes for a console you can't just compare using volume alone."
Anyone remember this article? It was from September last year
^Exactly what I was saying!
The Dreamcast wasn't as big as the Playstation or the N64 either...so I guess it too was weaker.
Oh wait, I see what you mean. You mean before there was the podcast tab at all and it was just in the gaming section?
What if I start a thread there just for you and post the podcasts in it?
FUCKING ROFL at a volume comparison. Who are these idiots?
I would be shamefully embarrased and never post in it.
Wait, a mario shooter?
What was the reaction when a Sonic game got guns?
Anyway, yesterday a well known GAF poster had a thread announcing James Bond Skyfall Wii U. Then his post was hastily deleted and he vanished.
The game will be a multiplat, I'm just interested because didn't Activision shutdown the developer of that third person Bond game? So.... could Eurocom be making it? A man can hope.
But it would allow you to listen to the podcasts in secret?
Not now that you've told everyone.
Give me a hells yeah for todays Wii U news from a named (not anonymous) developer at Gearbox actually working on Aliens Wii U
There it is, more ram, really great processor, best version of the game we heard already
And we already heard from Gearbox last year that it would be running at a higher resolution than we've seen on consoles before, maybe he's talking texture resolution?
Here's what the Aliens director said exactly:
"I think things like the Wii U are really becoming very sexy with what you can do with the controller and especially with what you're able to do with things, like using motion tracker or whatever sub-gameplay that you'll see on there. I think that that's a, compelling experience. I think the machine itself will be one of the best looking versions of the game because you know, they've got more RAM then you know, some of the other things (platforms) and because they're late in the cycle so they've got this really great processor and some of the other stuff. This particular engine has the potential to really cross the generational gap between now and then."
and it's not even an anonymous source!
Not only from a known dev, it's the second video interview too. They shows their faces and shit.
