The article kind of seemed like a badly written April Fools Joke by someone wanting to piss off Nintendo fans.
I'll tell you what though, if its not true its a pretty shitty thing to spread false negative rumors as truth about any system. If it gets around enough it will be something people believe whether true or not.
But yeah I don't see why Nintendo wouldn't at LEAST use a card like the 4870 at this point. They're pretty cheap now. And highly capable.
GI and Eurogamer and Digital Foundry are all affiliates, pretty much the same site. DF had that article that said that the Wii U casing was so small it had to be crappy performance.
This is the GC and Xbox 1 motherboards next to each other.
September last year:
Crytek: Wii U specs are “very good”
Crytek’s Avni Yerli said in a recent interview:
“The specs are very good. It’s a challenge for designers, but once thought through it can add value, and that’s what’s ultimately important. Our guys in Nottingham they are very happy with their tests on the dev kits and they’re excited about it.”
And where is this interview from? Gamesindustry.biz, same site that has the below 360 article up today. And here again, from an interview on gamesindustry.biz:
EA's Frank Gibeau
In an interview with GamesIndustry (membership required), Gibeau said his company was “really blown away by the unique innovation that Nintendo brings with the Wii U controller, on a high performance machine.”
'High performance machine'
Thanks for posting all of the GG. Just goes to reinforce my belief that no one who knows anything is really going to say anything credible, and ultimately it doesn't matter.
What does matter is this:
The Wii U can run a MMORPG without compromise
Just letting you know that once a few good MMO's start showing up on home consoles, be they the Wii U or others, you'll never be able to communicate with me unless I'm at work or someplace else I'm supposed to be productive. I already said that once DQX is out this will happen, but if there are other good MMO's on the Wii U it's all over for me.
VADER
I will pesevere and podcast if you can make it!
Lets do a quick one. Get started on notes.
Alright.
Give me 15 minutes and I'll be ready.
Just curious , having never listened to these podcasts. I have a few questions:
I'm not a big podcast guy, I never listen to any of them so it's nothing personal, I always feel like an hour or two listening to these is like an hour or two I could be doing something else no offense.
1. I get to actually physically talk about games with you guys and it is pretty fun.
2. A few of us here do and that is enough for me.
3. When the new site went up we decided to do a podcast as well.
^What he said, and apparently it somehow got 100 listens regularly in the past. How the fuck that happened and who those people are nobody knows. It also affects us in no way given that these people don't comment here or on iTunes. If they did still wouldn't really matter, though.
Yeah those people are a great mystery. BTW I already sent messages to leo and aspro so I got that covered.
First of all, listening to podcasts is not something that you do exclusively. It's a more passive listening type of thing, that you have playing while gaming, housework, exercise etc... I could not imagine sitting in front of a computer for an hour plus listening to us (or anyone else).
The appeal for me in participating is that I truly enjoy talking with Foolz and Vader (and Homer and Yoda when they are on). They are genuinely nice, funny and insightful people. The secondary reason I like doing it is that it provides the site with a feature beyond forums, and as the others have said, we've had listenership in the past that exceeds the active membership of the site. From what I can gather this is true of other podcasts, like Weekend Confirmed, Giantbombcast and Player One Podcast (people listen who never visit the site).
Some people are aural learners -- people who like to listen to talk radio, podcasts, c-span etc... -- but I think most people are not, so I don't think your disterest in non-music audio entertainment is unusual.
I also am not a fan of listening to podcasts.
I only enjoy listening to them when I actually know the people personally. It gives it a another dimension than a bunch of people waffling on for several hours; you can get the information from most podcats much faster by other means, and I couldn't really care less what Gerstmann is playing or thinks about something. If I know the people involved then their opinions are interesting.
Thanks for the answers guys, maybe I will have to give it a listen. The problem for me is I would have to sit in front of my computer. Which is not appealing I like to get up and move. Plus My Klipsch Ultras got trashed my basement flooded so its all headphones.
I thought you were a PC as well as console gamer?
I am but not as much, as My PC is getting very dated. I have a 360 S hooked up at my PC monitor though along with another at my big screen. So its almost like PC gaming. And I can do that or play some stuff on Steam. But nothing really very new on Steam. I was able to play Mass Effect 2 on my PC but nothing that that requires a dual core or more. Plus I do have Vita which I love and I watch my Big screen while gaming on the PC monitor too.
PS I'm ADD LOL short attention span theater.
Oh okay.
Personally I would not listen to any podcast unless I could do so on an MP3 player/ smart phone.
As for the Wii rumors vis a vis power, I quote Method Man, "I could give it to you, but what you gonna do with it?"
I really don't care until it releases. It is hard to conceive that it would only be on par with a 360 given that even the 360 cut corners (and that was 5-6 years ago).
It be virtually impossible for the Wii not to be more powerful as the current gen. But like Foolz and Method Man said, it's what they do with it that matters.
I'm still not buying until I can feel what the controller feels like in a store, I'm still sceptical about the form factor. Also still interested in how they handle local multiplayer and the controllers.
