Well keep at it cause there's a pretty cool bit after that that you wouldn't expect in a modern FPSer!
Plus it feels like a relief after you've been through that crap!
Bad animation has nothing to do with horsepower. Good graphics and good animation aren't mutually exclusive.
I am pretty sure he knows that, I think he is just refering to that PSN game.
Ya don't say. He said imagine Endless Ocean on current gen hardware. It exists and looks worse because HD bullshit doesn't matter with graphics like that.
Who cares if fucking rocks will have better textures lol. The graphics won't be substantially improved because the important thing is the animation of the fish.
"Sony: you shoved your penis in the behive. Get ready to feel our sting."
IS THIS SHIT SERIOUS?
Alan Moore writes better than that FFS.
EDIT:
You know this could actually pass as a completely stupid Sony press release featuring Ridge Racer come to think of it.
Yeah, I have to beat it. I spent another hour on it today. I think I'll try taking a few days off of it and come back with a clean slate.
"Readings Monday from a robot that entered two crippled buildings at Japan's tsunami-flooded nuclear plant for the first time in more than a month displayed a harsh environment still too radioactive for workers to enter."
Did we really need to send in a robot to find this out? (NYTimes).
Sorry, I call BS, they made a realistic Zelda on the Gamecube and they could have made the next one on Wii. I know what you want out of Nintendo and you know as well as I do that they will zag rather than zig. When they made Twilight Princess everyone nodded in approval and Nintendo made noises about continuing in that fashion - then Skyward Sword was shown. Wind Waker, two cel-shaded DS games, a cel-shaded Wii game. This is the link Nintendo envisions.
Nintendo already takes 4 years to put out a zelda with gamecube graphics or wii graphics. How much time and resources do you think it would take them to make an HD zelda? And the gameplay and pattern hasn't changed, you get the overworld and temples. Nintendo isn't about to go open world on your ass. And games like Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy and Kirby Epic Yarn, how would having 360 like hardware make the games any better? Unless you just want better textures. I have a wish list of what I would want for Nintendo's franchises too, but here we are in 2011 expecting a Zelda game still with no voice acting.
I've already seen what a PS3 hardware Endless Ocean will look like in Aquanaughts. Not overly impressed. That's not to say that it couldn't be done better, but Arika is a 3rd party and if they wanted to they could put out an HD Endless Ocean type game on the HD systems already.
I'd love for you to explain how Mario Galaxy would look ridiculously better on better hardware. It's a stylised, cartoon game where the hardware and the intended presentation perfectly mesh. It already has shaders, what more would you do with it? Highly detailed Kameo like rock surfaces? This is not what Mario, or Nintendo is about. Also factor in that in game development terms, Nintendo has never coded on HD consoles, the first few years of their games will probably have visuals like the first few years of the 360 while 3rd parties will be far ahead. And if I wanted to play 3rd party games, I could already do that on my 360.
Nintendo is about tight gameplay and tight level design. They don't want to make worlds bigger, that would go against the gameplay they want to present. And they can make pretty large worlds on Wii already, like Monster Hunter or possibly the largest scaled game this generation in Xenoblade. And HD Pikmin and F-Zero would be the same game, the same gameplay with HD graphics. I can't get excited for things like this. What good would HD hardware do for games like Animal Crossing or Mario Kart? They have defined gameplay and defined art styles, the games are already caught in an ever repeating loop - so we continue the loop but this time with better grass effects and rock textures?
I'm more excited about new gameplay that new hardware features can bring like motion, like touch screens or mics, than what Animal Crossing would look like on the PS3.
Exactly.
Vader, Edge, you will just be disappointed. You need to come to terms with the gap between what you want and what Nintendo will actually do. They are an anachronistic, befuddling company.
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D's graphics are so good they "blur the line" between portable and home console visuals.
That's the verdict of Capcom producer Masachika Kawata, who is in charge of the Resident Evil franchise.
The Mercenaries 3D, due out this summer and based on the Resident Evil action mini-game of the same name, is built using Capcom's MT Framework Mobile engine.
"We're very proud of what we've been able to achieve with the hardware," Kawata told Eurogamer. "In our opinion it looks pretty impressive. It's getting to the point where the line between the portable systems and home systems is blurred."
The Mercenaries mini-game first appeared in Resident Evil 3 before popping up in third-person style in home console video games Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.
According to Kawata, when converting to the portable Nintendo 3DS Capcom was able to re-use some of the home console assets.
"When the engine team got the specs for the 3DS they asked, 'Can we make MT Framework move on this thing?'
"They laid the groundwork and got everything moving to the point where we were using some of the same assets from our home console games - and they were working on the 3DS.
"After they laid the groundwork we got the Mercenaries team on there, and they went wild with seeing how far we could go in making the game look great on the 3DS.
"We're very proud of how far we've come with it. It was definitely a big challenge."
Mercenaries 3D, which was playable at Capcom's April Captivate event, is perhaps the best-looking Nintendo 3DS game.
But Kawata said the Nintendo 3DS is capable of much more, hinting at great things from upcoming 3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations.
"We definitely are not using the full power of the 3DS or our engine at this point," he explained. "The engine team, their initial orders were to get it working specifically for Mercenaries.
"If we're talking about a different kind of title that has a different focus – maybe there needs to be more emphasis on graphics – we have every confidence we can implement that in the Framework and also on 3DS.
"You will see even better things coming out on the platform."
Let's hope not:
lol.
After reading all of this, you have convinced me that Nintendo should just stick with the Wii for another 10 years. I do not want better technology powering their games, nor do I want 3rd-parties to be more inclined to partner with them. They could just release a new controller every 4 years so we can control our games differently, instead of a whole new console.
That's not what I'm saying. I will always take better graphics if offered at a reasonable price. All I'm saying is that better hardware will benefit 3rd parties who just want to have as many versions of their games on as many platforms as possible.
With a lot of Nintendo franchises, they are not geared towards tech, they are geared towards gameplay and many franchises are the same design with better visuals and that would be the case with better tech.
Nintendo won't be using the hardware in the way you and Vader want. You want Nintendo to act like a western third party and build their franchises as massive epic, sweeping HD games with Uncharted 2 like production values.
If that's what you expect Nintendo games to be like on a platform with 360 like power you will be disappointed because they will once again, confound expectations and do the best to trample on your desires. By now, anyone who knows Nintendo should know this. Every freaking new Nintendo console it's the same, people suddenly imagine Nintendo in a perfect world doing what they want and expect, and every time they end up disappointed.
I'm a pragmatist, I hope for the best but expect the worst.
"If that's what you expect Nintendo games to be like on a platform with 360 like power you will be disappointed because they will once again, confound expectations and do the best to trample on your desires."
Umm, Nintendo doing that is the best. Half of these epics are boring as hell.
This thread perfectly illustrates my point. Already people are hyping themselves for what an HD Zelda will look like.
Read the first 10 posts, like the other guys say, the OP is expecting a game which looks like God of War 3 or Castlevania Shadow of the Damned. Then someone comes in and posts an HD pic of Wind Waker and says that's what it will look like.
Skyward Sword isn't cel-shaded because of Wii, Vader, they made a realistic zelda on Gamecube with Twilight Princess. It's cel-shaded because Miyamoto was probably petting his puppy whilst gardening and staring at the watercolour on his wall.
Okay, we all know they made it cel-shaded because they said it made it easier to discern attack patterns so you could use motionplus better. But if that is the case and if we assume Nintendo is going to have "better than Move" controller tech, what's going to change their attitude about using cartoon visuals to help users with motion control in the future?
All I'm saying is - don't get your hopes up.
And this is why you people should never visit Kotaku again, like I stopped doing years ago
Wrong game, fool.
And yes, Skyward Sword is cel shaded because they wanted it to be. Twilight Princess wasn't because they didn't want it to be. Whatever art style they choose for the next one will have little to do with the power of the system it will be on. Plenty series were going for realism in the last gen and even the one before that. Anyway, I'll just be glad Nintendo games will be more jaggy free. Other than that, Wii games can look superb already, especially since few have frame rate (many being 60 fps) or tearing issues and the like...
Twilight Princess, being a GameCube game, was hardly the best Wii could do without cel shading anyway. Some PS2 games like Metal Gear Solid 2 do better with such art styles. Yet we never saw much close to that even though the Wii could push more polygons and of course have way better textures since the PS2 had a pitiful amount of RAM even for its generation. On Wii, Monster Hunter Tri certainly looks better than Twilight Princess. Of course the world is segmented rather than seamless but that's, in my opinion, a design decision not based on system specifications. They could always mask the loading like in Metroid Prime (loading doors) or even Mario style (the face fade-out/in) anyway, they just didn't. Capcom's Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes also looks superb without having so segmented levels. Of course it has pop-in and other issues but then it's a game that tries to push a ton of enemies on screen, unlike Zelda or Monster Hunter. Really, I don't think Wii came even close to being maxed out outside games like Super Mario Galaxy which are dismissed for their style.

LOL, I hate Kotaku.
They used to have scripts which would freeze my browser. Now whenever I click a Kotaku link it takes me to their front page loaded will all sorts of stories.
Did they ever announce if the 360 was getting an exclusive character for MK like the PS3 got Kratos?
