Forbes writing about Gabe Newell is funny. It's like they are describing a man who has invented something as foreign as a time machine. "Hey Maude, check this guy out -- he invented steam or something -- some kinda 'storefront'."
"Newell’s Steam Web storefront accounts for 70% of the digital distribution market for videogames."
Gabe Newell is the man.
I'm currently readin Darkly Dreaming Dexter. It is excellent. Vader, it's set in Miami so you might wanna check it out. There's also a TV show based on the book. What's that name agin...it's on the tip of my tongue.
Darkly Dreaming perhaps?
Shit I got back to DS after reaching rock god status, and now I'm getting my ass handed down to me unceremoniously. And just when I finally beat that fucking blue dragon, some fucking asshole invaded me and killed me.
Dick.
Sure. I'll try answer as much as I can. If you've got questions, lemme know.
I played a demo version of the game - presumably the opening 30 minutes or so. Game controls mostly like your standard platformer - complete with a Mario Galaxy esque spin attack. The paint & thinner mechanic works really well - thinning out and painting parts of the world to move through feels good - though I didn't see anything too complex with this stuff. Admittedly, it was more the early stuff, so I'd love to see some of the puzzles involving the mechanic later on.
Probably the weakest part of the demo was the "moral choice" put in. Specifically, I had the choice to either save a dude or gain a lot of treasure. I chose to save the guy, and I liked how I wasn't told I was the antichrist for not saving the dude, or that I was the best person in the world for saving him, which was really refreshing. Course, I'd love to see the consequence if I didn't save him, but that was in a later part in the game. I'd be interested to see what more of the choices are like, and whether or not they play a huge role.
Best part though? All the awesome obscure Disney stuff put in. During the intro, after Mickey cocks up and accidentally summons the Phantom Blot, you can clearly hear "The Sorcerors Apprentice" playing, which was fantastic. Hell, after the choice i mentioned above, the next part saw me enter a 2D level based on an old Mickey short - specifically, Mickey & The Beanstalk. Wasn't too great of a level, but I was able to pick up an item that unlocks the short in the full game. Although I'm not sure if it's the full thing, or a clip, it'd be bloody fantastic if it was the former. That was where the demo ended though. Though on a personal nitpick - was kinda weird playing as the older version of Mickey Mouse and constantly seeing images of the version we're all familiar with.
Generally looks great - I love the visual style that the Junction Point dudes are going for, taking a more...gothic (kinda Tim Burton-esque) take on Disney. Didn't get to hear much of the sound (thanks the TV being super low), but it generally sounded decent enough.
Was quite impressed, and I'd get it if I had the means. Questions?
You rule Homer, I figured as much that the reward would come with the Disney tie-ins.

Hecker: I stand by my Wii is Shit rant
"If I had known it was going to get covered in the mass market press as opposed to just development press, I would have chosen my works more carefully. But I didn't. It was obviously my opinion, not the Spore team's opinion.
"The Wii is a piece of sh*t and it's two GameCubes duct taped together are quotable quotes, and I should have chosen my words more carefully with at least some of them.
"I wasn't thinking that because E3 closed down there would be a lot of people sniffing around for news stories in the mainstream press. It never used to be like that at GDC.
"But then aiming the article for maximum headline controversy, that's journalism's issue.
"In more ways than people even know, that night was the Electronic Arts and Nintendo executive dinner. They were announcing a joint venture for the first time. It was disastrous. It was awful.
Wow, LOL that must have been a comfortable dinner.
I wonder who picked up the cheque?

Uncharted 3 influence by Ico? Ah crap. I hope it doesn't catch the boredom.
Naw, you don't want to feel like me!
But I've been pretty sick this weekend. But I'm feeling better now. Nothing but a common cold and maybe a slight flu.
As for what I was playing? Not much. Just God of War Ghost of Sparta.

I'd rather it be influenced by Uncharted 2.
After catching wind of the company's plan to trademark the groan inducing pop culture phrase, he did a two minute segment on the matter on the Colbert Report. During his report, Colbert claimed Nintendo was going to file other trademark claims on Nintendo-related phrases, specifically "Don't front like Duck Hunt", "Bring the painia like Castlevania" (okay, that's Konami but it's still funny), and "Nah, I don't really feel like playing Kirby's Adventure" (even on Comedy Central the pink puff gets no respect!).
He also said he was emulating Nintendo strategy, and would soon be squatting on the rights to phrases "no one uses anymore". Colbert plans to trademark "all that and a bag of chips" and then sell the rights to Frito Lay, and well as "You go, girl!" to Depends adult undergarments.
