There was a story that had figures in it I think last week. Square-Enix released their financials -- maybe that was where I saw it. Pretty sure PS3 outsold 360. If you go into last-weeks issue of GGWeekly and Ctrl-F for Square or Financials you may find it.
So it was a win-win situation for both SE and 360 fans.

I'm going to try and find those numbers, just out of curiosity.
Well, Here is the first month sales:
According to an early statement from Sony Computer Entertainment, the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII "sold nearly double the Xbox version." In actual numbers, that broke down to 828,200 copies of the game snapped up by those in the Sony camp and 494,300 who preferred the Xbox 360 version. A win for Sony, but also a good showing for Microsoft, who snatched console exclusivity from the PlayStation side in 2008.
To compare, the last entry in the main Final Fantasy series, PlayStation 2 game Final Fantasy XII sold 896,000 copies during its first month of release in the U.S. in November 2006.

That new Xbox really is a nice looking machine. I think MS did a much better job than Sony in the SLIMming wars.
I can list at least 6 advantages the new Xbox has over the original:
This is in contrast to the new PS3 which is actually WORSE than the old PS3. Well done. BTW I'm definitely getting the Halo: Reach Bundle. Already paid for!
Interesting. It sold less as just a Playstation game than FF12, but MORE when you add in the Xbox sales, am I right?
I'm very surprised the PS3 version outsold the Xbox version in America. Didn't think the FF fanbase was still so attatched to Sony. Makes me wonder if Lost Odyssey would have sold better if it was also on PS3.
I think they should have changed the power LED from Green to Red, just for kicks.
I corrected my post, because the 896,000 copies for the first month of FF12 was less than the 1.3 million total for first month of FF13.
I think most people who had a choice between the Sony and MS versions chose the Sony so they did not get the compressed cutscenes and multiple discs -- at least that is why I picked it.
Good point.
I wonder why they had to compress video even using multiple discs. Maybe they should have used 3 discs or 4 like Lost Odyssey.
"The PS3 version is a whopping 38GB in size with uncompressed cutscenes. The Xbox version on the other hand is 3 DVDs in size, which still only presents the title in a 18GB format…of which something had to be squeezed or cut." Sez this guy: http://www.watchmojo.com/blog/video_games/2010/03/01/xbox-360-to-dominate-final-fantasy-xiii-sales/
Those be some serious cutscenes! I guess that's why they look like Advent Children...
Call me crazy but I kind of like it. But you're right, it is horrible, but it's still oddly fun to play.
Did this game really put Iga's job status at Konami in danger? I hear this game sold like 3,700 copies in Japan! That's awful. I wonder how it sold here in the states...probably less than that!

Yeah the 360 Slim is definitely a very sexy redesign for the system. The thing with the PS3 Slim is that they had to rush it to help bring the price down thereby making it more of a 'strip-down'. It wouldn't surprise me to see a 'better' version of the PS3 Slim some time in the future.
Of course Lost Odyssey would have sold better as a multiplatform title, even +1 more sale = better sales. Still though it was in Microsoft's best interests to have it as an exclusive to help diversify the gaming library of their machines both now and for the future. It has certainly benefitted them greatly when you compare the 360's library to that of the original Xbox.
The sales for Final Fantasy XIII was pretty much what I expected between the PS3 and 360 and the 360 version sold pretty favourably, certainly making it worth going multiplatform. It kind of irks me a bit because I feel that sometimes companies just play a waiting game to get some money thrown their way when in some cases they probably would have wanted to make a game multiplatform anyway. Hard to blame them on the other hand since it's just a good business move financially.
I didn't have a PS3 when I picked up FFXIII so my choice was easy but I still would have picked up the 360 version. Unless there are some real substantial differences between versions I'll always go with the 360 one. There's usually a bunch of various little reasons and preferences as to why but also I've been gaming longer this gen on it so over time I feel like I have more 'invested' with it and my 360 profile. Of course over time that same feeling will grow with me for the PS3.

I thought it was Modern Warfare 2!
Except for that funky remote control car bomb...what the hell?
The cross bow looks cool though, like Rambo!
But I guess in the case with Call of Duty, more of the same is what Activision is best at doing.
