If she were on our podcast I would have destroyed her. Is she entitled to her opinion, of course, but she spends like 2 minutes on the most idiotic point and no one really challenges her. My first response to her saying its too cartoony would be "what did you expect, its a Mario game". Then I would ask "what do you want it too look like". And then if she goes on about how its too kiddie for her I would basically say then "why play it?" I would have gotten to the real question faster than Adam, "WHAT ABOUT THE GAME", if she thinks it is more of the same that is fine. That is more in line with how an experienced gamer should react to a game. The way she presents her viewpoint is one where some dumb insignificant aspect has bothered her so much that she can't get over it and talk about the game and when it comes to discussing games I do not want to hear from someone like that.

Um no they are not giving a professional it's her personal opinion and she couldn't get into the game because it was something she out grew. There's nothing you can "destroy" her on about that comment, period.

How in the world is a game being "too cartoony" for one's taste to be able to get into a dumb insignificant comment? Answer, it's not. There's been games that you have said that while you can see how it's a great game and that you understand how people can like it there are certain aspects of it that make the game unappealing to you. Saying otherwise is a load of bullshit and hypocritical.

Sometimes there comes a time in a franchise that you just feel like moving so simply saying, "Oh well it's Mario, what did you expect" isn't a catch-all answer. She's obviously moved on. Again I say, So what? She's clearly not bashing the game they are just sitting around chatting wondering what each other actually feel about the game.

This is NOT the same as going into Disney cartoon movie and being disappointed it wasn't live action. This is more akin to going into a Disney cartoon movie and being disappointed it's theme was to child oriented.

It is the same as the Disney example cause Mario being childish has nothing to do with the actual game, it is just something external that is bothering her, it is the equivalent of just complaining about the animation. If she actually explained how it being childish hurt the game itself, maybe she thought it was too easy, then it would be like discussing the theme. Mario being cartoony is not an aspect of the game, its just the style of Mario. It's like complaining that Mickey to cartoony, he should be a real mouse. All she is doing is complaining about the surface, its the equivalent of a graphics whore. Yes she is entitled to her opinion and I am not disputing that it makes it unappealing to her, I am saying its a stupid reason to complain about a game. If I were on a podcast with her I would flat out say "that is a stupid", don't bring that weak crap to an actual discussion about a game.

Now I do think for her it goes deeper than it looks too cartoony but she doesn't get into that, I bet there is more to her reasoning. In the end she is probably like Steel, maybe she just doesn't care about these games anymore. All she gave us though was what was shown in the video. I know if I decided to have a discussion about Super Mario Galaxy 2 and someone said "It was too cartoony" I would look at them like they were an alien, probably followed by "no fucking shit genius, it's Mario". Clearly they were being nice to her and letting her speak but I bet Adam wanted to bang his head on the table.
