Actually all things will eventually die, even black holes
Heh, that's why I always find it funny when the PS2 gets praised as one of the best systems ever. It always felt like it didn't deserve it to me, because of the crap hardware (I went through 4 of them) and the fact that the other two systems were just BETTER, tech-wise.
I always felt it didn't deserve all the great games it got. But it had the image and the brand name. Hell I would have rather had the Dreamcast survive and get a bunch of PS2's support, honestly.
I wonder if failure rates were even tracked back when the 2600 was played. Ultimately I'm not sure how many broke vs. how many were just put away. I don't know too many people who played theirs more than a couple years as the final years of the system were besiged with so much crap software that most people I knew just stopped playing it. Even as kids we knew that Pac-Man and E.T. for the Atari completely sucked.
PS2 was very much like the Wii in that it was a "right time/right place" kind of console. People wanted a DVD player and here comes the Playstation 2 that's as cheap as most other DVD players AND it plays games. That's a no-brainer!! Had the X-box launched a year earlier or the Gamecube launched with a DVD player Sony never would have run away with the market like they did. Still would have likely been the #1 console and probably still killed the Dreamcast, but it never would have had 65% market share.
Looking at the games coming out this upcoming year across all platforms, I think the 360 has the weakest lineup out of them all when you factor in multi-platform games. The PS3 is getting most of the 3rd-party stuff that 360 is getting, plus Sony has a great lineup of exclusives this year. 360 doesn't seem to have much interesting stuff in the exclusives camp. All in all the 360 has a lot of great stuff coming, yet most of it is also available elsewhere.
X360 has Halo Reach, Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell (I doubt it'll stay exclusive) and some interesting Live games exclusive in the console space. But PS3 has God Of War 3, GT 5, The Last Guardian, White Knight, Agent from Rockstar, Heavy Rain, Yakuza 3, etc....on top of the multi-platforms.
I think the Wii has a stronger lineup this year, shockingly....provided the games that are coming do indeed deliver. Obviously it doesn't have the multi-platform stuff, but it has a high-quality stable of exclusives coming that even Sony can't really match.
I mean Metroid looks great, Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii....then big RPG's like Last Story from Mistwalker and Xenoblade from Monolith that Wii desperately needs. No More Heroes 2 just came out to great reviews. Monster Hunter 3, Red Steel 2, Epic Mickey, Fragile Dreams, Arc Rise Fantasia, Sin and Punishment 2.....its a hell of a list of exclusives. If Wii had all the multi-platform games too I'd call it a complete victory.
Good point....the DVD player was a huge deal. Sony foolishly thought they could recapture that with the Blu-ray player I think. Maybe they would have if they didn't sell it for DOUBLE the price of the competition. PS2 succeeded on that front because it was priced what it was expected to be priced, like the DVD player wasn't even there.
I wasn't saying that Flips looked good, I mean visually it looks okay. But it almost looks like that Chinese Mario Galaxy rip. Only more polished. It looks okay, but it will all be about how it controls to me. Still worried about metroid.
Now he looks like he's rockin' from the future.

Mass Effect 2 First Week Sales Top 2 Million
Wow
Indeed. They were saying on the VGPress podcast how the first one sold 400K in the first month and how they thought this would do the same (what with it coming out in January and all).
But that thing has been advertised to hell from what I've heard.
Well keep in mind that the 2 million are WW numbers and 360 and PC version combined. Plus this could be more of the shipped vs sold BS we get all the time. Like with Fallout 3, so I remain a bit sceptical until I see NPD numbers. But either way it did well and deserve the sales.
Pah, those podcast nerds.
You must have one of the mini's. The Woodies and Darths don't have them.
You did one too fucker. Don't you forget that. You're one of us now.
Fuck no! ^
With its retro style, it’s practical use of the classic controller, and it’s more-than-amazing boss battles, Desperate Struggle is yet another masterpiece from the Quentin Tarantino of video games: Suda 51. Attention all devs everywhere: this is how a sequel is made.
How is it we can get 3 Dead to rights games and not one new Shadow Dancer game?
Day-aaaam Euro guys.
Check out the new Endless Ocean 2 video on the Nintendo channel.

Damnit, Game better deliver in time or I'll go nuts.

Yup, I has a Jr.
Because Shadow Dancer sucked.
Classy.
