I hate everything right now, damn Dolphins. Who knows how long I will be bummed out. The game I am playing now is Deadly Creatures, that is not a cheer you up game.
Arrrrrrrrrrrgghhhhh.
This will make you happy then. Apparently, the notes of a meeting with Sega and SCEA was leaked, and GAF has the full thing. Now, I'm extremely fucking skeptical of everything here, but if at least half of this is true, I think a lot of people are going to be VERY happy.
SCEA Meeting Aug 5th Notes
Aug 6 2009 – DRAFT FOR COMMENTS
Objectives of Meeting
Dyer agreed to regular quarterly meetings with SOA
Sony PS3
SCEA reiterated plans to sell 13 million PS3s this year
Big announcement back half of year they can’t talk about (potentially price cut of PS3 to reach hardware goals)
SCEA commented on indexing between PS3 and 360 SKUs, should be around 2:1 to garner most favorable treatment.
Motion Controller
Spring 2010 launch (March in JP)
No bundle/pricing details yet, should come Sept 1
Plan on selling 4-5MM units WW
SCEA agreed to provide a list of Sega IP that would work well with the motion controller, Virtua Tennis was an example
Motion Controller support allows easy way to differentiate PS3 SKU
Other differentiation opportunities include PSP/PS3 interoperability – think of features that would make users want to buy both PS3 and PSP SKUs.
Alpha Protocol
Michael Foster, product evaluator, said AP felt barely RPG. Initial level too challenging for players. “Mass Effect felt more RPG.”
Review notes sent to John Merlino a few weeks prior. After meeting Gerald mentioned AP is a high priority for his team.
Planet 51
Sell in of PS3 SKU – SCEA noted that other movie titles on PS3 had underperformed as well (inc. Transformers) this cycle.
Dyer suggests contacting Susan at Walmart and asking what she wants in the pack to sell this SKU (movie tix etc)
Other possibilities are Hybrid movie disc (BD 25 or 50 with Game and Movie on same disc).
Bayonetta
Collectors edition with Bayonetta Action Figure
Novo recommended launching PSN demo around Xmas based off a Jan 5th Ship date with 2-3 week run out to launch.
3-4 weeks is usually ideal demo timing with fresh content every week leading up to launch (trailers, insider video about PG heritage, video blogs).
Vancouver 2010
HOME, Olympic destination would garner a lot of positive attention from SCEA
Should be doing same with Bayonetta, Marvel etc. Easy to launch in all territories.
HOME merchandizing opportunities (clothes etc).
Sonic Racing
Open to DLC to differentiate PS3 SKU – not ratchet and clank but other characters
maybe characters from Rare or Fable universes
Yakuza
Could put Japanese games directly on PSN for download in a special Japanese Import section (pricing $9.99 to $39.99 for full game).
Might need to localize menus at least with subtitles.
SCEA interested in helping on MKTG side if they can have period of exclusivity.
AVP
Another great HOME candidate
AVP avatars
Hybrid BD disc with movie
Iron Man 2
Great candidate for HOME space – explore Tony Stark’s lab etc.
Should have one for Marvel in general.
PSU2
Could do bundle at GameStop with PSP 30-35K units on UMD, Go, or both.
Valkyria 1937
Could bundle with PSP as well.
Vanquish and Aliens: CM
Opportunity for PS3/PSP interoperability (see Eidos Batman, Army of Two, Assassin’s Creed for good examples).
If we offer that SCEA would be really interested in having us at their booth next E3.
Thor
SCEA would like a look at the code soon.
Sonic Anniversary
Could put out collectors edition with all old sonic games on one BD disc.
“Best of Sonic” for around $99.
SCEA would love PSN exclusive power ups/different game modes (like Castlevania’s flip it over/backwards)
PS2 emulator for PS3 (confidential)
SCEA wants to sell all PS2 titles on PSN (GTA Vice City/Sonic/etc)
For co Marketing money show PS3 controller on TV ads – similar to EA Madden Spots, NCAA, etc…
London Olympics
Perfect opportunity for Motion Controller integration.
DC Digital Titles
If we provide a list of DC titles SCEA will let us know which ones they’re interested in having exclusively.
If we give them a long period of exclusivity they’ll give us more marketing support.
PSP Titles
For SKU differentiation it’s best to offer features that are slightly different from PS3 version.
Titles that are coming up on PSP are Assassin’s Creed II, GTA China Wars, Resident Evil, Little Big Planet – all massive franchises.
SCEA has a specific PSP deck which they can send up with their hardware director for a chat.
Yeah you are so right about the old police stations with ornate woodwork and green lamps. Love that stuff. The characters in RE5 though, it really didn't help that Chris was so different and that Jill had blonde hair and was hidden under a mask for most of it. I actually wanted to see Wesker on the center stage as in games like CV he only popped up mysteriously. But sadly he became less mystical and more like a common villain you see in any comic/cartoon. He needs a better motivation.
Yeah, the SNES version. In europe, not sure about the US.
I haven't read the new updates but I posted a story either yesterday on on the weekend that said motionplus was completely OUT and that classic controller support was in.
Cutest cat, ever.
Patrick: JU-ON: The Grudge's developer feelplus is mostly known for working on RPGs (Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean: The Last Hope). This is quite a big change for them. How did they feel about tackling the horror genre and was their anything they learned from working on RPGs that they applied to the JU-ON the game.
Que?
Not true.
SCEA wants to sell all PS2 titles on PSN (GTA Vice City/Sonic/etc)
For co Marketing money show PS3 controller on TV ads – similar to EA Madden Spots, NCAA, etc…"
This was the first whiff of bulshit I got form the "leaked SEGA / SCEA memo".
SCEA wants to sell PS2 BC and the second franchise they mention is Sonic? Go fuck yerselfs, what Sonic game came out on the PS2 that was worth a damn?
Hamster Propaganda.
Goichi Suda Interview
1UP: You mentioned once that No More Heroes 2 would be the last game in the series on Wii. Have you done any experiments on what it might be like on another platform, especially with the new motion controllers that have been announced for other systems?
GS: Actually, I answered differently, and it may have been misinterpreted. What I wanted to say was, looking at the Wii, I think No More Heroes 2 will probably be the last iteration for this current platform. But there's probably going to be a "Wii 2" or other next-gen system from Nintendo at some point, so I was saying that I would want to do another game in the series on the next Nintendo platform.
I want to continue the No More Heroes series, but I've finished the story for Travis. It's completely finished in No More Heroes 2. So I want to think of a different story -- a different character, or something like that within the series -- starting on the next Nintendo platform.
It was EDGE that he initially said he was done with the Wii. I'm cool with his retraction, hopefully it is a sign that the Wii2 is coming in 2011.
I think we may have all misquoted him. He said that NMH2 would be the last NMH game on Wii. Then he was asked about and commented on new motion controllers on other systems, so we (journalists included) all concluded that he was moving it to other platforms, when that wasn't what he was inferring.
I think it must have been his enthusiasm for Natal "I want to think about games with Natal in mind" that led us to believe this.
He makes it pretty darn clear above that the series would continue on the next Nintendo system.
HD Wii confirmed! Pachter vindicated.
Updates done.
It seems that Spyborgs has been getting 65% - 75% reviews. I wonder how Capcom is going to respond when this game doesn't sell?
IGN review You me and the Cubes
You create them by shaking the Wii Remote in your hand. You point the cursor to a spot on a cube floating on your screen, then fling them onto it with a flick of your wrist. You watch, then, as your newborn creations struggle to maintain their balance upon the twisting, tilting structure. If they do, you win. If they don't, they die.
See? Simple.
And simple is also satisfying, as You, Me & The Cubes proves to be an incredibly effective puzzler that captures your interest right from the start. It's just about maintaining the balance on the cube by accurately assessing how to distribute weight around its center of gravity. You place one Fallo on the left side, then another on the right. They offset each other's weight, and the cube stays balanced. Easy enough, and especially so since you always throw Fallos in pairs.
Closing Comments
Since the introduction of the WiiWare digital distribution model, Nintendo has published a handful of impressive puzzlers under the first-party banner -- Maboshi's Arcade, Art Style: Orbient, Cubello and Rotohex have each arrived and set a strong precedent for quirky, inventive and visually distinct puzzling action on the service. You, Me & The Cubes is the latest addition to this lineup, and it may well be the best of the bunch thus far.
The core concept is immediately engaging, but the game doesn't restrict itself to just the limits of its original idea -- it expands upon the initial gameplay of just placing your little pseudo-humans in balanced positions on floating cubes, and introduces depth-building additional elements like enemies, surfaces with altered properties and co-operative play. What results is a 10 dollar download that works wonderfully both as a thoughtful escape for a single player, and also as a frantic new Nintendo way to partner with (or fight against) a friend.
And you've got to love the Fallos. There may have never been a more pitiable virtual people than these poor souls, forever doomed to live in constant fear of death by spinning cube.
8.5
I kind of like the Safari Wii game. It doesn't look near as good as the PS3 photo safari game, but I just enjoy these kinds of games, going back to Pokemon Snap.
Spyborgs. . . anyone not see this coming? I think we need a thread in the forums where we all take bets on what Capcom's excuse will be or where they will place the blame. Bad hardware? Audience that doesn't buy 3rd party games? Miyamoto is talking trash?
Dvader, is this how you want Endless Ocean?
You philistine.
A person called a Philistine (in the relevant sense), is said to despise or undervalue art, beauty, intellectual content, and/or spiritual values. Philistines are also said to be materialistic, to favor conventional social values unthinkingly, and to favour forms of art that have a cheap and easy appeal (e.g. kitsch).
The safari game is based on an old SEGA arcade game where you chase and lasso animals. No photo taking that I know of. It looks pretty meh but there is something about it that at least makes me check it out every now and then.
As for Spyborgs I was going to do a thread like that a week ago. I mean just today Eurogamer 5/10 it, other sites give it like 65% and even NPower give it a generous 75.
I'm going to be interested in Capcom's reaction to this game. They'll defend it's quality, they almost have to.
You know sociological anthropologists have actually proven that this word is incorrect. Philestines were actually a cultured society and had their own arts, philosphies, etc. The ancient Hewbrews, enemies of the Philistines, were the ones that created this word in its current meaning, and were actually much less cultured than the nation that they were criticizing. Just an interesting bit of trivia for you.
Are you sure about that? A lot of those screen shots look like they're looking through a camera lens. Or is that just supposed to be a telescope or something?
Interesting.... but Dvader is still an uncultured brute.
I'm not totally sure as I'm unfamiliar with the arcade game but the preview I read didn't mention it. Try checking out the eurogamer preview.
