No, it's my huge balls erasing accidentally the stories.
Red Steel costs are very important as that is currently one of the, if not the highest budgeted 3rd party Wii game and an original ground up core game to boot. That's why it's so pertinent to use as an example. You can compare its cost to next gen games and it still comes out very favourably. It means that financially and in sales terms there are few reasons not to try.
Your excuse for Capcom's coverage is pretty lame by my standards. They want to do this so they can? So I want to complain, so I can. So it's okay for Ubisoft to heap a whole load of shovelware anywhere they want, their money their releases, okay fine?
The issue is that Capcom have fans, they have consumers, you have people owning different systems and they aren't servicing the people who have put money into their titles on one system over the other. When Capcom have the gall to call it a test and then follow through on the tests with "another test" it becomes little more than a joke to a lot of people.
The issue with this whole vision argument is that most people's vision is the same game we've played before with more detailed graphics (Hello RE5!). And then pretending that you can only do shit like CTYD or other shovelware on Xbox level hardware. It's just not true, that's not a good excuse. You can make great looking and playing games on Xbox level hardware, otherwise you can just write off the whole PS2 generation as what? As crap?
It's true that Nintendo didn't bring out a machine comparable in power, and if it did you would see publishers bringing titles across for the simple reason that publishers (rightfully so) want to whore out their game on as many platforms as possible. They want what's easiest. But then the argument becomes whether Wii would have been as instantly successfull with more powerful hardware at a higher price? So what now becomes of all the arguments that Wii only sold because it's cheap?
"I see very very very few third-parties bringing their main franchise games over to the Wii and the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Dragon Quest. Where's Soulcalibur IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, Tekken 6, Final Fantasy XIII, etc. If people want to play these games then they'll either have to do without or get a 360/PS3."
Yes that's very true, I don't disagree, what's there to disagree with? Off the top of my head I can name Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Tales Mothership title, Dragonquest 10, Dead Space. Japanese companies mostly, then I guess you can add Sonic Call of Duty et al. Otherwise it's pretty much side projects or exclusive smaller games.
Again where is SC4? A multiplatform game that again sold as much as single platform game on Wii, We Ski for instance. I'm not disagreeing that there isn't a fuckton of content not on Wii, I'm arguing that given the hardware, given the unprecedented success, you should be seeing a lot more effort and resources allocated to wii development. The excuses have run dry and if all that's left is the vision argument in an era when every publisher is losing millions of dollars and cutting half its workforce.... well.
One last thing to think about, when companies decide to copy Nintendo on Wii, why do they always choose Wii Fit or Wii Sports and not Zelda or Mario Galaxy? Both those games have sold millions of copies, but it's easier to slap together something cheap - because that't what they can get away with. I just thought that game designers were more creative then this.
EDIT:
Plus you got to think about the recent games that have underperformed, Mirror's Edge, Banjo Nuts and Bolts, Prince of Persia, hell Littlebigplanet. You are seeing some games running away with success, Call of Duty, Fallout 3, Gears 2. But that's not the same situation for all games and when BIG budgeted games underperform that spells trouble for publishers like EA for instance. So this desire for bigger and bigger and more complex games is damaging some sections of the industry too.
Lair bombs? Bye bye Factor 5. Haze bombs? Bye bye Free Radical? Ensemble gets closed before their game is out? As does the Force Unleashed team? Lucasarts sweep one game away from FR and that's them into administration?
Didn't mean to annoy you. Feel free to do the same with my updates. Without the delete option, where is Punk anyway? It's the only option and --------------- doesn't look so bad in grey I thought.
Just been reading the MERCs review.
This is not what MERCS looks like:
Was there a Master System version? Eh?
Oh thank god this place is back, I was lost without it yesterday.
So lets see Sonic trailer (fuck you too Steel
) still blows me away, whatever Sega is doing with the wii should be noticed by all third party devs. Excellent engine.
Top 10 LBP levels, played some of them but I need to try out those other ones, so many levels.
Best RE games as voted by readers of IGN, RE4 #1 of course, RE2 #2 of course. But CV under RE3, shocking.
Killzone 2 GI review, ok, not making me all excited or anything, maybe better to get expectations in check for this game.
Did you guys see the GI article on GoW3, oh man that game is going to be sick.
Robio and Mozart at GS have Deadly Creatures and are sharing impressions, they both like it a lot, especially the atmosphere and creepiness of it all. Isn't this a Wii biased site, come on lets get impressions.
Well I'm done because frankly I don't care. I don't care that the Wii has sold more systems because I want my Resident Evil 5's, Devil May Cry 4's, Street Fighter IV's, Final Fantasy XIII's, etc., etc., all looking better on the 360/PS3 instead of downgraded on the Wii. I bought my Wii as a secondary console to play Nintendo games and for the VC pretty much everything else I'll get on the 360/PS3. I'm very happy with the current state myself. While I certainly like to see the developers who make games I enjoy stay in business I'd rather support them by buying games for the more powerful systems because that is what I prefer.
I don't see any problem at all if a developer's vision is simply to have a game looking as good as possible. Also I don't think my defense of Capcom is lame at all it's their freakin' game, their time, their money, they can do what ever they damn well please. You don't like the games they put out on the Wii then don't buy them. You're right though you can complain all you want but I certainly won't share the same sentiments. I'm glad they are putting their resources to making games where they are in fact if I had it my way I'd want them to spend more resources on the 360/PS3. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
Sonic engine looks great, this is the effort I would ask in production values on the system from a 3rd party. At least godamn try, it shouldn't be left to small devs like High Voltage or a small THQ team to push a console tech wise. So Code Veronica came under RE3? Whart?
Killzone GI review is pretty good, a 9/10 and 8.75. I think if you hype it as some revolutionary shooter, of course you will be in for a disappointment but it looks like a high quality game. I would get this for sure. GOW3 looks great, I love the ground textures in that one pic and the skeletons as well.
As for Deadly Creatures, I never felt an affinity for playing as insects and would most likely get Tenchu or HOTD instead. I just picked up three games since yesterday. I want to see what the Darkness is like. Can you post over Robio and Mozart's impressions? And tell Mozart to get his ass over here too? He was at 1up for a while but we lost touch.
Just played some more Sam and Max, the driving sections have horrendous slowdown. Not only that all the old pitfalls of Graphic adventures are there. A pixel sized item that blends in with the background was the key to moving forward? Ugh.
And this really painful, free association psychological test which was..... ugh.
I have not read anything in this argument until this last post, but i agree with it. I much rather have all the big time franchises on the HD consoles cause I feel like they are advancing and not stuck in time.
The Wii for me is for different types of game, the games that can only be done on the wii. And Nintendo games of course.
PM him, its not like you dont have a GS account.
Here are Robio's impressions:
I picked up the game last night and have spent a couple hours with it already, and so far everything I've read in the review is a pretty fair and accurate. It's a completely original concept, with a mood and atmosphere that's rarely seen, but suffers from the gameplay. Had the devs spent another month tightening up the control it would have been a lot better, but after 3 months of delays I'm sure they were under pressure get it out particularly given THQ's current financial woes. I would have given it an 8, but 7.5 isn't far off. Your ultimate opinion of the game will be formed by which you find more important; gameplay or concept and mood/atmosphere.
The controls mind you aren't bad. There's never been a point where I got in trouble for not pulling off a move just right, but there's just a little too much lag when using the waggle attacks, and some of the scorpion's combo attacks can get a little frustrating because of that. But there are still some neat attacks using the pointer so it's fair to say they used the Wiimote well enough.
But the real draw to the game is just the concept itself. If you're at all uneasy around bugs or spiders then this will probably rank up there as one of the scariest games you've ever played. It's gruesome at times and you never known when something is going to sneak up from behind you. The environments are great, and the music is real ominous. The mood it creates seems downright evil at time. The background story between the two criminals is really cool. GS definitely hit the mark when they said that there's not enough of it and you'll want more. Still, the drama between the tarantula and scorpion is enough to keep things going.
So I won't recommend everyone buy this game, but if you're one of those people who complains that there's not enough original ideas out there you need to at least rent this.
Mozart's Impressions:
I bought the game yesterday and have played through the first three chapters. I have severe arachophobia, so I was worried it would be difficult for me to play, but my fear of spiders actually just adds to the atmosphere of the game, especially when I am playing the Tarantula.
I am amazed at what they were able to do in this game on the Wii. Most of the visual presentation is superb. They make very good use of the Wiimote as well with the combo moves.
Updates done!!
Wow that took a while!
Awesome job, yesterday I was lost without them.
I wasn't annoyed! Punk is at Gaf, he has been replaced by Edge. Better question where is Travo and Lord Andrew?
I could not do updates yesterday, so I did 2 day worth of updates today.
P.S. do some of you own a PSP?! I am posting lots of PSP news, was wondering if someone was using it!
Sweet. I'm all for an Alien vs. Predator game. Too bad Alien: Colonial Marines sounds like it won't make a 2009 release.
No I don't have a PSP. I was kind of interested in getting one but I have enough on my plate right now so I doubt I'll ever get one plus I really don't follow it news wise much at all.
Nice Riddick pics, can't wait for that.
God Of War 3 looks totally badass. Should be the PS3's first truly AAA 1st-party game.
Played the MLB 09 demo. Basically the same as last year's game, but its good.
I have Tenchu but didn't play it yet. Been sick as hell the last few days so I haven't done much of anything. But I'm still engulfed in The Witcher when I have been gaming. The game is just as deep and epic as you want from an RPG, and the main character, Geralt, is a total badass.
The Witcher also has the best "drunk simulator" I've ever seen, hahaha. Look up some vids---its like you really ARE drunk. You start seeing double and you stumble around, its great. Really pretty graphics too. I guess it was built on the Mass Effect engine and the world is just beautiful. Its hard to say where the game falls in my favorite RPG's, but as of right now its definitely up there with Mass Effect, Oblivion, and Lost Odyssey.
