Speaking of Mortal Kombat, I can remember there was a huge debate about how it looked and which console would have the better version.  SNES had the cleaner, smoother version, but Genesis had blood.  I remember playing the Genesis version at a friend's house and telling him the character models looked like Pac-Man's puke.

LOL The Genesis version was kinda rough looking, but I wouldn't go quite that far.

The Sega CD version kicked all kinds of ass, though! CD quality music, clear voice samples/sound effects, arcade-like animation, and no blood code required! The load times weren't too bad either. Well, except for Shang Tsung's morphs; those were slooooow as hell to load. I think it was the best port of the game to home consoles at that time. Happy

I've never really been a system fanboy.  Ever since the 16 bit era I've owned 2 consoles, and while currently I only own a Wii if the PS3 were cheaper I'd probably pick one up. I can't even say I've consistantly preferred Nintendo because the PS1 and PS2 were my first choices in their respective generations.  I will say that I have never owned either version of the Xbox and its unlikely that I ever will.  To this day Microsoft in my living room just feels wrong.

However there are certainly games that I've been fanboy over.  For some reason unbeknownst to even myself I will defend any Dragon Quest game all day long.  Ever since its reintroduction to North America with DW VII, I have championed its superiority to Final Fantasy, which I now consider to be the series that represents everything that is wrong in gaming today.

Prior to that I would debate how much better Dragon Quest Monsters was than Pokemon (you want to get into a nasty conversation - try and logically explain to a Pokemon fan why Pokemon is not a great game).

And I suppose I had my share of times touting Street Fighter as the superior fighting game, though most of the debates I had were SF Alpha vs. Tekken 2.  Very violent debates that nearly created gang wars in the game room in my college.

What college was that?  I'm scared of it now. Nyaa

I've always owned 2 consoles from different companies, apart from handhelds although back in the gameboy era I did sample many game gear and even some atari lynx titles too.

Most of my fanboy moments still occur but not really in the fanboy way I suppose.

I get riled up when games or systems or developers dont get the recognition they deserve or when close minded gamers, irritating, irrational people such as my brother dismiss things summarily. For instance when I was playing Broken Sword he snobbily berated it for being dated and so old - hence unplayable and like it was some sort of joke for me to play it.

So much so that I had to turn it off because he has no appreciation for these things.

Or people who frame arguments based on personal taste without qualifying their arguments or statements.

Graphics whores hack me off too as I can play pixellated DS games or Genesis titles and still find beauty there.

I'm generally a "live and let live" guy but when others tell me that what I'm living is crap and wrong, that annoys me.

So I guess its a reaction more than anything else.

I've never owned a Sony gaming system, purely for monetary reasons, I've often said (and still believe) that I made a mistake last gen and should have got a PS2 instead of Xbox.

I was a teenage pauper during the N64 era, but this gen I think I got the combination right.

During the 16-bit days I shifted from Nintendo to Sega and became a huge Sega fanboy. I dispised Nintendo and the SNES. I always fought for the Genesis, making sure everyone knew it was the better console. My Sega loyalities made me get a Saturn and laugh at the PS1, that was until I played Resident Evil and fell in love. After that I was more open but I still hated Nintendo until the GC games. Always loved Zelda though, I would secretly weap cause I couldn't play it.

Now I have no bias at all... not one... not to some blue hedgehog, or zombie series, or spy franchise... nope.

LOL

I laughed when my sister got a PS1 and told her it was inferior.  She hasn't played games for years and I'm sure my stupid fanboy rantings are to blame.

Funny thing is I secretly went out one night and bought Metal Gear Solid for the PS1.  I played it while she was at work and school. Nyaa

Now that is a true fanboy. I would have done the same with Zelda, but i would never show anyone.
