Holy crap @ the scale in the first image, and to know it's all seamless? Dodgy close up graphics forgiven (though I'm sure they could have been better), imo.

Some additional info about Xenoblade from retailer listings and the   retailer meeting yesterday:

- Monolithsoft estimates the game to be 70-80 hours long, over 100 hours  if you decide to enjoy all the optional content

- The entire world in Xenoblade is "seamless" and all areas flow  naturally and continuously. But there are loading breaks when you travel  between major areas. Major areas are defined as different body parts of  the two gods. So travelling from the region of the lower leg up to the  knee area, there will be loading.

- The battles are all in realtime and seamless as well. No transitions  or break, and you can see enemies roaming on the fields. When you attack   enemies normally, you use auto-attack which makes the character   automatically attack the targeted enemy continuously with regular   attacks. If you manage to move behind an enemy or to the enemy's sides, you can trigger special attacks called Arts.

- Xenoblade's soundtrack is composed by Yoko Shimomura, and she's the  only one mentioned in relation to the pre-order "special soundtrack"  bonus. If there are other composers involved, they haven't been  mentioned, but it's clear she's the main composer.

And it's gonna be EPIC!

Baten Kaitos was like 70 hours long for the main storyline so it's not impossible. And 50 would be pretty long still nowadays, even for Western (story driven) RPGs, not just JRPGs.

If you take 70 hours, you're doing it wrong.

I'll re-host them here:

It's even looking better than Monster Hunter Tri!

Nintendo has a lot to live up to for their next Zelda game.

That's not better than tri, the geometry in tri's locales is more complex and smoother and the characters/monsters are way way better. But of course its levels are segmented in small rooms and not a wide open continuous and seamless world.

Xenoblade's Characters Revealed

The pieces are starting to fall into place for Xenoblade, the original Wii RPG from the makers of Xenosaga that was previously known as "Monado." Following a couple of trailers and some sparse official site updates, Nintendo gave Famitsu the full scoop on the game this week, with new character, world and story details.

Here's the primary cast of characters and their background stories:
Shulk
The main character, an orphan. He's shown holding a book, suggesting that he may be a big fan of literature. Shulk heads off on a journey with his friends to defeat the Kishin troops who attacked his village. Race: Homs, Age: 18, Height: 171cm, Voice: Shintaro Asanuma
Fiorun
The heroine. She looks after others and is very active. She's the childhood friend of Shulk and little sister of Dunban (below). Race: Homs, Age: 18, Height: 160cm, Voice: Eri Nakao
Dunban
Hero of the Homs people, he used the Monado sword and defeated many Kishin army troops. He was injured during a major confrontation 1 year back and is now healing. Race: Homs, Age: 30, Height 180cm, Voice: Ryo Horikawa
Dickson
Dunban's war friend from a long time back. He watches over Shulk like a parent. Race: Homs, Age: 44, Height: 181cm, Voice: Tsuyoshi Koyama
Mumuca
A warrior of great skill. He once fought Dunban for the right to be the person who would use Monado. Race: Homs, Age: 30, Height: 195cm, Voice: Norio Wakamoto

The magazine also got some additional details on the Monado sword we keep hearing about. This sword is an artifact that was left to the Homs race. It's capable of piercing the strong armor of the Kishin troops, but it's such a great burden on the body that it is said only the hero Dunban can wield it.

In the trailer that was released last week, Dunban was shown in bed recovering from his injuries from the prior year's confrontation. Famitsu has images showing this confrontation, with Dunban wielding the giant Monado sword on the battle field in a fight against Kishin troops. It seems that the Monado Sword is the Homs Race only hope against the Kishin attackers.

This confrontation has a lengthy background story listed in the magazine, so it could be a major event in Xenoblade's story.

The magazine also provided a preview of some of its future coverage, revealing a couple of additional gameplay and world details.

Xenoblade's world will have a time cycle. Screenshots show the same area during different times of the day, one with a setting sun turning the sky orange and yellow. Perhaps there will be some gameplay connection to the time system? That's what Famitsu asks, and when they ask questions like that the answer is usually yes.

There's also one secret with the Monado sword. Look closely at the sword, and you'll see a blue circle near its handle. A screenshot shows the circle imprinted with the kanji for "機" (ki). The magazine probably wouldn't have brought this up if it weren't relevant to the game, so expect to hear more about this part of the sword.

Nintendo will hopefully update the official site with all this information and the screenshots later this week.

Already seen, not much new, though I suppose it's good to know early on that she's "your" sister.

New trailer.

Liking that boss dude, though he's unlikely to be a main villain or anything, probably early boss.

Nintendo skipped out last week on what seemed to be a weekly schedule for Xenoblade trailers. They made up for the miss this week with the most exciting trailer yet.

Xenoblade Trailer 3: The Omen hit the Everyone's Nintendo Channel today and was quickly posted to YouTube.

The trailer begins with hero Shulk, heroine Fiorung and legendary hero Dunban expressing shock at what appears to be an aerial raid. An alarm sounds out through town, and some soldiers comment that the alarm is different from usual. Mechanical creatures fall to the town and begin to attack the populace, who flee in panic. The sequence ends with our trio of heroes facing off against one of the creatures.

The next sequence begins with Shulk describing the red Monado sword, which he says is easily capable of slicing through the Kishin armored troops. We see a character unable to control the sword as it comes to life, and Shulk wonders if it's possible to understand the secrets of the sword.

One of those secrets appears to be revealed in the next scene. We see Dunban, who once wielded the sword, unable to control it now as Kishin troops approach. He's told by a companion that he should no longer use the sword. Shulk grabs the sword and charges at the troops. To Dunban's surprise, he's able to wield the sword and dodge incoming enemy fire. Shulk comments that with the sword, he's able to see just a bit into the future. Dunban wonders if that is the sword's hidden power.

Shulk performs some impressive moves, making a female soldier exclaim "Amazing! This is your power!?" To which Shulk responds, "It's not me. It's Monado that is showing it."

The last few dialogue bits as the trailer comes to a close revolve around the Monado sword. One character says that the sword likely has additional powers. Another character seems to want to get his hands on the Monado in order to achieve something.

All this seems to be hinting at a Monado-focused update at the official site later this week.

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/04/22/xenoblade_site_update/

The Xenoblade official site got its expected weekly update today, once again formalizing some of the information that could be loosely picked up from the latest trailer.

That trailer, "Omen," can be seen in high quality off the trailer page. Or, if you don't want to put up with a full Flash site or just want a summary of what everyone is talking about, stream the trailer here.

Good news for those who've enjoyed the three trailers shared so far. The trailer page was given two extra slots today, so it looks like there will be more footage to come.

The world section was updated with two new subsections:

Kishin Army A section about the mechanical creatures of the Kishin side of the world. This describes the events of one year prior, when the Kishin armies attacked the Kyoshin side of the world and were wiped out by the hero Dunban, who made use of Monado, the god sword. God Sword Monado The last remaining hope for the Homs race. It's said to be a sword of legend given by the gods. The blade holds a mysterious power and is able to slice through the powerful Kishin troops. However, because the great power causes great burden on the sword's user, only the Homs hero Dunban was able to use it.

The Monado section also shares a few additional details about the story. The recently released trailer depicts an attack in which main character Shulk takes the Monado from Dunban, who is no longer able to control it, and is able to instantly use it to fend off the attacking Kishin troops. This scene is in a Homs residential area called Colony 9. When Shulk takes the sword in hand, he sees a glimpse of the future, known as a "Vision."

The site's character section provides our first look at two sub characters. Both characters were previously revealed in Famitsu.

Dikson Age: 44, Height: 181cm, Race: Homs, Gender: Male, Voice: Tsuyoshi Koyama. An old war friend of Dunban. He's respected as an elder and watches over orphaned Shulk from the position of a guardian. Mumca Age: 30, Height: 195cm, Race: Homs, Gender: Male, Voice: Norio Wakamoto. A skillful warrior who once competed with Dunban to wield the Monado sword.

You can hear voice samples of these two characters at the site.

Few new pics at the site too Happy
