Secondary question since Halo 4 is launching:
What are your favourite Halo setpieces?
I liked Halo 3 I think it was with that multi-tired building you had to scale in a square shape. I picked up the mounted gun and Commando-ed their asses. Most of my faves are from Halo 1 though.

Interesting I didn't think about this question. My least favourite, yeah probably WW2 or Vietnam that kind of stuff. I do like futuristic settings in movies and games but they have to be good and not generic. IMO the best ones infuse future culture with contemporary elements. I don't like when a vision of the future is sterile and generic. The history of the world is peppered with different cultures, religions and artwork as well as having unique geography, this should be carried across to any game set in the future too.
I'm looking forward to Dishonoured steampunk. I did like Bioshocks settings which was the best thing about the game.
Napoleonic Wars. There are some guns from that time period but their were also other weopons.

Although I wasn't too fond of Red Steel 2's setting (it was cool but I prefer contemporary) the controls pretty much sold me on a game set in like an Assasins Creed Liberation setting with a musket and cutless.
My favorite settings (for any game really) is Cyberpunk (Deus Ex, Syndicate), Steampunk (Arcanum, Dishonored) or sci fi and/or horror (Borderlands, Doom 3)
My least favorite setting is modern day shooter, my eyes glaze over and my brain shuts down when evever I see modern day shooter #6573 released like Medal Of Honor, Battlefield or even Call Of Duty. Although I play every odd COD game just for the multiplayer.
I haven't played a WW2 era shooter since like the launch of the 360 I think... do they even make those anymore?
Either Hell or inside of a high school.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom
Military shooters are fucking boring.

Exorcist FPS? That might be awesome.

Fallout, eh. The setting I mean.
Destroyed stuff and scraggly survivors isn't usually my thang.
Any non-military setting. I'm not a fan of laser-type weapons though (pew-pew). I much prefer ballistics.
I like FPS set in our modern day setting. I prefer that over Aliens, cowboys or future set stuff.
My ideal shooters are not military ones, I do not want to be in a group or team I want to be a lone overpowered gunman. I want no army involvement, no deserts or helicopters. I like cities, docks, factories, basements, gangsters, clandestine organisations. I prefer contemporary settings but I would also take any game set in the 80s or 90s too.
That's why the setting of Red Steel is ideal for me, even if in hindsight the controls weren't great among other things, I love that kind of setting and story. An oriental twinge too appeals to me, perhaps why I love Shenmue and look forward to getting Sleeping Dogs.
I would also like more fantasy horror cult style FPS like what the Grinder looked like before it was remade/canned.
