You know you're losing lots and lots of money on it, right?
I own a Renault Megane Break
Not quite as adventurous, but living in the urban jungle, my cars don't have to be able to run over walabi's and koala's.
I'm in the market for a new car though. I've always said that my next car didn't need as big of a trunk, as I won't be needing to lug huge baby related material around anymore. I'm currently eyeing the new mazda3 sedan. It looks classy, drives sporty and comes with all those new fangled technology bits and bobs. I haven't been able to properly say goodbye to my cash though, so haven't ordered yet. Maybe next year once I get some of my tax money back.
All that's missing in this pic is me!

Thanks for shopping American!
I currently have a 2009 Toyota Matrix.
We also have a 2011 Toyota Sienna
I’ll be looking for a new vehicle next year sometime.

I always get the impression that hatchbacks aren't viewed as desirable in America? Is that a misconception?

Depends on the person I guess. I see tons of them but it's usually more of a family style.
I have a Rav4 right now. I wanted a Tacoma, but to get one in the same condition as the Rav4 it would have cost me at least another 10 Grand. And for what I use a vehicle for at this point that would have been pointless. I love trucks like the Tacoma or the Ford Raptor, but they're super expensive.
A friend of mine literally takes Uber everywhere he goes. To work, to the grocery store, you name it. He says it saves him money but that's a LOT of uber trips with strange people...too many for me.

minivans are dope as fuck.
So what types of cars are most popular where you live?
Here it's all SUV's and crossovers. People like how they're easier to get in and out of, as well as the false sense of higher safety that comes with a more upright and slightly higher position.
Personally I'm not fond of them. I believe that a car should be no larger than what you actually need it for. SUV's and crossovers are cars for posers, created to look tough, but never actually leave the asfalt. They'er also more expensive to buy (hello free market economy based on demand!), use more materials (as they're bigger) and use more gas than a sedan or a break that's just as big. This last point is being offset more and more by manufacturors by adding in a mild or plug-in hybrid motor, so that they can get as much mileage per gallon as a sedan, all the while sucking electricty from the net all night and using up even more limited natural resources to power the batteries.
Time for an update. (this is not a brag or even a humble brag, just a car thread).
I own a 98 Lancruiser Wagon:
A 2002 Nissan Patrol Wagon (Y61)
A 2006 VW Tiguan
And my favorite, a 95 Landcruiser (miltary Spec)
