I'm guessing most outlets will go with Red Dead Redmption, or Civ 5. Boring!

There were a lot of very very good games this year, but at the end I don't think there's truly a lot of GOTY qualifiers. So many of the excellent games were sequels which tend to have that held against them, or they just had those one or two flaws that make them kind of pale in comparison to the big hitters.
As far as what's left I think the only real contenders are probably Epic Mickey and Gran Turismo 5.
Epic Mickey and GT5 are good tips, if they are what we want them to be.

For extra challenge I;d love to see what people think certain outlets will pick. After gamespot went solo and picked Demon's Souls last year I'm going to be very interested to see what they do this year.
So what do you think IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer, Giantbomb will pick?
There are so many to choose from. This has been a great year so far. And it's still not over because I'm sure, with the insane good impressions DKC Returns is getting, that's also going to be a contender on every game award, except for maybe Spike VGA! *eyes roll*

Will be fighting for overall GOTY this year. One of these will be the GOTY. And I think it'll be a VERY CLOSE-CALL between Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption and with maybe GT5 creeping in there to challenge those two.
Also, I think it's fair to say that Castlevania Lords of Shadow won't be nominated. The reviews were just all over the place.

You don't think Civ 5 has a chance over Starcraft 2 (in the list of final consideration)? I figured Starcraft will get short-changed for being too similar to the original.
Tough call to say what the different outlets will claim but I have a feeling that GT5 will be take Eurogamer if it ends up getting a European release this year, which I'm assuming it will. It has the right level of polish, visuals, and multiplayer that they seems to appreciate. Assuming the controls and everything else is as good as anticipated I'm confident in that.
Giant Bomb and IGN will probably go with Red Dead Redemption.
If Gamespot chooses their own path I could see Mario Galaxy 2 getting they nod. Someone over there likes to give GOTY to Nintendo and they haven't had it in 2 years now. They're due.

Well, you can say the same for Civ 5, since Sid Meier really doesn't change the formula too his series that much either. I never played Civ 5 but I did play the earlier ones. And they're very similar. They're great games, no doubt, but I don't think it'll get nominated for overall GOTY. Definitely for PC GOTY.
But that's just my gut feeling on my choices. It's really obvious when you think about it.

Giantbomb and Red Dead -- Maybe. Jeff doesn't like it, but he's not that kind of boss, if the majority go for it he will too. I don;t remember them being as excited about any other game though.
Eurogamer -- I don't have a feel for them really.

Oh yeah, not questioning your opinion, that's why I asked for it. And seriously great post, very thoughtful.
I'm 99.9% sure that IGN will pick Mass Effect 2.
Just going with the recent article where the editors picked their best game of 2010 so far. Most of them chose ME2 with a few Red Deads.

for me monster hunter tri hell its the only game in past 10 years that with in 2 months i put in 200 hours into the game
I don't want this to be a thread about what you are going to pick, I just want to know what games came out this year are contenders so I can try them if I have them before the year is out.
