"Blind and deaf people will be able to more easily use smart phones, the Internet and other technologies that are staples of life and work under a bill signed into law on Friday."

But the bill does not address video games -- which means there is no requirement for subtitles in games (which is a big help if you are deaf).

At least that is what I found when I searched the bill -- I could be wrong.

Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010

I find it disappointing that a bill designed to update ADA standards for technology would ignore gaming.

36 million US residents are deaf or hard of hearing.

As someone who isn't  even deaf not having subtitles in games can be a pain in the arse tbh. Especially if it's a loud/badly mixed game.

Yeah, more times than not I play with the sound off and subtitles on.  If I were deaf, I;d be bitching about it all the time.

If the government requires it for the other forms of entertainment they should do th same for games -- particularly when they are going out of their way to craft a new bill to cover cell phones etc...  Just poor management.

Even with the sound on, take something like Killzone 2. With all the explosions and what not you'd miss a lot with the subtitles off. Of course in the case of Killzone 2 that woudln't matter in the slightest! Nyaa
