A few days ago, I got a couple thousand of Microsoft's make-believe money in exchange for my hard earned one. I wanted to check out a couple of XBLA titles, and taking advantage of the past "special sale" (Gabe lols at this), I ended up getting Trials HD, Splosion Man and Shadow Complex.

Trials HD is a game where you have to ride a bike through several sets of tracks with ever increasing difficulty. And I can't stress the "difficulty" part enough. The game does a great job at keeping the diff curve steady and engaging for most of the tracks, while constantly adding up new things to dominate and master with its great physics-based mechanics. The objective of the game is to clear all tracks as fast as possible, and without making any mistakes. As you progress through the five difficulty tiers, you get to unlock minigames, more bikes, and tournament races (basically, they are groups tracks from the main game, but without the chance to start over again if you mess up).

However, by the time you reach the beginning of the hard track set, the difficulty quickly escalates at impossible heights, and rises to the stratosphere in the Extreme set. This is where all the fun slowly backs away to be replaced by frustration and tedium.

This is a pretty fun game for a while, but I could only recommend it if you have a high frustration threshold, or a penchant for masochistic gaming experiences.

Such an obtuse name for a Motorbike stunt game.

The trials name is apt beyond belief once you enter the groundhog-esque momentum of the harder tracks. The HD part is stupid.

I have to dig this thread up from the dead. I've been playing this game again in the past few days, in a laughable and futile attempt to clear all the Extreme tracks. As of now, I have beaten 3 of the final four tracks, and I'm stuck at the very last one. I must have made over one thousand tries and I can't even see the end of it. Right now I'm not even having fun with the game, lol, I'm frustrated and majorly pissed off. However, I have invested so much time and effort in this game, I feel like I owe it to myself to finally beat it. I read somewhere that more than 90% of the people that bought this game never finished all the tracks.

I can see why.

I also remember reading that something like 25% of development time and budget went to these 4 last tracks. If that's true, it was a very stupid decision from the developer team. I's much rather replay some of the easier, more fun tracks than these aggravating nightmares. I need to finish this fucking game, but I don't know if I can do it. LOL
