It humoured me to put together a list of the <see topic>. I've done the first three, I want to put up the remaining 7 over the next couple of days.  I have my own ideas, do you guys have any suggestions?

The list is kind of commentary, hopefully you can get the feel for it with your suggestions. Of course most lists would include the Souls games, Ninja Gaiden etc... but that's not the theme I am going for.

C'mon, you've got to give me at least one nominee.  How about original X-Com?  I'm trying toget some newr games on the list though.

Well let's see, Impossible Mission for that Atari 7800 is up there. Due to a bug the game is literally impossible to beat. That's pretty hardcore.

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 on the PSP is hardcore as hell. It has a 4 minute loading time when you load up the game and it's probably the worst you'll find on a console.

I remeber playing Impossible Mission on C64 - it was true to it's name. Re-released on DS if you want to be nostaligic (don't it's not worth it).

I will look into WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006, sounds like a good candidate.

After some resaerch your game has made the list.

Working with my lead creative force for gameunder I have numbers 1 and 2 locked up, but still looking for #4 and #3 for the list.

Do you wish to elaborate?  Thought occurred, maybe Trials is a nominee?

The original TMNT game is too damn hardcore.  How are you supposed to beat that?

The arcade version of Rygar might be worth considering as well, though it might straddle the line between hardcore and your kind of list hardcore.

Like most arcade games it was a quarter muncher, and the game on its own was pretty damn hard. So you die pretty quickly and put another quarter into play. Unless you died on the last 2 levels. And then it didn't give you an option to continue. That was it. At that point your options were either Walk away or take a second mortgage out on the home to get enough quarters to get to that point again and maybe do better.

Observer is a pretty hardcore game. I've yet to finish it, but it's a really cool atmospheric first-person cyberpunk adventure game starring the late great Rutger Hauer as the main character. It's a very creepy game. I'm like halfway through it...I really need to get back to it.

I've now posted 10-2, with just one game to go, so none of these will make the cut, sorry gents.  I had not heard of Observer Edge.

Animal Crossing if you are hardcore enough to run around town endlessly on Halloween as 4 different characters to acquire all Halloween furniture. And set up a shop in your basement with them to trade with other people online.

The number 1 entry on your list...I used to devour that series. I had at least 4 installments of it that came out during a 5 year period. Unfortunately those later ones just got too hardcore for me and I had to accept my status as "newb."

I've got to say, this was one of my most favorite things I've asked you guys to contribute to.

Top Ten Games for Hardcore Gamers — Game Under Podcast

It was also the second highest traffic on gmaeunder.net for 2021.  I sent it to a few of the remaining video game sites, so it probably got some back-channel traffic.
