I know the movies are coming out I am saying that the new movies are their own take on the books, they are not a remake of the older films.

It's the same thing, based on the same books the story is very defined as are the characters. If you watch the american trailer it's very similar to the original Swedish film and that film is the reason that these U.S movies are being made in the first place. Why do you have this aversion to watching the original versions of films? Infernal Affairs 1 and 2 are still waiting to be watched!

They're brothers, homeerotic? Ewww.

I mean I was looking for a new TV show to watch. So I tried Alias and Jennifer Garner is whining about her homework and college and the guy who fancies her and she glams herself up in outfits for her spying job. It was too much soft ass crap to take, so it's nice to see a road trip with two guys round about our age, take no shit and kill some demons.

Pfft, you'd be all over it if they were twins and women.

I never said I am against seeing original versions, its just a pain to do so since they dont really get released here. I like going to the theater, those movies don't come out here. Plus I MUCH rather watch a movie in english and with Hollywood actors. Sorry but there is no way random Japanese actors (to me) can compare to watching say Jack Nicholson.

As for Dragoon Tatto, I would guess there would be Hollywood versions of the books regardless if there was a Swedish version or not. Aren't the books hugely popular, there is much money to be had there. I do see a clear distinction in two directors adapting the book different ways compared to a director remaking a movie based on a book. Its two very different processes. As far as I know Fincher's version will be his own and has nothing to do with the Swedish versions.

BTW Spike Lee's Oldboy is going to be so freaking weird. Do you think they have the guts to go all the way with the plot, they better cause there is no point in making the movie if they aren't.

Let's see Jack Nicholson act as someone with cerebral palsy realistically while also making it an emotional performance. He's a great actor, though, but it's not as if he's in every film.

Jack does crazy very well and thats about it. I mean Hollywood actors in general, I much rather watch actors I know in a language I know.

The original manga had no incest story. Park Chan Wook significantly updated the story.

You will find that most of these movies release on dvd in the states and you can easily rent them. There are not random actors in asian films, they have stars just like Holywood has stars. But if you never watch the movies you will never get to know them. Personally, I think there is a world of films out there outside of the Hollywood machine and they are much more interesting and diverse too. America is only one country, if I can watch movies made by people in different countries you get much more variety and different perspectives. Reading a few subtles isn't hard.

The trailer for Finchers Dragon Tatoo looked broadly similar to the swedish films, i.e there are key events in the book that will look the same as they are key plot points that have to be replicated on screen for the story to work. I could list them but I would be spoiling the story for people.

Yes. I gave up reading the manga mid-way through.

Been watching more supernatural, up to the bug episode, which is episode 8 of season 1.

Just realised that every episode so far has an X-files equivalent episode. Also realised that they are trying to do mini episodes of popular horror films or concepts.

They keep doing episodic stuff and then include a couple of minutes about the two brothers looking for their dad. Hope the story becomes more all encompassing and less episodic. I hear the series has been renewed for a 7th season but that the main story was concluded end of season 5.

You know Lucas was heavily inspired by an Akira Kurosawa japanese film and he borrowed elements when making Star Wars?

I am 2/3rds of the way through watching the remake of Hidden Fortress the Last Princess.

It's pretty fun, nothing special but if you know Star Wars you will appreciate all the little nods. It has the droids as two hobos, han solo as the protector of the princess. Darth Vader is a guy in a black samurai mask. They even have a vagualy sounding Empire strikes back theme which plays  continuously.

Cool stuff GG.

Big thumbs up for Captain America, the movie is fun as hell. Its a straight up adventure film in the style of Indiana Jones though not as good of course. I love the way it was directed, it totally captured the essense of that era. It reminded me a lot of Superman the movie, that movie totally recreated the campy world of the early Superman comics, this film recreated the 40s era propaganda films. Everyone does an excellent job and its so cool to see a perfect live action Red Skull. What Marvel has been doing with these films is incredible, they are nailing almost every one.

I finally got around to watching LOTR Blu ray, I just saw FOTR after years of not watching any of them, I came on this site just to talk about it cause I have to. Wow, I forgot how powerful movies can be. I dont know if I can describe the feeling well but after it was over I sat there feeling the aftershocks, its not a movie you just turn off and move on. It hit me at my very core, I was totally emotionaly invested into the movie by the time it was over I felt I went through the journey with them. Its such a near perfect movie from the way its directed, the pacing of the movie and its majestic score. I can only saw wow.

I have not seen these movies nor Star Wars in years so i kind of forgot what watching my favorite movies felt like, well they are my favorite for a reason. Its everything I want out of a film. While I have seen many great movies over the last years there really hasn't been anything like this. I know these movies may not be your favorite but I hope that you feel the same way about your favorite films. Wow, I can't wait to see the next one tomorrow.

I also watched FOTR last night. Image quality is amazing, and this is the first time I watch the EE version, so it was even cooler.
