It is funny that you complain that the game has too much hand holding, but then complain that the hint tablets are not explained. Would explaining basic stuff like reading a tablet fall under handholding?

I will tell you the final thoughts of everyone.

Skyward Sword is the best/wost/okay Zelda game, OoT/WW/MM/TP was so much better/as good/worse.

i haven't played it yet, but I must say that I agree with this appraisal 100%.

Glitch time.

Nintendo finally come forth and told us mortals what causes this glitch. Apparently Golo the Goron is the real villian of the game.

Nintendo said:

We have been made aware of the issue that results in being unable to progress in a late-game , three-way branch quest. If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue.

The situation is caused by performing the following sequence of events during a late-game quest in which the game reaches an obvious 3-way branching point:

1. At the beginning of the quest, go to Lanayru Desert to talk to plot-relevant character (you'll know who this is when you get there)

2. In the Lanayru Mine, speak with Golo the Goron. You have to speak with him the first time to progress.

3. Complete the plot-relevant character's quest

^^^ This stuff is alright to do.

DON'T DO THIS NEXT PART! IF YOU DO, BETTER PLAY THE SONG OF TIME!!!!

Before doing the other two parts of the quest, speak with GOLO THE GORON.

At this point, the next two quests will no longer occur, making it impossible to continue.

Solutions:

• This issue WILL NOT OCCUR if the other two parts of the quest have already been collected before beating the Lanayru Quest. Talking to Golo in the Lanayru Caves will also NOT trigger this issue if the quests have been completed already.

• If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue.

I wish I had a better answer, but I'm afraid there currently is no other fix available. I can assure, however, that we are documenting all feedback we receive on this issue. Thank you for your patience and support.

So basically do the Lanaryu part of the 3-part quest last.

I did the Lanaryu part the second and the glitch did not activate. Weird!

I did them in order, like Vader said and am fine.  Nintendo needs to patch this mess up.

Nintendo does not do patches. They will probably fix it in the newer prints and you could probably trade in your disc for the newer one for free.

They had that f-ed up bug in Super Paper Mario too.

Well, despite this being the 3D zelda game that I have the most complaints about, it's actually one of the best 3D zeldas. It's let down by lack of story, lack of epic atmosphere, lack of self discovery, average music etc. But I find the design so well thought out and impeccable that it's still a great game and still a great zelda game. It would be in my top 3 home console zeldas and maybe in the top 2 - if I disregard nostalgia.

I don't think I agree with the reviews saying it's got all this "new" stuff. To me, Zelda has always had new stuff but the developers are so adept and talented with controls and game systems that it all feels integrated into the main game. Zelda has always been an everything game to me, from sliding down a snowy mountain, rolling about as a Goron, to flying a dragon creature, riding a canoe down rapids, fishing, sword fighting, horse riding - the list could go on forever.

Even though it's new, it still resolutely feels like Zelda and that's a very admirable trait to the games I find.

Yes and it was only the PAL version of that game. Patching was basically Nintendo sending you a new disc, was it not? Also the same thing happened with Endless Ocean in Japan, they recalled the game and printed new discs.

Nintendo really has quality of quantity philosophy when it comes to bugs. Their are extremely rare, but the ones that are in the game are mostly game ending.

Yes OoT, WW and MM were all very different from each other. Skyward Sword is the same in this regard, but they did change the overworld structure. The line between overworld and dungeon is definitely blurred. Before you walked in a straight line up to a mountain and enter the dungeon and do puzzles. Now you do puzzles before the dungeon and in the dungeon.

The sword fighting is new, but it does feel like the spiritual sequel to Zelda II. So it is new, but yet it feels like it always fitted with the franchise.

So basically do the Lanaryu part of the 3-part quest last.

I did the Lanaryu part the second and the glitch did not activate. Weird!

So you can talk to Golo, but just once. No wonder the glitch is so rare, most people talk to him finish the area and leave. Wait a minute I am pretty sure I talked to him after doing the quest and I had no game breaking bug. Maybe PAL version does not have it? I will try to see if I can get that glitch to work.

I begun the Hero mode playthrough. My intention was to finish the beginning very quickly, but I can't help myself. I talked to everyone. I am going to pay special attention to the music.

The music that plays when Zelda and Link are in a cutscene together is great. Fi's theme is sublime and the main theme remains awesome. Maybe the music will grow on me, like TP music grew on me too?

1. At the beginning of the quest, go to Lanayru Desert to retrieve the song of the Thunder Dragon.

2. In the Lanayru Mine, speak with Golo the Goron.

3. Complete the Thunder Dragon's event, and receive his song.

4. Before heading to the forest or volcano regions, speak with Golo in the mine again.

5. At this point, the forest and volcano events will no longer occur, making it impossible to continue.

Solutions:

• This issue WILL NOT OCCUR if the Fire and Water Dragon songs have already been collected before collecting the Thunder Dragon's song. Talking to Golo in the Lanayru Caves will also NOT trigger this issue.

• If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue.

You need to program hooks in the game to be able to use patches. These patches are stored in the hard drive. The Wii has very little flash memory, so maybe that is why they don't use patches. Of course you could store them on your SD card, but maybe no one told Nintendo that.

I played SS on an HDTV last night, now I know what agnates meant about the jaggies. angry

I found a few more goddess cubes, I like how there are some secret areas that you can't see or get to unless you hang off ledges.

Playing Hero mode and having a ball. Did the Faron woods part and finished the first dungeon. It really feels different in Hero mode. Any mistake you make will cost you dearly, for there are no heart picks up whatsoever. I you get hit by a deku baba you lose two hearts and you will not get them back so easily. It forces you to be more careful.

The 1st dungeon looks awesome and has some great music, shame that it is so short. I did get stuck near the beginning for 5 minutes, can't believe I got stuck in the first dungeon on my second playthrough.

The Stalfos fight was fun, one hit takes away 4 hearts. Two hits and you are dead. I died the first time because I was not careful, the second time I beat him without getting hit once. Ghirahim killed my like 5 times, because I wanted to counter is dash attack with a spin attack. But timing it is difficult and each time he hits you it takes away 2 hearts. I said fuck it and started pressuring him, not giving him any chance to do his dash attack. He did not stand a chance then, only got hit once because I made a mistake.

Some things that change in Hero mode. All the cutscenes can now be skipped, including the one that plays when you enter a new area and Fi gives you some info about the area. Fi still talks and the text is still slow. Heck after getting a slingshot from the big giant testicle, the big giant testicle explained how the slingshot works. Not even 60 seconds later, Fi finds it necessary to explain it again. Nintendo does not think we are idiots, they think we all suffer from Alzheimer. Shame that they did not remove all the tutorials in Hero mode.

Some other things that change in Hero mode. Some tutorials can be skipped in the beginning and the Skeikah stone has all the hint movies unlocked. So no more unlocking new movies as you go on, they are all unlocked. Also the skyward strike charges up much faster.

Some new details that I have noticed. When Fi calls you, you can see your sword glow. You can charge a skyward strike and then do a spin attack, this will make your spin attack stronger. From a hint movie, you can collect arrows by 'catching'  the arrows with your wooden shield.
