For me to do this blindfold, I obviously can't use RedHotPawn since that has a board, you know.  Dvader, PM me with your first move (I'll be black in your game) and Steel, I'll be white in ours and send you mine.  We'll keep going on the game we're currently playing.

And Steel/Dvader, either set up games between each other or use a separate program to keep track yourself.

I am going to make my own board with some used cardboard boxes, draw the squares with a pencil, and use beans as pieces. LOL

I can focus on chess again.

Yoda, I lost the placement of the game again, sorry. I gave the info you sent me last time, I think we moved like 3 times since then.

My chess openings tutorial is completed.  Sorry about the wait, but I wanted to do it right.

Hopefully it'll be of some help.

Computer glitch may have led to Deep Blue's historic win over chess champ Kasparov

Earlier this year, IBM celebrated the 15-year anniversary of its supercomputer Deep Blue beating chess champion Garry Kasparov. According to a new book, however, it may have been an accidental glitch rather than computing firepower that gave Deep Blue the win.

At the Washington Post, Brad Plumer highlights a passage from Nate Silver's The Signal and the Noise. Silver interviewed Murray Campbell, a computer scientist that worked on Deep Blue, who explained that during the 1997 tournament the supercomputer suffered from a bug in the first game. Unable to pick a strategic move because of the glitch, it resorted to its fall-back mechanism: choosing a play at random. "A bug occurred in the game and it may have made Kasparov misunderstand the capabilities of Deep Blue," Campbell tells Silver in the book. "He didn't come up with the theory that the move it played was a bug."

As Silver explains it, Kasparov may have taken his own inability to understand the logic of Deep Blue's buggy move as a sign of the computer's superiority. Sure enough, Kasparov began having difficulty in the second game of the tournament — and Deep Blue ended up winning in the end.

Read that article earlier in the week, it was terrible.  And the entire controversy and concern that Kasparov had in that series had nothing to do with game 1.  Game 1 played out the way he expected.  It was game 2 that got to Kasparov because he thought they cheated based on the 45th move, which he thought was impossible for the computer to calculate.

Also, I can almost guarantee that the idea that Kasparov took the 44th move as "super intelligent" is nonsense.  Why did it revert to a random move?  Because it was completely and totally screwed and it didn't matter what move it made because it was going to resign the next move nomatter what.  It's not like it hit the random button and got lucky with something that, under analysis, was brilliant.  It was a waste of a move in a game that was already over.
