Only two more Kill la Kill episodes left, series got soooo much better at the halfway point. Really enjoying it.

Mako is the greatest, I want a Mako in every show.

I've finally gotten round to watching both seasons of Strike Witches.

I wasn't quite prepared for the level of nudity and panty shots on display in this show, nevertheless, it wasn't the primary reason as to why it appealed to me. Overall impressions? Both seasons are fun. I find the animation to be average but the action set-pieces are a joy to watch, especially admist the frantic World War 2 aesthetic, with the propeller (magic-powered) strikers themselves looking and sounding absolutely badass. The characters are memorable enough, often taking after real-world aces as with Charlotte Yeager (Chuck Yeager) or Erica Hartmann (Eric Hartmann). Sadly though, the protagonist in Miyafuji is a bit bland and doesn't deviate far from the promising, if naive, newbie as invoked throughout the story. The world building itself is pretty shallow for my liking. It is established early on that the witches were employed as a result of the direct threat of aliens known as Neuroni, yet in both seasons it is never suggested why they are attacking or what the poltics are like for those fighting against them, outside of  resentment against the witches within the military's older brass. Some minor plot twists throw a spanner into the conflicts resolved in the show, but without going into spoiler territory, the structure of the plot appears as if it is going nowhere until the very end. I haven't much else to say otherwise, the voice acting choices were appropriate in the Japanese dub, with the music fitting the mood and setting as they should, whether it be a vigirous training session in one episode or a oh so excessive bath sequence in the next. No complaints here wink.

In anycase, Strike Witches is a simple show, easy enough to watch and the blantant fanservice is just a cherry on top. I reckon I will go back to this franchise in the future, one way or another, if only to compare the English dub to its Japanese equivalent. That said, the limited plot makes it easy to drop in and drop out of the 12 episodes in each season.

***1/2 Stars from me.

Only one last episode of Kill la Kill to go.

If it wasn't for the Anime Sommelier I wouldn't have pushed through to the good stuff so thanks Raven.

Welcome to the site.

So Strike Witches doesn't sound like something you should seek out? Is your avatar Levi from Attack on Titan?

I am watching Hellsing Ultiamte in English, GG. Great dub. The protagonists have so much more personality compared to the Japanese (everyone else is generally much better in Japanese, though). Even Police Girl is good once you get used to her, and quirky women prone to shouting are almost always the most unbearable part of any dub.

I really like Funimation dubs. Their work on FMA is pretty incredible. Attack on Titans dub and Fairy Tail is great too.

Have you seen the 15 minute I love war speech? That's hilarious.

Thanks, my avatar is Mugen from Samurai Champloo. I used it for many years on Steam/GB/Gamespot so I figured it would make sense to carry it over to here as well.

Feels like it. It just goes on and on, made me laugh. Everything is just so OTT.

Does anyone know anything about a show called Ghost Hunt? For some reason the boy has really gotten into it. He likes horror stuff, so I'm pretty sure that's why he gravitated to it. Just curious if it's something that's way too inappropriate for him or not.

Never heard of it. Fairy Tail is good for all ages though there's lots of kicking and punching. And the odd "Bastard" thrown in once every 30 episodes.

Just started watching Blue Exorcist, saw one episode, good so far. There's a kid who sees ghosts and demons, finds out he's the devils son. Seems a decent mix of funny/action/horror.

Finished Kill la Kill, good series but though the first half now makes sense, first time through it was a bit of a slog.
