Raven have you hooked your laptop up to the HDTV to watch Crunchyroll on the big screen? Works nicely.

So I'm nearing the end of Jojos Bizaare Adventure, and I will watch Stardust Crusaders next I guess. Any other Jojo series or OVAs I should look out for?

Definately; I made sure my laptop had an HDMI port before I bought it.  My new gaming PC is always connected to my 42 inch HDTV; it's my primary monitor now, Grinning

It's so much easier than it used to be. Ages ago I tried hooking up an old laptop via VGA and it was a pain in the ass and looked crappy on the tv. Also I had a dvi but an hdmi cable and the dvi portion wouldn't carry sound either.

I started watching Legends of the Dark King: A fist of the north star story. It's a 13 episode series which shows what Rao was doing while Ken was roaming about. How he got his horse etc and conquered other kings. It's decent but kinda pisses me off at the same time, they've completely changed what Rao looks like, from this hulking dark skinned guy into this boring non-descript blonde guy.

It also has a dulled colour palette and no cheesy music like the original.

Finished Jojos Bizaare adventure it was decent, a little ridiculous but fun enough. Moved onto Stardust Crusaders, seems allright too.

Legends of the Dark Kings has gotten a lot better, finally crossing over with Fist of the North Star content. We've seen how Rao took Kassendra and made it a prison, how the warden was appointed. And how Rao got his black horse and recruited Ryuga as well as how it's crossed over with Tokis journey and its shown how and why Toki was imprisoned in Kassandra.

Japanese Manga Readers Recount Series That Made Them Cry

The number once choice was One Piece (18.2%), with one participant saying she cried when Luffy and his friends watched Going Merry sink into the sea. This particular scene got its own anime special, which was pretty sad judging by the characters in the poster.

Another woman said she cried at the end of Chopper's chapters. His sad past is told in Chapters 141-145, as part of the Drum arc. A 24-year-old woman found Nefertari Vivi's farewell to the Straw Hats crew as particularly sad, and one male participant referenced a scene when Sanji says, "Kuso Osewaninarimashita." ("Thanks for all the shit.")

The second most popular choice was Slam Dunk by Takehiko Inoue. Some of the tear-jerking scenes mentioned include Rukawa and Hanamichi high-fiving in the last volume, Kiminobu Kogure making the three-pointer against Ryonan, the silent scene during the match against Sannoh, and when Hisashi Mitsui rejoins the Shohoku Basketball Team.

The third most popular choice was actually the children's comic Doraemon. A 41-year-old woman said she remembered reading Doraemon as a child and crying when the robot cat returned to the future.

Marimo Ragawa's Baby & Me shojo manga was also noted for causing a few readers to cry, like when Minoru gets into an accident.

Other series mentioned by readers include Parasyte, Gakuen Alice, Tokimeki Tonight, Lemming no Yukue, The Rose of Versailles, Neighborhood Story, NANA, Major, Tenshi Nanka ja Nai, and Kimi no Te ga Sasayaite Iru.

Are there any manga that made you cry? If so, what scenes from the series were the saddest?

Still watching One Piece, really liking it but they do like to stretch out the story by a few episodes too many. I was reading up on it and holy crap:

"The still continuing series has aired over 600 episodes. Additionally, Toei has developed eleven animated feature films, two OVA's, and five television specials. As of 2013, the series had over 345 million volumes in circulation worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history."

So it's the most popular manga in history. Wow. Over 600 episodes makes Bleach and it's 250-ish episodes I've seen so far seem small.

We're up to Collection 8 on dvd in the UK which is 200 episodes, 4 discs per set so: 32 discs. Still 400 more episodes to release. surprise

^It's meant to be great.

Anyway, the new version of Jojo's Bizarre adventure...such a great mixture of humour, horror and action; all of which are used to great effect in part 2 of season 1. The "twists" in the fight scenes of part 2 are awesome, and a great way to make action scenes in comic book animation seem to flow smoothly.

What's the old version called and how do I find it? I watched what I assume is the new version and I'm currently burning through Stardust Crusaders.

Crunchyroll versus Funimation

I have used both anime streaming services for about a month now, so I thought I'd share my opinion of each:

Crunchyroll is an awesome site. It has a crazy amount of exclusive content, it's fast, very easy to navigate, and it remembers where you last left off in a show, so you can easily go back to watch more. It also offers many newer shows in both 720p and 1080p. However, Crunchyroll has very few English dubbed shows (doesn't bother me, personally).

Funimation also has a crazy amout of exclusive content, and when watching a video, it is fast and smooth; HD videos are limited to 720p max, though--no 1080p, for you! Unlike Crunchyroll, they also offer both English dubbed and subbed anime for most of their shows. However, ther site navigation is absolutely awful! It's extremely sloooow--it can often take up to 30 seconds (or more) just to load a single page. It does NOT remember where you left off in a show, even if you have it in your queue. I have to remember which show I watched last time, and manually look up that episode number each time I vist their site. For some reason, creating a bookmark of the last video you watched often won't load, or it'll go back to the wrong episode. It's extremely annoying, and I waste a lot of time just trying to find the episode that I'm looking for. It's ridiculous for a streaming website to not have this feature, especially after they supposedly "relaunched" their site last fall.

If I could only subscribe to one site, it would be Crunchyroll. It's a near-perfect anime streaming site. Funimation's exclusive content is well worth the $8 per month, but navigation issues are a real pain in the ass, and I use their site far less because of it.

I went back through this whole thread to find this post again. I was thinking of signing up with Funimation for the billion episodes of One Piece dubbed. Eh, 30 seconds for one page? Fuuuu.

I don't mind the what episode thing, I'll just keep a piece of paper with what ep I'm on. It depends on the price though. I just browsed the site and it seems much faster than you said. Maybe they fixed it?

Ah, fuck:

*Funimation’s Streaming Service is only available in the United States and in Canada.

So I've been re-reading the thread for reccomendations, adding stuff on Crunchyroll and looking through that site I found with free english dubbed anime and...

... er guys this site has a better selection than Crunchyroll, or other places for free. I don't know if it's a legit site, but it works like youtube and streams and the quality is watchable about 240-360p. And it has a lot of content, incuding http://www.animetycoon.net/watch/fullmetal-alchemist-brotherhood/

And Legend of Korra, Fairytail, Attack on Titan, Avatar and more, dubbed in English. surprise

Yeah, that site isn't legal, GG. Read their DMCA. There are a ton of these shady anime sites out there.

Thought so.

Interesting to see all the shows together, rather than broken up by who owns what licence, by what country. Makes me wish there was some uber company that could own everything but then they'd have a monopoly I guess.

Yeah, Funimation have made some improvements to their site's performance over the summer. It's still pretty clunky, but finding stuff is easier and much faster than it was before.

Not sure if it will work, but there are apps that can be downloaded for Firefox and Chrome that allows you to change your region. Probably wouldn't work for paid subscriptions to Funi since they require a credit card, but the free videos should be watchable.

Don't get me started on region locking of digital content.  Now that I have internet I've been introduced to a whole world of "Not for You" announcements on the PS4 and 360 when trying to access TV and movies.

I understand international licenscing rights are complicated, but what gets me is the AUSTRALIAN PS4 that I bought, registered to an AUSTRALIAN credit card and physical address, still parades all these media options in front of me, lets me download the service, install it, pick through the content and then when I go to buy the contents goes, "Oh yeah, sorry about that". Amazon even lets me log in with my aussie account to download and install their ap and does the same thing.

Well, I would not go that far, but you know, they take the time to put in an australian power cord etc.. you think they could give us content directed for our region based on IP before presenting the goods as opposed to at the end step.

Use this on the computer.

Try this or this on PS4.

Obviously I don't know how effective either of the PS4 solutions are, but Hola Unblocker is incredibly useful.

That's an idea, but that free site seems appealing if Funimation wont allow Brits to view and pay for the site. Thing is, they are only hurting themselves, they could make money, there are people here willing to pay.

Yeah that sucks. There's some weird licencing stuff going on. Stuff Raven is watching stuff in America that can't be seen by me on Crunchyroll here. Some shows go on hiatus fo lengthy periods so some other company can flog it for six months. As a consumer it's frustrating and somewhat bewildering. Some trailers on the internet are region locked?

Don't know what weird pricing experiment is going on with anime in the UK but the latest shows like Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill are fewer and fewer episodes per set for more than double the price. Attack on titan is £50 for 26 episodes while you can get more episodes of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood on Bluray for almost half the price.
