SO how does this game work? Is it an MMO? Is it a shared world where you can visit other players' castles and holes in the ground? Got to admit it does look like fun. Appeals to the Harvest Moon farmer in me.
Your character works both in SP or multiplayer modes, and everything you can hold in your inventory gets carried between modes. Single player lets you create a procedurally generated world in one of three sizes (small-medium-large), with differences between them being the depth of the world, size of the ocean, and the number of corruption places (spots that spawn mobs -baddies- ). In multiplayer mode you can either host or join other ppl's multiplayer worlds, accesable through your (or them) IP adress. All the shit you can dig or get in MP worlds you can carry back to your own. MP mode supports up to 8 players.

This is Steel we're talking about. If it was a non-game he'd have made time to get on a podcast to lambast it!
Oh you and your weird definitions of games and the need to have carrots dangling in front of your nose. There are loads of shit to do, bosses to beat, random events such as blood moons or goblin invasions, and all you care about is rescuing the princess and watching the credits. No, there is no ending. There is, arguably, a "final boss" (King Slime), but not a proper ending, as far as I know.

Fuck you, Keita Takahashi. Fuck you up your loose asshole.
Tom McShea and Jeff Gerstmann have been raving about it. JG played it 22 hours this weekend.
The common description is "2D mincraft, but with gameplay".
Not my scene though, I need end bosses.
I may check it out one of these days. I've been broke for a while so my list of games that I want to buy has grown ridiculously large. I'm going to add this to it, but I don't think I'll get to it anytime soon.
It has made me think about how much I miss a good MMORPG though. Pity there aren't any interesting ones to play anymore.
Since when did you become quirky download guy?
Steam has corrupted you

I know!
I found my underground jungle last night, and it had this weird golden temple, at around 650 feet below ground level. It's so cool to dig your way through layers of dirt and rock and open an entrance to a fucking jungle, complete with strange creatures. The temple held a golden chest with goodies, which I, in good mexican fashion, plundered. Then I took the chest as well. And the golden bricks. And the back walls. Basically I took it all.
smerlus (GS buddy) also has this game and he's nuts about it. He dug his way down to hell last night. With lava, and fire bats and shit. He lasted 4 steps and then died.

A 2D sidescrolling MMORPG.
WTF describes it well from what I played of it. I don't mean that in a good way.
EDIT:
I assume he's talking about the DS version, though. I know nothing about that.
I played Maple Story for a while back in 2007 or so. It's neat, but honestly not something I ever found myself getting hooked on, which was surprised since it is an MMMORPG. While it is a free game the only way to progress in it at an acceptible pace is to buy (with real money) additional weapons and armor - aka microtransactions. If you're willing to throw down a couple bucks here and there you'll do fine in the game, but otherwise it's a little on the boring side and you'll pretty much just be stuck in grinding hell.
Picked up this nifty indie game during the last Steam summer sale. I'll let the official GAF thread describe it for you:
Terraria is an action/adventure game created by Andrew "Redigit" Spinks, from Re-Logic, an independent
studio. Taking place in bidimensional procedurally generated and completely worlds, the game lets players
destroy and rebuild the environments as they see fit, while facing the threats of the horrible monsters who
roam the land. The gameplay mixes the sandbox elements of Minecraft with the battles and exploration of
2D Castlevania games, with additional factors such as the existance of NPCs and crafting.
I've spent a good number of hours into it, basically you start out with plain clothes, a basic set of tools and a few supplies, and off you go. You can mine, harvest, chop or dig your way into the game any way you see fit. Wanna build a nice cottage on a hill? Want to burrow yourself and build an underground lair? Want to build a huge-ass stone castle? The materials are there for you. The adventuring aspects introduce nifty gameplay elements if crafting isn't enough to keep you busy. You can summon horrible monsters that drop valuable ore, to craft even deadlier/more effective weapons/tools. You can explore and try to find underground jungles. You can even dig your way down to hell and see what neat stuff you can loot from there.
It's a great game, it's only 16 MB so it takes to download less time than it takes you to fart, and it has very affordable system requirements. Check it out here.
