Welp, Sony got the best conference for once. Not so much due to PS3 exclusives, those were still few if you look it up. They just had the most, in number, nice games to show, though many will also be available elsewhere, maybe minus a level or Move feature here and there. And hey, people are finally pushing pointer controls for FPS like it deserves, it only took 5 years and Sony marketing money to happen, while pretending they're the first to do it, thanks a lot. Although the notion it's for people who can't wrap their heads around controllers is retarded since you use the same number of functions and all that, it's not easier for casuals or something.

Totally considering the NGP at that price point if that's without skimping on the internal memory etc. I'm waiting a year first though, I bought the PSP as it was similarly shiny and promising but it was mostly disappointing though I have several games I love on it. I don't want this to repeat, I'm not buying any system close to launch. I'm definitely expecting a 3DS price drop by the holidays though, unless Nintendo blows us away tommorow.

It's cartridge based -- that's what they said at the initial reveal.

I'm in the wait boat as well. I waited almost 2 years before I got a PSP, but Mrs. Aspro wants one at launch (given the price and the choice between the 3DS and Vita).

I'm waiting to see what kinds of games it wil lhave. If they are just PS3 games, I'm not impressed. I have a PS3 and I like it, but I don't need a portable one.

They have changed some of the Vita specs since it's initial launch though, so I don't think anyone really knows for sure.

Regardless I'm with the rest of the crew. I'm not getting one at launch. Besides I've only paid over $200 for a system one time (the Wii) and I don't think I'll ever do that again, so I won't be touching anything till there's a price drop.

I have zero interest in Sony's Vita. I would get a 3DS if it were cheaper (around $150), though.

^ (robio) Well it sure isn't disc-based, and they've said it's not DL only, so that only leaves memory stick/ cartridges.

So, is $249 the biggest story of E3 so far? I'm thinking it has to be.  When the NGP was revealed, people's response was generally, "Yeah that's a lot of great tech, but what's it going to cost?" and I think I lot of us figured Sony never learns and would charge any where from $400-$600.

Notably, Mark McDonald called it months ago saying $249.

Well mem stick has become cheap enough now that they could just 4 or 8 gig ones that cost them well under 10$ all they would have to do is burn the game into the memory so no way to accidently erase it.

I think it's a bit premature to rule out cassette tapes.

And we are now all painfully aware that PS3 games are only 1-5 GB since the PSN freebies Nyaa

So that's not a stretch.

There's also the matter of the games' cost though. If they're averaging $60 at launch like home console releases, no thank you even if the system cost $100. 3DS games are still $40 at launch, yeah? If a portable is as expensive in the long run as home systems that will just make me buy like 5-10 games for it over the years after they're super cheap and only those I really REALLY want, like for PSP. Unless it's so damn awesome that I don't feel the need for any home system outside the PC, but that seems doubtful. So, game pricing plz.

I wonder if they'd do something like:

- You can buy Uncharted 3 for $60 for your PS3.

- Or You can buy Uncharted 3 for $80 for both your PS3 and Vita.  Code included unlocks on-disc content that can be transferred to Memory Stick / On board storage.

Maybe for some games but clearly they can't just port everything, only what's not using the PS3 fully. Otherwise why Uncharted 3 PS3 and Uncharted Spin Off Vita? They'd just show the same game. Especially since it's not a more portable friendly thing and they kept stressing it's the home experience people love, but portable. But that's not a huge help, not everyone has a PS3 and it doesn't make the Vita version cheaper.

Just speculating. Like you with your $60 game price from nowhere. Nyaa

EDIT: I hope it's from nowhere!

I'm just saying I want them to announce the games pricing, it's even more important than the system's cost yet I see some people online are deciding to purchase it based on that. It's a good start but not the whole story.

I hope that by the next next gen we can just have one system that is both a home console and a portable, with no porting or emulating or anything, just running the same games, like if you have Steam installed on your desktop and on your laptop computer. A single release would give any publisher access to both types of users. They'd lose the double dipping but come on, how many even do that? And you'd still have home friendly and potentially cheaper more portable friendly games developed, you'd just also be able to play them as you wish rather than be restricted by what the developers thought was better on the go or most suitable for the couch. Something like the Vita for the portable aspect, then just putting the thing on top of your TV, like a Kinect or Eyetoy, and wirelessly connecting your Wiimote&nunchuck or whatever to it for home use, or if you don't care to use the controllers (and if the game doesn't require that kind of controls) then just keep the system itself in your hands, though I guess they'd need a way to connect it wirelessly to the TV in that case.
