I like to think it's awfully similar to Borderlands. That makes it sound more appealing to me.
Yeah, Borderlands was good. A lot of people who like PSO say it is like PSO, in which case, that is a great accmoplishment.
It's halo borderlands. But since halo plays so much better and has great online versus it is better than borderlands.
It's got the great Halo gameplay, the cool loot and exploration of Borderlands, and some MMO seasoning with the social aspect of seeing other players doing their thing while you do yours. Ocassionaly optional Public Events pop up and anyone in the vicinity can choose to do them or not. It's all done quite nicely and surprisingly unobtrusive whether you're playing solo or with others.

3 for the story mode missions and 6 for the competitive mp.
Okay, but can there be more players in the world at a time? Just trying to clarify that first M (massively) in the MMO. Usually that's given to a game that has hundred of concurrent players interacting.

Yeah. You'll see about a dozen people at the Tower, the main place where you buy weapons and stuff. When playing missions you'll see a few people here and there but I think it's no more then 3 at a time. It's not really an MMO though as it doesn't really have a persistant world and you can't really run up to the people you meet and communicate with them much. There's some gestures you can do such point, wave, dance, and sit. I don't even think you can voice chat unless you're in an actual party.

WHen you explore randomly there are more than 3 people.
And apprarently it will be really short too
Bungie confirmed today that Old Russia, the beta level, is the only location on earth. And every planet will only have one location.

There are only 5 locations total. So if they are the size of old russia you are looking at a game that can be done in like 15 hours maybe less. Bungie previously showed Chicago, I guess that will be DLC. That huge galaxy you get to explore, guess that is DLC too. In fact it feels like the game is simply going to come out in chunks. The first two major expansions are already announced and there will be more after that. The idea was that the sequels would add onto the whole package.
So are you ready to slowly pay for this game over time?
Yeah I noticed that exploring randomly there was more then 3 people after I posted. Maybe up to 6? Not sure.
I'm kind of thinking that this will be somewhat of a long life-cycle game where they release expansions periodically instead of having a typical sequel 2 to 3 years later.
Well the beta is a good size...so I'd like to think the finished game will be at least around 20 hours long. Of course, its a loot game too, so you want to go and replay shit over and over.
The limited and ghost editions of the game have a pass for the first two expansion packs, so if you buy one of those you're basically going to get most of what they will probably ever release for the game.

Woah Whoah Whoa?
WTF? I just heard it's super short, not at all an MMO (endless game).
Fuck that.
The game is fun as hell...better than any Halo since Combat Evolved. and its going to be longer than any Halo...so why is it not long enough? That's the way I look at it.
And if they keep adding to it over time, all the better.
By contrast, Infinity Ward/Treyarch keeps adding to Modern Warfare every year since 2007, except they call it a full new game instead of the expansion that it is. And its mostly multi-player focused with boring generic campaigns that haven't progressed in years. Destiny is on another level, and they're not going to milk you with a "new game" every year.
FPS MMO? A really really good one?
